Now, I'm sure that you're all wondering about Kyoka. Who is she? Why does she hate Lucy? What is she going to do with the blue rose? Is she as bad as the children claim she is?

Well, reader, you'll see soon what her true nature is. Her past is a long one, nevertheless, I will tell you.

Dear reader, take a trip with me to the outskirts of Fiore, to the port of Hargeon. Ships sail constantly here as Fiore does most of its trading via sea. The town is always busy with late-night shops and street food stalls selling local delicacies. But, we won't be stopping here today.

No, we will be traveling further into the deep blue sea. Around a hundred kilometers off the shore of Hargeon, there is nothing as far as the eye can see. But, that isn't true at all, for there lies a kingdom beneath the serene waves. A kingdom of beauty and kindness. It was special too, as mermaids and mermen lived here.

The mer-people lived in an intricate system, consisting of a king to a peasant. They ruled the sea - the entire underwater realm! They lived in complete peace and harmony in their little settlement. In our story, we are going to focus on two mermaids.

The first-born princess of this sea in this era is a young blonde girl named Kyoka. The second-born princess was named Irene. Sadly, the parents of these children were killed in a shark attack. Kyoka was raised by the treasurer of the kingdom, a mer-man named Mard Geer. He was a selfish, greedy, and cruel mer-man and taught Kyoka all of his bad habits too. He also taught her magic - which was normally used to protect and defend and showed her how to attack, steal and kill with it. It goes without saying, reader, how ruthless Kyoka turned out to be.

On the other hand, Irene was taught by the royal advisor, a kind-hearted merman named Belserion. Belserion taught her the mer-law, how to see the good in people, and politics, and how to be a great ruler. Irene was a fast learner, a dutiful student, and understanding of others. Belserion taught her magic too, but it was good magic, unlike that of Kyoka's. She grew up to be a strong-willed, brave young mermaid.

The people of the underwater realm preferred Irene over Kyoka. Irene was more compassionate towards others. She was also kind and strong. Not to mention her undeniable beauty. Irene was everything Kyoka was not. Kyoka despised Irene for that and pretended to be a nice, loving sister to her. Irene was completely oblivious to her sister's schemes and act like she loved Kyoka with her entire heart and soul. Belserion, however, knew of Kyoka's fake love and advised Irene against it. Irene refused to believe him.

And then, it happened.

Belserion was found dead. In the courtroom, a knife runs through his heart. His hands and legs were sprawled on the floor. Based on the bruises found on his hands and knees, mer-doctors were sure that there was combat before he passed away.

When Irene saw Belserion's dead body, she broke down into tears and dropped to her knees. She felt the sadness slice her heart and shatter it into millions of little pieces, never to be fixed again. Many tried consoling her without avail. There, she swore to find the murderer and changed her last name to Belserion in remembrance of her father-like figure.

Since Belserion passed away, someone had to take over his job. He had been taking care of the royal affairs after the late king and queen died. Now that he was dead, Mard Geer decided to be the next 'king'. He was overjoyed as he had been coveting the royal throne for some time. Unfortunately for him, the mer-people didn't want the cruel man to rule them. So, Kyoka was to be coronated as Queen as she was the oldest princess. Once again, the mer-people refused her as she was as ruthless as her teacher. They wanted Irene to be the Queen.

Though it made Kyoka boil with rage, she refused to show it. Instead, she congratulated her sister and even encouraged Irene to take the throne in her place. So Irene took the throne while Kyoka and Mard Geer looked at her with jealousy looming in their eyes.

Realizing she had no future in ruling the kingdom, Kyoka decided to form her own group. One that forced everyone in the underwater realm to bow down to her. She created a group - later called Tartaros - which would create panic among the peaceful towns and wreak havoc everywhere. She began to be known as the Goddess of the Slave Planet as she tortured people in horrendous ways.

Irene had had quite enough with Tartaros. She decided to go out and capture one of them herself. So, she readied herself with trustworthy members and went out late at night to catch one in action. And, she did. It was a young mermaid named Seilah who was no older than seventeen. Even though Irene asked several times, Seilah refused to give in and tell them the name of the leader.

After starving her for a few days, Seilah finally gave in and decided to tell the truth. Realizing her doom, Kyoka decided to kill Seilah in order to protect her secret identity. So, she crept into the room where Seilah was held and tied a strong rope around her small neck. As Seilah struggled for her breath, the lights turned on in the room. Kyoka slowly turned around, knowing that the people who turned the lights on would know who she is and why she was there.

Sure enough, Irene was there, tears running down her face. She had trusted her sister more than anyone, only to find out that she was the wretched Goddess of the Slave Planet. Her already shattered heart broke down until it was nothing more than dust. Kyoka, on the other hand, was also shocked. She hadn't expected Irene to be there expecting her. How had she known in the first place?

She turned her face back to Seilah. That wretched mermaid had blabbed! Kyoka was furious that, without thinking, she used her magic to cut off Seilah's head. Irene gasped. How could Kyoka use her magic to kill?! Irene was beyond angry. She growled and lunged for Kyoka, forcing her onto her knees and tying her hands behind her back.

"You will pay for all the crimes you have committed," Irene said nonchalantly.

So, according to the mer-law, Kyoka was banished from the underwater realm kingdom to the outside, where many sharks resided. She was an outcast to the kingdom, never to be visited.

But, she wasn't going to let this go.

Oh, no. If Kyoka couldn't get to rule the underwater realm, then she would aim for the land.
