{Prologue pt. 1 for "A whole new life"}
A year after the Rebel alliance and a band of rebels succeeded in stopping the Empire and destroying their super weapon, the death star, it was finally time to step away from the war, regardless of not knowing how long peace would reign.
Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor had fallen in love, got married, and settled down.
But, one day came that would completely change their lives, and for the better.
That day went something like this….
Jyn and Cassian were sitting in the cockpit of a U-wing starfighter, just after coming back from a simple pick up mission.
*Jyn looked over her shoulder*
"Well Jyn, what was it you wanted to tell me?" Cassian asked Jyn inquisitively.
"You know that "thing that happens every month..." She told him, "Yeah," he replied, "I do. What about it?" Jyn sighed, "I haven't had it yet, I should've. But I feel exactly like I do every time it comes around!" "I've been way hungrier than usual. And I've been waking up earlier because I don't feel good."
"So?" Cassian said with a shrug of his shoulders, then crossed his arms, "Maybe you're just late." Jyn thought for a moment, then Cassian chimed in again: "I wouldn't worry about it." "Maybe you're right Cass," she nodded in agreement.
"Well I would! Someone blurted, then came up behind them. It was K2-SO, Cassian's reprogrammed imperial droid;
"Based on Jyn's explanation, there is a 75.5 percent chance she is pregnant." Jyn's face turned bright red, and Cassian nearly choked on a drink of water. "K2!" They shouted in unison, "That was very uncalled for!" Cassian shouted, "You're a strategic analysis droid! Not a medical droid."
"Well, that was a strategic analysis!" the droid remarked.
While they were shouting, Jyn jumped out of the docked ship and ran off. Cassian turned around, seeing Jyn had disappeared, "Oh, great Job Kay, now I have to go find her." He then walked off in search of Jyn.
It took Cassian close to half an hour of searching and asking around before someone finally gave him a solid lead.
"I believe I saw her on the 5th floor." the pilot informed him, and pointed in the direction of the flight of stairs.
"Thank you!"
Looking up at the stairs, he thought to himself, This has to be it.
Once he reached the top of the stairs, he stopped, and looked around.
Where could she be?
Cassian proceeded to search the area. But then he spotted a familiar face. It was Sergeant Melshi, Cassian's most trusted friend.
"Hey, Melshi." Cassian called out, and approached him. "Oh, hey Cassian. What's going on?" Melshi replied.
"I need your help." Cassian told him. – "Of course. What do you need?"
"I need to know if you've seen Jyn. She ran off and I don't know where she went."
Melshi pondered this for a moment, "Hmm…. Aha! I did, about 10 minutes ago. She went out there," he pointed "along the edge of this floor."
"Thank you Melshi!" Cassian exclaimed, and briskly walked in the direction he was told.
He looked around the corner of the temple wall, and sure enough, there was Jyn. Sitting with her knees tucked up in front of her chest, her head resting on her knees, and a distant look in her eyes.
He slowly walked over, and sat down next to her. He gently grabbed her hand, letting her know he was there.
"Are you okay?" Was all he said.
Jyn wiped her eyes with her free hand, and sniffled — Then she turned her head to look at Cassian. "I… don't know."
Cassian smiled and squeezed her hand, "Well then, we'll figure it out. Together."
"Where would we even start?" She asked him in return.
"Somehow, I think the med bay might be a good place." "How about we talk to someone tomorrow morning? Get to the bottom of this."
"That sounds good. Thank you Cassian." She leaned into him, and just being there, the two of them, made her feel better.
That very next morning, they were making their way to the medbay on the fifth floor of the temple base. It wasn't a huge room, but it was fit enough for multiple beds, and the needed equipment.
But right outside the doorway, Jyn stopped. Outside she appeared fine, but on the inside, she didn't feel right. Was she really nervous?
"Jyn?" Cassian asked as he turned around to face her, "Why'd you stop?"
"I- I'm not sure about this." she nervously admitted.
"There is no reason to worry." he reassured her, "Whatever happens, we'll get through it. We always do."
She found comfort in his words, and this gave her a little extra courage. "Let's do this."
"That's my Stardust."
They stepped through the door, and walked up to the resident medic.
"What can I help you with?" the medic inquired.
Jyn took a deep breath and let it out, "I would like to have a test done."
"Certainly, but, I need you to be specific. What kind? Blood test?"
"A-" she paused, then continued, "A pregnancy test."
"Alright, can't be more specific than that. Let me grab that for you." He smiled and stepped away to retrieve what would be needed.
"Hey, relax." Cassian whispered, "You've got this."
Jyn blushed, "Thanks."
The medic came back, and handed Jyn the small bag of supplies. "Here you go. "The process is simple. All you have to do is go to the refresher, and the instructions are in the bag." "Oh, and when you're finished, leave it in the little basket. I'll retrieve it afterwards."
"Alright.'' She then walked off, did as she was instructed, finished, and came back.
"Take a seat and I should have the results in about 10 to 15 minutes." The medic collected the sample, and ran the test.
It didn't feel like it, but ten minutes passed, and during that time, Jyn's thoughts were all over the place. What if I am? What will we do? Am I even ready to be a mother?
Cassian sort of sensed her uneasiness. He slid over closer, and wrapped his one arm around her. He couldn't say much more than what he already said, but actions speak louder than words, as they say.
Then, the time had come. The medic walked back out and over to Jyn and Cassian. He kept a straight face, "Well. The test results are in. Are you two ready?''
The two of them looked at each other, and nodded, "Yes." They said in unison.
"Congratulations." he grinned, "You're pregnant."
The two of them gasped, both taken by surprise. Although Jyn's expression was like she had been hit by a stun blaster.
"Jyn? Jyn." Cassian repeated, trying to break the trance. He waved his hand in front of her face, this caused her to come to attention again. She shook her head and blinked, "I'm sorry."
"That's fine, it's big news. By the way, you're all good to go. We can talk more another time." explained the medic.
"Come on Jyn, let's go." Cassian told her. She grabbed his hand. And they left the medbay together.
After that, neither one really had a chance to sit down and talk about what had happened earlier that day. Both were busy with numerous tasks that came along with being part of a rebellion.
Jyn kept rather, to herself. Not that this was completely unusual, as Jyn had a habit of keeping people at arm's length. If someone asks what was wrong, she'd just brush them off, and tell them that it's no big deal. Even though it was.
