It started to rain as soon as the Hobbits and Lucy got to Bree. They look around hoping that no one is following them. They got to a gate, and they knocked on the door. An old man open the door and he look at the top one first and then the bottom one. He opens the door and looks at them, "Hobbits, four Hobbits and a Girl, what business brings you to Bree," he asked. Frodo looks at the old man, "We are heading for the Prancing Pony, our business is our own," he says. The old man nods, "Alright young sir, I meant no offense, it's my duty to ask questions to new folks, there are strange folks abroad, can't be too careful," he says as he let the Hobbits and Lucy in.
Lucy looks at the Hobbits as there was a bunch of huge men around, "Stay close to me, and don't lose sight of me. Everyone is bigger than you guys," she says. Frodo and the three Hobbits snugged on Lucy as they walk through the crowd. They look around and the four Hobbits are scared to see bigger people than them. They move pass a carriage and then they look around and they see a sign that says Prancing Pony. They head towards it and then they went inside.
They got inside and see a bunch of drunk men hanging around the tables. Frodo looks around and sees a Bartender who was looking around and sees the Hobbits, "Ah welcome to the Prancing Pony, where we kindly welcome young folks and gals like uh," he stutters as he was trying to figure out who everyone's name was. Frodo thought of something, "Underhill, my name is Underhill," he says. Sam looks at Frodo and then Lucy shouldered Sam. Frodo look at the Bartender, "We're looking for Gandalf the Grey, can you tell him we arrived," Frodo says. The Bartender got confused, "Gandalf...Gandalf, oh you mean old guy long beard and pointy hat...not seen him for 6 months," he says.
Everyone got shocked and then they look at each other. Lucy sighs, "But Gandalf said that he would meet us here," she says. Sam looks at everyone, "What do we do now," he asked. Frodo looks at the bartender, "Can we have a seat for 5 of us," he asked. The bartender nodded and guided to a table for 5.
They all sat down, and Sam keeps looking around. Merry came back with a Pint bottle and Pippin got shocked, "What is that?" he asked. Merry smiled, "This my friend is called a Pint," he says. Pippin smiled, "It comes in Pints, I'm getting one," he says. Sam tried to stop him, but it was too late already. Merry look at Lucy, "Are you not going to have a drink milady," he asked. She shakes her head, "I don't drink," she says. Merry got shocked and then he shrugs it off. He then looks at Lucy as he was drinking his Pint, "So do you like Frodo, it seems he was kind of jealous when I grabbed your hand," Merry asked her. Frodo overheard their conversation, "I am not jealous, you got to remember that I have no feelings for Lucy whatsoever," he says. Lucy looks at Merry and then she blushes, "I have no intentions of dating Frodo, I don't have feelings for him," she says. They both stayed quiet.
Sam was still looking at the front door hoping Gandalf would come in, "Don't worry Sam, he will be here," Frodo says. Sam sighs and then he looks at the man behind Lucy, "Ever since we been here, that man has been staring at you," Sam says to Frodo. Lucy turns around and notices him too and she looks at the bartender, "Who's that man sitting in the next corner," she asked. The bartender looks at the man and then to her, "He's one of them ranger folks out in the wild, dangerous folks out there. I don't know what his real name is but around here, he is known as Strider," he says as he left. Frodo look at Lucy and then he fiddles with the ring, "Strider," he whispered to himself. The ring whispers Baggins to him all over as the room got dim.
All of a sudden, Pippin yelled out, "Baggins, Frodo Baggins, he is right over there, he is my second cousin twice removed from his mother," he says. Frodo gasped has he got up from his chair and tries to get Pippin to stop. Lucy got scared, "What is he doing," she asked. Frodo shoves at Pippin, "Enough Pippin," he yelled. Pippin screamed and then Frodo slipped. The ring was thrown up to the air and as Frodo was about to grab the ring, it went to his fingers and then he disappeared. Everyone got shocked including Pippin and Merry as they didn't know what happened.
While Frodo is using the ring, he looked around and notices that there are people that are like shadows because they can't see him apparently. He looks around and then he sees the eye of Sauron. He stares at Frodo as he starts speaking, "You cannot hide, I see you. There is no life in the void. Only death," he says. Frodo gasped as he removes the ring. He looks around and everyone was questioning everything.
Strider grabs Frodo, "You have drawn too much attention to yourself Mr. Underhill," Strider says.
They went upstairs to a room where he stays. Strider pushes Frodo to the ground, "I cannot be seen whenever I choose to, but to disappear into thin air, that is a rare gift," Strider says. Frodo panted as he looked at Strider's eyes, "Who are you?" he asked. Strider came up to him, "Are you frightened?" he asked. Frodo nods.
Suddenly the doors open and Lucy, Sam, Merry, and Pippin stand up to Strider, "Let him go or I will handle you myself," Sam yelled. Lucy used her fist since she doesn't have her dagger. Strider sighed, and put his sword away, "You have a strong heart, don't you lose that my young Hobbit. There is more to meet the eye. Come we need to hide," he says. Frodo nods and they followed Strider to a different room.
Downstairs, the black riders come barging in when people were hiding under tables and behind places that they can hide, and they won't be able to find them. The black riders went upstairs to find a room of 5 beds. They all gather around and then they started raising their swords. They start stabbing at the bed multiple times. They keep doing that till they open the blankets, and it was a ruse. They all start screeching and flipping the beds over trying to find the Hobbits and the Girl.
Next door, Frodo woke up and look at Strider, "What are they," Frodo asked. Strider looks at Frodo and then the black riders, "They are the Nazgul, Wring Raiths neither living or dead. They all fell to the hands of Sauron. One by one they all fell into darkness. They used to be men, 9 great men until Sauron gave them the 9 rings," he says. Lucy got scared, "They are looking for Frodo aren't they," she asked. He nods, "They won't stop hunting till they find the ring for Sauron. Every time you use the ring, they get drawn to its power," he says. Frodo looks at everyone, "What must we do," he asked. Strider looks at everyone, "We go to the wild," he says.
