Maybe I should say something. But what? I don't think he would be happy with a random watch saying, "Sorry for your loss." And being downright bitchy isn't going to help anyone. Even I know that.
Ben, the boy, your wielder, is drying his tears, thinking about the future. You can't blame him one bit, considering the circumstances; you can't help but care about him.
Maybe I should start with something simple, like….
Now for the first time in… you don't know how long, you hear your voice echo through your sound systems. It sounds like you have a dry throat… not that you actually have one.
"Who are you?"
Whatever sadness was on Ben's face disappears and is replaced with confusion. "Hello?"
"Down here," you say.
Ben peers down to his wrist, blinks… and very calmly… with heroic courage… says….
"AHHHHHHHHH! THE WATCH IS TALKING!"
Well, ####. I should have stayed quiet.
Now he's running. And now he's shaking me. THAT'S the multiversal hero?
"By Contumelia's sake, kid!" you scream. "Stop flinging me around! You've become an alien before and yet are freaked out by a talking watch?! I mean, come on!"
After a minute, Ben finally stops shaking you around, primarily for taking another breath than anything else.
"Wait," Ben pauses. "You are really talking?"
You can feel the sweatdrop hanging on the back of your display.
"Are you deaf? How are you this dumb? You're worse than a monkey with a typewriter!" you reply.
"Shut up! You got me by surprise! And why are you talking? The other Omnitrixes didn't do that!" Ben says in irritation, clearly more caught up in the heat of the moment and surprise.
"Well, I'm not like other girls, or watches for that matter! And I asked first! You're the one who I got attached to!"
Ben tries to start talking, but the other man, you know as "Doc," approaches you two.
"Excuse me for this introduction, miss. Benjamin here was just startled by the sudden revelation of your presence. Let me explain to you…"
BOOM!
The Doc is interrupted by another loud sound. This one is close by.
"Well, damnation," the professor exclaims. "Looks like Vilgax's drones. They're probably looking for the missus."
"I know that already, Captain Obvious!" you mock. "We need to go!"
"You're rather feisty, you know that."
"You don't say."
The problem is… Ben doesn't want to go. He doesn't even attempt to run.
"Why aren't you running, you stupid user! We're going to die! Move your ###!" you explain.
I can't even say ###?!
Ben looks determined. "Vilgax was the one who did ALL of this. If not for him, the multiverse would still be intact. I won't run away from him ever again!"
Intending to fight back, Ben attempts to mess with your interface. It makes you very ticklish. "Wow, that's weird."
"STOP TOUCHING ME, YOU PERVERT! You're pushing my buttons, literally!"
"Sorry, Omnitrix."
"THAT'S NOT MY NAME! IT'S TRIXIE!
…
He doesn't stop.
"Why can you be as simple to use as the other Omnitrix?"
"Well, excuse me, Princess. Sorry, I'm not as user-friendly as a baby's first watch! Would you like a refund? Cause I sure would!"
"You talk too much."
Fortunately, you're not all alone.
The Doc places a hand on Ben's shoulder, pulling him behind the treeline. "This isn't the time for heroics, Benjamin. You must understand time is of the essence. We cannot risk letting either Omnitrix get into this Vilgax's hands."
You can feel Ben's anger, but he puts it aside with a huff. "You're right."
Convinced, the three of you leave before Vilgax's drone can find you.
After a few minutes, you find yourselves at a secluded campsite in the forest. Taking a seat on a rock, Ben seems… despondent. You decide it's best to get answers out of the Doc instead.
"So, again, what's going on?"
"You're going to need a brush up on quantum mechanics and string theory."
"Until a short time ago, there were many dimensions, universes, and earths. Thus, many Omnitrixs across those dimensions, which were not always in sync in time."
"Is that all?" you sarcastically comment. "Oh, I totally get what's going on now."
"I said the same thing," Benjamin notes before returning to his sulking.
"Think of time and space as this tree," Paradox continues. "Down here is the present day. Ben is ten years old and obtains an Omnitrix. Up here is the point in time the Ben you are attached to came from. And even further up is when most Ben Tennysons would become Ben Ten-Thousand. The trunk is the main timeline, with each branch being alternate ones that literally branched off to become a different timeline. And each contained its own Ben Tennyson and Omnitrix."
"Yeah, this isn't making any more sense than the first time," Ben perks up.
"It does to me," you say smugly. "Just get good."
"You're a supercomputer… I think. It doesn't count!"
The professor ignores your bickering. "The problem is that Vilgax used a Chronosapien time bomb to work his way through the branches and cut them off. Any timeline where Ben Tennyson's fate was intertwined with the Omnitrix has been erased."
"And the only timeline where our fates didn't intertwine was my own," Ben clarifies. "Or, I guess, our own."
"The timeline Azmuth installed a complex A.I. into the Omnitrix and the A.I., you, decided to avoid meeting Ben Tennyson."
"What happened to me, then?"
"You were likely never found," the professor casually revealed. "Not that it matters now."
"But why doesn't it matter?"
"Because you have been found. In fact, you're attached to Young Benjamin here, creating a paradox. One that destroyed Ben's original future. He's a paradox, just like me."
"There has to be something we can do! There has to be a way to reverse the time bomb and restore the multiverse," Ben claims, determined. "There just has to be."
"One step at a time, Benjamin. We must first reboot the multiverse."
"I thought you said that the multiverse was destroyed?" you question. "What do you mean by reboot?"
"We're at the start of the Ben Prime timeline from where all other Ben realities diverge."
"Oh," you realize. "So by a reboot, you mean to meddle with time until you create more branches where Ben gets the Omnitrix?"
"Precisely," Paradox clarifies.
"So we just need to ensure that the Ben in this era gets an Omnitrix?"
"Incorrect. The Ben you've attached yourself to could become the new Ben Prime."
"I don't follow."
"Technically, we've messed with the timestream enough that further meddling would allow us to make your wielder the basis for the new multiverse. Not that I recommend it."
Ben looks up. "That would mean giving the second Omnitrix, or rather, the original Ben Prime's Omnitrix, to someone else, right?"
Paradox nods. "Preferably, we'd give it to the 10-year-old Ben Tennyson, but it could go to any of the trio of Tennyson."
"Max and Gwen?" Ben clenches his fist. "What if I don't want to get them involved?"
Paradox narrows his eyes. "What do you mean, Benjamin?"
"What if I want to be Ben Prime?"
"And why would you possibly want that?"
"I don't want to hurt them. This is my problem, my responsibility. I helped destroy everything, so fixing things should be up to me."
"Every world needs an Omnitrix," Professor Paradox counters.
"Then I'll be the Omnitirix for this one. It's technically my past, anyway. The closest thing I have to my friends and family."
"This world already has the younger you. How do you expect to restore the timelines your antics have unintentionally jeopardized if you must be the hero for this world in its time of need?"
"I'll find a way," Ben says, determined.
"Uh, Ben?" you jump in. "Maybe you should listen to the good doc? What do you even plan to do with the second Omnitrix anyway?"
"That… is a good question," Ben realizes. "Could you uh… do something about it?"
"Do something about it?"
"Yeah?"
"Wow, Ben. How creative."
Though now that I think about it, I could probably force the Omnitrix's self-repair feature to absorb the other watch. I'm not exactly sure what the end result would be, but theoretically, it would be like taking the… non-prototype…. and upgrading it like a Galvanic Mechamorph.
Yep, I'm a genius!
"I still advise against this plan," Professor Paradox insists. "Ms. Trixie, I hope you can see the futility and danger in such a plan as Benjamin's. We just need to take one watch and give it to a Tennyson. It is as easy as that."
"Please, Trixie. I know we haven't gotten off the wrong foot, but please help me."
Both Ben and Dr. Who have fair points. This comes down to two questions: who do I want to appease more?
Paradox intends to hand the other Omnitrix to one of the three DNA signatures from earlier. I guess that means that two Omnitrix wielders would be around, so that's a thing, I think.
Alternatively, I could follow Ben's intent to keep his younger self and family out of this mess with the Omnitrix. I could only do that by absorbing the finished Omnitrix and combining it with myself, and who knows what effect that could have on its systems.
