Mission Creek High (Day)
"Statistics show that if we don't panic, at least 70% of us will make it out alive." a teenage boy with brown hair and a blue shirt said to the screaming crowd, trying to calm them down. Suffice to say, it didn't work. They ended up trampling him as they ran out of the building.
As he rubbed his forehead in pain, he looked up to see a new face. The newcomer was an orange-haired teen around his age, wearing a white shirt and jeans. Around their neck was a circular gray necklace with a blue gemstone inside. Behind their clear glasses were orange eyes. "In hindsight, maybe you shouldn't have told them that 20% percent of them were going to die." they said, holding out his hand for the boy to take.
After taking the ginger's hand and standing up, the boy responded. "Uh, I'm new?"
"Well then, I'll need to make sure you don't cause any more riots." they said, grinning. "Name's Chris."
"I'm Chase." the boy said.
"Chase!" a girl a few meters away yelled. Chase turned to see his sister waving to him.
"Uh, nice meeting you." the boy said as he started walking away.
"Same. See you around, Rioter." Chris said, tipping an imaginary hat. This stopped Chase in his tracks.
"You want to talk to me again?" he asked, legitimately confused.
"Anyone who sets fire to a school, even accidentally, is someone I want to get to know." the ginger explained.
"Chase!" the girl repeated, this time joined by two boys. One radiating with pure muscular energy, and the other weighing less than a dog bone.
"I gotta go." Chase said, rushing to join his family. Just as he got back to the group, two very pissed people came through the gym doors.
Anyone not living under a rock would be able to recognize Donald Davenport, tech mogul and multi-millionaire. "So, how was school!?" he said loudly, planting dread into each of the children that lived under his roof. "GET IN THE HELICOPTER!" he yelled, prompting the kids to follow the man out of the room.
Once they were the only one left in the gym, Chris turned their attention to the dingo head that had inexplicably caught fire. It didn't take long for them to notice the two pinpricks of singed fabric in the mascot's forehead. 'I knew it. He shot fire out of his eyes.' the ginger concluded. They turned to the lone security camera in the room. After a minute of focusing on it, they crushed the dingo head under their foot.
When the camera turned back on, there was nobody in the gym.
Davenport Household (Night)
"Welcome to Casa del Leo!" Leo said as he opened the door, allowing Chris and a slew of other people into the house. Chris wasn't a fan of parties, as they were always hounded by people who wanted them to do their schoolwork for them. However, maybe this time would be different.
"Chase! Looks like it took less than a day for you to cause trouble again." they said to their new friend.
"To be fair, this was NOT my idea." Chase said.
"Hehe. Sure it wasn't." the ginger said with a smug face. Noticing Chase's siblings, they took the chance to introduce themself. "Pleasure to meet you all. I'm Chris." They held their hand out to Bree, who excitedly took it into her own and shook it frantically.
"Hi! My name's Bree. I'm Chase's sister. Over there is our brother, Adam." Bree said, gesturing to her older brother.
"Hi, I'm Adam!" the boy said, shaking Chris' hand in a bone breaking grip.
"Nice to meet you. Can I have my hand back now?" the ginger asked.
"Sorry." the boy said, ashamed.
"Don't feel bad. At least you let go." Chris said, flexing their hand. "So, did you just move to Mission Creek? I haven't seen you around town."
The three siblings seem nervous, unable to give an answer. "Yes, they did." Leo said after a minute.
"No we didn't." Adam said, ignoring the murderous looks his siblings were giving him. "We've lived here our whole lives."
"Really? What school did you go to?" Chris asked, curious.
"We didn't. Today was our first class." Adam said before being elbowed by Bree. "What was that for?"
"What a coincidence. I was homeschooled for a while too." Chris said, giving the siblings an out.
"Yes. They were homeschooled." Leo said, relieved.
'Wow. That was a pathetic attempt at a lie.' the ginger thought to themself. "Do you know where the drinks are?"
"They're by the counter." Leo said. While Chris was away, the boy turned around to glare at Chase. "How could you bring them here and not tell me!?" he said, confusing his adoptive brother.
"What's the big deal?" Adam asked.
"Chris Machina NEVER comes to parties. They're the cool loner of the school. The fact that Chase brought them here is amazing! My street cred is going to go through the roof!" Leo said, jumping in excitement.
"Wait, if they never come to parties, why is Chris coming here so good?" Bree asked.
"Because they're the smartest kid in school." Leo said. "They always get a perfect score on their quizzes, and nobody messes with them. One time, this guy was being harassed by one of his upperclassmen. The next day, she came to school bald! It's just an urban myth, but most people think Chris was responsible." Turning his head, the boy's eyes widened. "Get your head out of there! It's a microwave!" he yelled, rushing off-screen.
"Ah, refreshing." Chris said as they came back to the group. "So, how's it feel to be at the top of the social food chain?"
"Awesome! I can't believe how many people came!" Adam said, reaching to grab a slice of cake.
"Careful, there buddy. That piece of cake has approximately 47 grams of sugar." Chase told his brother. "If you eat it, you'll be bouncing off the walls for hours."
"How do you know that?" Adam asked.
"BECAUSE I JUST HAD 12 PIECES!" Chase yelled, grabbing a large piece of cake before slamming it into his mouth. "WOO!"
"WHAT THE-"(HONK)
Everyone in the room turned to the front door, where Mr. Davenport and his wife were standing. The honking noise came from Leo, who was driving a golf cart while wearing a samurai helmet.
"Hey, you're back." Leo said, terrified. "How did these people get here?" he asked, feigning ignorance.
'Two awful lies in one night. That has to be a record.' Chris thought to themself.
"You are in big trouble, mister." Leo's mother said.
"Hey, everybody. Thanks for coming. GET OUT!" Mr. Davenport yelled, prompting everyone who didn't share his name to vacate the premises.
Machina Household (Night)
"Bionics? Well, that certainly explains a lot." Chris said as they stared at their computer screen. While it was obscured by the glare coming from the monitor reflecting off their glasses, one could've seen their eyes glowing in the dim light.
