Chapter 4
.
Sgt Joe Friday woke up in a hospital bed. He couldn't remember exactly what happened. He knew that he and his temporary partner, Kevin Sorbo, were investigating a lead on a homicide. The suspect seemed high on narcotics, it wasn't a drug that Friday was familiar with. Whatever it was, it did seem to give him great temporary strength. Friday must have lost conscioussness, and possibly hallucinated parts of it, because he had some vague memories of the suspect having almost superhuman strength. Officer Sorbo came to visit Sgt Friday at the hospital.
.
Friday: The doctor says I'll be fine.
Sorbo: That's a relief.
Friday: What exactly happenned after, he threw me against the wall?
Sorbo: I tried reasoning with the suspect, but he wasn't thinking rationally. He must have been high on PCP, or some variant of it.
Friday: Is that what it was?
Sorbo: Probably, I've heard it gives people temporary strength. But I'll let the lab tell us exactly what was in his system.
Friday: How'd you beat him anyway?
Sorbo: I guess throwing you against the wall took a lot out of him, and I like to think I keep in shape.
Friday: I know you have muscles, I could swear I saw the fight, it looked like you both had super human strength.
Sorbo: You must have dreamed while you were asleep. It was a brutal fight, but I didn't see any alternative. If IA feels the need to punish me, I'll accept their decison.
Friday: I'll testify that he was physically strong, and not thinking rationally.
Sorbo: Thank you, for saving me.
.
"Kevin Sorbo" returned to his apartment. By today's standards it wasn't much, a few pieces of furniture, food in the refrigerator, some books, a television set. But he had gotten by with far less. He was shocked that he had a guest, Aphrodite.
.
Aphrodite: Hey little brother.
Sorbo: Aphrodite, did you escape from jail?
Aphrodite: No, there's this thing called bail...
Sorbo: Fair enough, but they do expect you to return for your court date.
Aphrodite: Herc, do you really expect me to go to prison?
Sorbo: Why are you here?
Aphrodite: I miss you, and don't you miss me?
Sorbo: Yeah, I did miss you. I love you more than I can stand most of our family.
Aphrodite: Fair enough. I do hang with Ares sometimes. There isn't that many of us left from the old days. You, me, Ares, that's pretty much it.
Sorbo: I admit, I do miss Iaolus, Jason, Xena, Gabrielle, mom, even dad. I don't know how long I can stay in this identity, but for now, let me make you some dinner.
Aphrodite: I'd like that.
