Rei: "I just refuse to accept him as Miri's grandfather."
Chapter 1
Don't slouch. Show her you can lift your first backpack. This was Miri. They knew each other. They were friends.
But this was the beginning of a new school year. A fresh start. To show her you growed up. To show her you aren't a baby spilling your water on yourself no more!
The shirt Mama picked at the store would make a strong new impression. It had the Loch Ness Monster on it!
Monsters are super cool!
Monsters are strong!
I won't lose to her two papas! Taiga stood up extra straight, the heavy pack nevertheless oppressing his shoulders.
Oppressing him…like they would. Miri's papas.
He could just picture Kazuki's snide face and Rei's silent aggression, but held on to his randoseru extra tight as he arrived at the school gate, eyes unblinking and eyebrows slanted down with purpose.
Taiga found Miri where he expected to find her. Unfortunately, it wasn't Hinata and Kotori with her. It was them.
Miri's spinning around, still admiring her first backpack (a present from Grandpapa!), its bright orange the reverse of Taiga's dark brown one.
He feels Miri's papas' stares on him.
Mad at him.
Mean to him.
The confidence he'd built up melts out the bottom of his shoes.
The monster is now a mouse.
"TAI-GA-KUN?" Miri stands on her tippy toes, and Taiga feels smaller.
Kazuki overreacts, enraged by where he believes the brat's discouraged gaze has settled.
Doubly confused, Miri goes upsies in Papa Kazu's arms.
Course, Rei could see a revenge kill coming and Kazuki didn't.
Taiga got sour-cheeked. Lightning was about to strike.
You don't count a Morio Kart racer out of the race just because he's behind. You're only one attack item from a turnaround!
