A/N Something that came to mind. If you don't like this, then don't read it.
The bell over the shop door jingled as someone came into the shop, then the soft snick as it closed behind him or her.
Severus took one last sip of his tea, before setting it on the coffee table, and rising from his armchair. Descending the stairs that led down to his shop, Severus rounded the corner to see Ginny Weasley standing nearest the counter, her hazel eyes boring into his.
"How can I help you Miss Weasley?" Severus intoned, in no mood to bandy words with the redhead
"You can tell me why you've left Harry?" she glowered "He's an absolute mess"
"Ask him why" Severus replied acerbically "Good day Miss Weasley" he turned away from the woman intending to go back up to his flat, but being who she was, was having none of it.
Ginny blocked his path fixing him with a murderous stare. "He wasn't in much of a state to tell me anything" she snapped "which is why I am here"
"I would've thought that news of the end of mine and Harry's relationship would indeed be music to your ears" Severus said venomously, wanting nothing more in that moment than to send the chit scampering from his shop. "Now would be the perfect time to stake your claim"
"Don't be a prig" Ginny hissed, "this isn't about me and you know it"
"Then what's it about, if you have a point to make, then please make it. I am a busy man" Severus retorted
"It's about your relationship with Harry" Ginny said hotly
"I don't have a relationship with Potter, that farce is over" Severus spat
"Farce?" Ginny said incredulously "please, anyone with a functioning pair of eyes could see how in love the pair of you were"
"That's rich coming from the woman who's been obsessed with Potter for more years than I'm sure even you'll admit to"
Ginny adjusted her stance and crossed her arms. "You're right, I've loved Harry since I was eleven years old and was determined to make him mine. For a while there I actually thought it might happen. I thought he would return my feelings and one day we'd be married"
"As illuminating as this is I fail to see the relevance" Severus drawled
"No matter how badly I wanted it to happen and no matter how hard I tried, I was only ever going to be just another Weasley, someone that Harry considered to be family. He saw me as a sister rather than a lover or a wife. I did think with time he would come around, but then I saw the way he looked at you, how his face lit up whenever you were in the room. I knew then his heart belonged to you not me. He loved you. It took a long time, but I came to accept that's how it was going to be and I was lucky to have his friendship"
"None of that matters, its over" Severus said blandly
"I don't understand" Ginny said, bewildered "It was clear how much you cared for Harry, how much you loved him. I know that Harry was utterly devoted to you"
"Devoted!" Severus hissed "What a joke! He was so devoted that he felt this inane urge to go out and screw someone else!"
"Harry, screw someone else?" Ginny gaped "you're bloody mad if you think he would even consider cheating on you"
"Consider it he did" Severus remarked "and before you tell me that he wouldn't do such a thing, I saw it with my own eyes. He had been acting strangely for over a month. He was distant, coming home late, barely speaking unless he absolutely had to. So two nights ago I followed him. He had sent me a note saying he was working back late and wouldn't be home for dinner. I went to the Ministry and followed him to DIagon Alley, where I saw him having a very cozy chat with Draco Malfoy in a bar, couldn't keep their hands off each other, the sight was sickening"
"Harry wouldn't touch Malfoy if his life depended on it" Ginny scoffed
"Did you ask him about it?" Ginny questioned
"Indeed, and his silence was all the proof I needed" Severus returned
"You realise the only reason Malfoy would go near Harry is so he can gain some of social standing back" Ginny pointed out "being seen with the Saviour would do wonders for his reputation. I can also guarantee that Harry would have seen right through the pathetic ruse and told Malfoy where to go"
"It all added up" Severus raged "I WILL NOT BE MADE A FOOL OF!" he slammed his hand down on the counter, the small vials upon it falling to the floor from the force
"YOU PIGHEADED BASTARD" Ginny shouted "That is not the reason Harry was being distant and not speaking"
"THEN WHAT WAS?" Severus roared
"HE'S PREGNANT" Ginny bellowed back, instantly regretting the slip of the tongue Harry was going to hex her into the middle of next year for this!
"He's what?" Severus stuttered, grabbing onto the side of the counter
"He's pregnant" Ginny repeated "with your child, incase you're wondering"
"B-but h-how?" Severus stammered
"In the usual way I'd imagine" Ginny smirked "but then knowing the both of you I would hazard a guess and say it was a miracle of sorts. From what I've heard male pregnancies are incredibly rare"
"Almost unheard of" Severus said hoarsely
"You and Harry are unique" Ginny said lightly
"Why… didn't he tell me?"
"He didn't know how," Ginny told him "he was worried that you wouldn't want the baby, that you wouldn't want to raise a family with him. He knew how much you hated teaching and thought it would be the same when it came to having children of your own"
Severus moved behind the counter and sat down heavily on the seat there. He scrubbed his hands over his face, trying to process everything he'd just be told. He was going to be a father, have a family with Harry, something he had only ever dreamed of. And as he didn't expect to survive the war, one that would never come to fruition. It was unfathomable.
"Are you ok?" Ginny asked gently "If it makes you feel any better, Harry's going to hex me six ways to Sunday for blurting that out"
"I always dreamed of what it would be like to have a family," Severus said in response to her question "never dared hope it would come true"
"It has now love" Ginny said, giving him a warm smile
"I don't understand why he was afraid to tell me" Severus pondered "did he have that little faith in me?"
"No" Ginny said firmly "it's the fault of those despicable muggles that he lived with. Harry learnt from a very young age that nothing good would ever come his way, and if it did he certainly wasn't worthy of it. He was considered to be abnormal and a freak. Having Dumbledore use him, as a weapon to fight a war didn't help either. It's in his nature to be cautious and worry about things"
Severus could only nod words failed him. Ginny's words resonated with a familiar pang. His upbringing hadn't been much better than Harry's. He really couldn't blame the man for thinking the things he had about Severus' reaction to finding out he was to be a father. He admonished himself for being foolish and letting his pride cloud his judgment. Had he only taken the time to really consider Harry's actions that were out of character and talked to the man, instead of jumping to conclusions, he could have saved them both a lot of grief.
"I must go and see him at once" he said decisively, standing from his place behind the counter.
"Good idea" Ginny agreed
"Thank you" Severus said sincerely, kissing her cheek as he walked past
"You're welcome, now go and get your man back"
Harry was curled up on the window seat, staring out into the back garden, when Severus came into the sitting room. He heard the footsteps, but didn't turn around or acknowledge them. For a moment he thought it was Ginny or Ron coming to check up on him, then a familiar scent wafted in his direction and his muscles stiffened.
"The rest of your things are in the library," Harry said curtly
"I'm not here for them," Severus said quietly
"Then why are you here?" Harry asked, "Have you come to accuse me of screwing someone else?"
"No" Severus said quickly "I'm here because I'm a fool who let his pride get the better of him and I want to apologise"
"Its too late for that" Harry replied, wiping an errant tear from his eye
"Please Harry" Severus implored "I truly am sorry for rushing to judgment, I want to make it right"
The scathing retort died on Harry's tongue as he realised that his actions were probably the reason Severus had become suspicious in the first place. If he'd have just come clean and told the man he was pregnant, then maybe none of this would have happened.
"I'm sorry too," Harry said
"What do you have to be sorry for?" Severus asked
"If I hadn't been distant and moody, then you wouldn't have jumped to conclusions and thought I was out screwing Malfoy"
"You had good reason to be that way," Severus admitted
The penny dropped and Harry's head snapped round to face the dark pools of his lover. He had missed them so much his chest clenched when he looked into them. "Ginny?" he asked
Severus nodded "she came into the shop and told me what a fool I've been"
"I bet she called you more than that?" Harry smirked
"Quite a lot more" Severus replied
Harry moved off the window seat and into Severus' arms. He relished in the warmth of being close to the man, the scent that was so uniquely Severus. Strong arms wrapped themselves around him and Harry nuzzled further into his chest. Tears spilled and before long there was a damp patch on Severus' robes. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you" Harry whispered
"I understand why you didn't" Severus answered "After all I've never given you cause to think I would ever want a family"
"Do you?" Harry asked, "Want a family that is?"
"Very much so" Severus stated truthfully "especially if it's with you"
Harry gave him a watery smile. He had been terrified that Severus would take the news of him being pregnant badly and want nothing to do with him or the baby. It was a huge relief to know that he did indeed share in Harry's joy of becoming a parent.
"You know I never did anything with Malfoy don't you?" Harry asked
"Ginny explained his motives"
"Slimy git thought I'd be open to being seen with him" Harry said disgustedly "I should have told you straight off, not kept it a secret. Even though you followed me"
Severus gave him a quizzical look.
"I know your magic intimately Severus, I could sense you the moment I left the Ministry"
The older man had the good grace to blush and give Harry a sheepish look. "It was wrong of me"
"Doesn't matter anymore, it's in the past" Harry said firmly "we have the future to look forward to"
"Indeed we do" Severus smiled "Will you permit me to come home?"
Just as he spoke, a bag and a box landed materialised in the middle of the sitting room.
"Looks like I don't have a choice" Harry chuckled and led them upstairs.
