74 days since arrival…

Ship life is incredibly busy.

They didn't use as much magic as I expected. They still steer the ships by hand. Sailors still has to go and physically deal with the riggings, the wind, the sails, and all the other things a ship needed to continue sailing. Most of the time I was discouraged from asking these people what they doing, but they have no qualms for me watching them work.

If there's one thing these people are busy with, its rope. Thick ropes, thin ropes, spinning old ropes into thicker ropes with the help of a spurn-yarn winch, adjusting the rope rigging every time the ship moved to another location, repairing some worn ropes, anything that can be done with rope, they will do it. Then again, these ropes are essential for the ship's mobility, like how mechanical gears are responsible for moving the needles of a grandfather's clock.

These sailors got a real nose on them for directions. All I see around me is just water and clear sky, and there they are reading the horizon like it was a fucking book. The captain sometimes gets up onboard, periodically checking both the sailors and the wind for its direction. Most of the time he was inside, probably discussing with his officer about his daily itinerary.

Anybody who isn't dealing with riggings are put at work cleaning the ship, down to its tiny specks. I was honestly surprised at how obsessive these people are at cleaning. I saw one dude clean a cannon to a mirror polish, then do it again until I swear to God it fucking sparkled like stars. Usually, you need officers to tell these people to do this shit.

The only time I saw them not working is during breakfast, lunch, dinner and sleeping. Even then, they were separated by shift. Night shift and morning shift. They were noisy at night, but I have learned how to sleep even when cannons roar.

Again, nothing special of note to say. Maybe I go and have a chat with the captain, see if there's something fun to do here.
