Elena walked into the kitchen the next morning, wearing her silky green pajamas underneath a fuzzy robe. She was surprised to find Stefan cooking breakfast. She almost forgot that he was here. She closed her robe and folded her arms. The entire room smelled like bacon. He smiled when he saw her.
"Good morning. Are you hungry?" He asked her, taking the toast out of the oven.
"Uh yeah kinda." She said, surprised but uneasy. This was all new to her.
"I made your favorite." Stefan grinned.
"Bacon and eggs?" Elena smiled a bit, sitting down at the kitchen bar.
"Yup." He poured the eggs onto the plate and added the bacon before serving her.
"Thanks." She said awkwardly.
Stefan grabbed his food and sat down next to her. "Do you have plans for today?" He wondered, taking a bite of his food.
"No." Elena said, pushing her food with her fork. The awkwardness was making her lose her appetite.
"I talked to your publicist." Stefan said casually.
"What?" Elena was surprised.
"She called me. They want you to figure out what to tell the press about your memory loss." He noticed Elena wasn't eating. "Are you going to eat?" Stefan asked.
"Why did she call you?" Elena asked, ignoring him.
"They don't want to upset you. I usually deal with the press stuff anyway. You don't like that side of the job." He explained, taking another bite of his food.
"I'm not ready to tell the press anything Stefan!" Elena said angrily. "This has been hard enough to deal with and I don't need the opinion of others to make it worse." She ran her fingers through her hair.
"I get it but the press is going to get bad if you don't say something soon." He encouraged her.
"I don't need this pressure from you. I'm dealing with it the best that I can. It's not like I have a guide for any of this. I will figure it out and you can tell them if they don't like it they can kiss my ass." She threw her fork down and left the room.
Elena went back upstairs into her room. She cried and cried for hours. This whole time she's kept it together pretty well but living with a stranger she's supposed to love was pushing her to her limits and she felt guilty for not feeling anything.
A few hours passed and she felt so bad for the way she spoke to Stefan when he was being so nice to her. She figured she was taking the anger she had about all of this on him. She decided to stop holding him, not visiting her over him and to start over. She went to his bedroom and knocked on the door.
"Stefan?" She said as the door opened.
"Hey." He whispered. "Are you still pissed?" Stefan asked.
"No. I'm sorry for the way I acted." She apologized.
"No, I'm the one who should be apologizing." He stated. "I tried so hard to fix this that I didn't stop and think about how you must be feeling." Stefan sighed.
"Thank you for realizing that. This is hard for me but I didn't think about how hard it must be for you to be in the same house with the girl you loved and she doesn't know who you are. Stefan I promise that I will try to focus on the future with us and not the past but will you do that with me?" She extended her hand out to him.
Stefan smiled and took her hand. "I would love to do that."
"Then we have a deal." She felt relieved.
Elena's POV
I sat in my living room feeling super nervous. It had been a few days and I finally was meeting with my manager. This was scary for me. I didn't know what I wanted but I had to figure it out. I didn't want to keep living in the unknown. I stood up and walked around the room. I didn't want to wrinkle my pretty purple dress. I spent two hours getting ready this morning. I tried on about five different dresses, trying to find one that made me feel like myself. It was silly to think that I would think maybe a dress could fix my problems. I picked the purple one because it looked like a nice mix between casual and professional. This meeting was important and I didn't want to mess anything up.
"It'll be fine." Stefan encouraged me. I could tell he thought I was overreacting.
"I don't know what to say to these people." I panicked, pacing across the room.
"They're on your side Elena." Stefan claimed, sitting in the chair with his arms crossed.
"My side? Are these people supposed to be on the side of money?" I asked.
"Well yeah but they want you to succeed so they can." He reassured me.
"That doesn't make me feel better at all." I stated.
The doorbell rang and Stefan got up to answer it. I put on a fake smile and went to greet the stranger that was handling my whole life.
"Elena! It's so good to see you babe!" The older woman with brown hair and a kind smile, greeted me with a hug.
I felt so uncomfortable but I let her hug me. All this physical contact with strangers has been really difficult to do. She let go and I looked over at Stefan. He didn't pick up my single for help. I didn't know what to say.
"Let's go into the living room." Stefan suggested.
"What is your name again?" I asked her, anxiously as we walked into the living room.
"Oh I'm sorry. I'm Aleen." She smiled, sitting down across from Stefan and I. "The first thing we need to go over is your statement."
"I've thought a lot about it and I wanted to see if there's any way we can keep this memory loss out of the press." I wondered.
"Why would you want to do that? I think you'd get a lot of positive press if you were to tell your story." She encouraged the truth from me.
"I don't want the press. I don't know who I was before this but I need to find out who I am on my own and not at the hands of other people or the whole world." I explained my feelings.
"I understand this completely." She nodded.
"Thank you for that." I felt validated.
"If we are keeping this from the public we will have to draft up some NDA's." She explained.
"Okay so who has to know?" I asked.
"The rest of the management team. It will only be my partners. The show runners on Mystic Falls already were told." She mentioned.
"The cast members." Stefan said.
"Which ones?" Aleen asked, writing down the names.
"Damon, Caroline, Bonnie but they could've told other people." He explained.
My thoughts trailed off when he mentioned Damon's name. I was still curious about the text and wondered why he knew about the accident but didn't reach out. I was sure we probably weren't close enough for that but he was my boyfriend's brother and co-star. Why was he sorry?
"Elena?" Aleen noticed I wasn't listening anymore.
I snapped back into it.
"So what is my statement going to be if it's not telling the public the truth?" I asked her.
"You can release a statement on instagram that you're recovering well. I will contact your publicist to type something up and you can look at it." She looked at her phone.
"Okay." I took a minute to understand all of it.
"Do you feel well enough to return to the set?" She asked me.
"I don't know if I'll ever be ready for that." I admitted, scared.
"You don't have to be ready. You're great." Stefan was confident.
"Filming starts in a few weeks. They can delay it if you need them too but the public might catch on that there's something else going on here. I would advise you to take the next two weeks and binge watch the show." She pulled out two DVD packs from her bag. "This is the first two seasons of Mystic Falls and it'll be the best way for you to study up and prepare for going back to work." Aleen smiled sweetly.
I grabbed the DVDs and took a deep breath. "I'll go back to work." I sat there and watched as Stefan and Aleen celebrated with laughter and hugging.
