The list of firsts Regulus shared with James was quite long.
His first kiss, that wonderful kiss on Christmas, it had taken his breath away. It wasn't James' first kiss, but neither of them cared, they told that story every time someone asked how they started dating, it was Regulus' favourite.
His first time, it hadn't happened until they were back at Hogwarts, again, it wasn't James' first, but Regulus was glad he could share this part of himself with his soulmate. They'd been in James' bed, and they'd just finished, both of them soaking the sight of the other in until Sirius pulled the curtains open and screamed, Regulus' neck was covered in red and purple marks. They continued down his chest and stomach, Regulus knew they went further still, but James' blanket thankfully covered him. Sirius had let out a truly impressive scream and ran to Remus, who was laughing, they hadn't done anything in James' dorm since.
His first date, it was on Valentine's day, a cliche, but Regulus hadn't expected anything less from James, they'd ended up on an accidental double date with Dorcas and Mckinnon, who was Dorcas' soulmate. Regulus laughed when he found out, and Dorcas threatened to hide a spider in his bed if he told anyone, Mckinnon giving a similar threat to James. The date was nice, Dorcas and James translating what Regulus wanted to say to Mckinnon, Regulus had smiled the whole walk back to the castle, where they found Evan and Barty snogging in a small alcove. Regulus had smiled at James and held a finger up to his lips, telling him to be quiet, and then walked over and tapped Evan on the shoulder, they sprung apart, Evan whipping out his wand, but they sighed when they saw who it was,
"So, how long has this been happening?" James asked the pair,
"A few months? We've been flirting for a while but we only kissed over the summer." Barty answered, his face was dusted with pink, but Evan was bright red, he'd never been caught sneaking around with anyone before.
His first time hearing 'I love you.'James had jokingly said it quite a few times, but he never fully said it, he never said 'I Love You' not until that day. It had taken Regulus by surprise when it happened, they were walking in the halls, James laughing at a joke, Regulus couldn't even remember what it was, but he did remember what James said next,
"Regulus, I love you, I truly do, but do you really not know them?" James was smiling brightly, and Regulus froze, he'd heard his brother say he loved him loads of times, but this was different, it wasn't his brother saying it to annoy or comfort him, it was James, beautiful, funny, his soulmate, James, saying it so casually it was like he'd been saying it for months, "Regulus? Hey, Regulus, you okay?" James asked, holding his shoulders and looking over his face, Regulus mouthed back, 'I love you too.' and James paused, his face splitting into a grin and hauling Regulus into a kiss.
His first house, after James had graduated, he'd started Auror training, they constantly wrote, and James visited every time he had the chance, but Regulus' seventh year was one of his hardest, and he was glad to graduate. He'd been surprised on Kings Cross, his brother, Dorcas and James were all there, Regulus immediately ran into James' arms, kissing him excitedly, and he heard Evan, Barty and Pandora all run to hug Dorcas,
"What, I don't get any hugs?" Sirius complained, Regulus shook his head and James laughed. They all went their separate ways, even Sirius, who had bought a flat halfway through the year to live with Remus, it left just James and Regulus alone,
"I've got a surprise for you." James had said and pulled Regulus into side-along apparition. Once Regulus regained his balance, he looked up, they were standing on the front lawn of a house, Regulus spun around, confused, he saw a street sign that said 'Godrics Hollow' but he was still confused, he turned to James, pulling his wand out and drawing a question mark in the air, it'd taken him a while to learn that spell, but he was glad he did,
"Regulus, this is our new house." James smiled at him, pulling Regulus towards the door, Regulus' mouth dropped open, and once he was inside he attacked James with kisses again. "So, I guess you like it?" Regulus nodded, and then took off to explore the house.
Once he found two rooms, one that had been clearly lived in and one completely bare, he sent down a spark to show James where he was, James came up after a moment, and Regulus wrote his question in the air,
'Why are there two rooms?' James' smile turned anxious,
"Well, I was kind of hoping, and you can totally say no, but I was hoping, we could maybe have kids? I don't really care how many, but I've always wanted to be a father." James started picking at his nails, Regulus couldn't think for a moment, before a grin broke out onto his face and he nodded excitedly, pulling James in for yet another kiss.
His first wedding, it had been his second favourite first he'd ever shared with James, their wedding day, it was a gorgeous day, Regulus had almost cried as he was walked up the aisle by Fleamont, his now father-in-law, and he had cried while they exchanged vows, he'd had his written down, and they used the same spell as howlers to make it speak for him, their friends were all there, a few were engaged as well, but they were the first to get married, Regulus would've thought it would have been Sirius and Remus, but thanks to some unjust laws they were left staying engaged.
His first child, this was his favourite first, their little boy, Harry Potter-Black, he had James' hair, and his skin tone, and his smile, but his eyes and his wit were all Regulus.
They raised him alongside their friends' children, Lily and Mary's little girl Thalia, and Evan and Barty's baby boy Lucas, Dorcas and Marlene had both decided against kids, and Severus was thinking about adopting but was quite happy living alone, Peter had started adopting pets almost as soon as he was out of school, Sirius and Remus both expressed wanting children, but didn't want to take the risk of having a werewolf baby, and the laws restricted them from adopting. They were happy in their tight-knit family, and then, Narcissa showed up, a boy Harry's age following close behind her, she'd told them about what's been happening on the Death Eater side, the Dark Lord had gone into hiding ever since his Horcruxes were found and destroyed, and she told them she didn't want her son to be raised around all those people, thinking they were what people were supposed to be like, they gladly took Narcissa and baby Draco into the family, Harry and Draco quickly bonding over their shared love of quidditch,
"If they end up on opposite teams their matches will be legendary." James had said one day, the boys were nine now, two years until they went to Hogwarts, and they'd started flying on practice brooms, they were both fast, and despite him needing glasses, Harry could spot a snitch from across their property, Draco was just as good a seeker, but he always asked to be a chaser. The boys were very alike, and by now half the wizarding world knew Draco Malfoy and his cousin Harry Potter-Black were the best of friends, after the Dark Lord had been killed everyone was far quieter with their Blood supremacy.
His first time back at Kings Cross as a parent, he watched as his son and nephew spoke excitedly about joining the quidditch team, they were convinced they'd end up in the same house, and no one could argue with them, Thalia and Lucas following behind them and rolling their eyes, all the parents waved goodbye to their children, and went back to their homes, awaiting the first letter from their children.
"Regulus, love, Harry's letter just came!" James woke him up the next morning, holding the letter in his hand, Regulus sat up and James began reading it to him.
"Dear dads, I told you Draco and I would be in the same house! We're both in Slytherin! Classes haven't started yet, but when Professor McGonagall saw me she said something about you. Thalia went to Ravenclaw, and Lucas is in Gryffindor! Uncle Severus is our Head of House, he said he was really happy we were in his house, the headmaster seems a little weird though, I'm not sure I like him. I've made loads of friends here! Though Ron and Hermione both seemed angry I was put into Slytherin, I can't wait to see you at Christmas! Love, Harry." James read it out, and Regulus smiled, he was glad his son was so excited.
They spent their lives together, they were happier than Regulus thought possible, and Regulus wouldn't trade this for anything, he was glad James Potter was his soulmate.
