so I thought of this one. one day while working. inspired by the song does he love you by Reba McEntire and Linda Davis.
Astoria griped her champagne glass as she saw a woman in a blue dress enter the hall with no escort. Telling all who were interested that she was free. But that wasn't true because she had seen this woman in the photos and reports from her investigator. She was the woman who had been seeing her husband for the last two years.
She looked over to her husband to see if he had also noticed, he did, he tried to hide it behind taking a sip from his drink. But she was able to see how his posture changed. His hand which had been around her just a second ago was now in his pocket. His easygoing feel around the people they were talking to was gone. He tried to keep it up but his attention would drift back to her. She wanted to say something but bit her tongue, instead smiling at the crowd.
Hermione was trying really really hard not to look across the room knowing he was there. She shouldn't have come, she was sure that he wouldn't come to this event. He never comes to these ones. The only one she had ever got him to go to was at the start of their relationship. He had joined her at a benefit at Eygpt, no that was not right he had met her there. Going together that would have caused questions from those who knew that he was married. Not that she had known then, no it took 13 months of them dating before she found out that he was married.
Hermineo had always been a career witch it was one of the reasons she wasn't able to keep a relationship. At first, they would be supportive of her and her work but after a while, they would complain that they didn't even feel like they had a girlfriend. Because of how much time she would spend at work or cancel a date when something came up. It was not like she didn't understand their feelings but she couldn't stop she loved her work. It was important to her. so when she ran into Draco Malfoy one evening at a bar a block away from one of the benefits that she had been at that served food that wasn't really food but more of a few vials of liquid that tasted like certain foods that combined with her not eating anything earlier that day. Due to working and worrying about fitting into her dress. This all made it necessary for her to stop by a nearby pub for a bite. In a dress that was a little too dressy. Something that Draco had no problem poking fun at her for wearing while she sat on a dirty stool shoving chips into her mouth.
That led to lunch the next day, then dinner the next. They continued to meet until they eventually started sleeping together. Then they started dating and they would send letters to each other. she always sent them to his office because like her he was a workaholic and was there all the time anyway. They went to events together, well he would meet her there. He didn't want her to be late for any of her events because he got caught up in work and have to wait for the next port key. He still lived in England because that was where the main branch of his company was. And spent most of his time there only seeing her twice every couple of weeks. But that was fine with her because she was always buried in work herself and it was nice seeing someone who also knew how it could get when you get engrossed with work. It was all great until she got the opportunity to relocate back to England thinking it would be a great surprise she didn't tell him. She simply moved and while setting up her new flat the daily profit came a paper she hadn't kept up with since she had first moved from her home country. Reading through it she became confused at a short article talking about how the Malfoys had another grand party to celebrate their four years of marriage. She was confused because she had been dating Draco for the last 14 months.
Astoria walked the room saying hello to different people some she was acquainted with others not as much. She was making her way to one person in particular though she was making sure she didn't make it look like that was what she was doing. She would take a glance every now and then to make sure she was going in the right direction. Why she was doing this she didn't know. what she would do when she finally came face to face with the woman who had been sleeping with her husband for the last two years she had no idea. but she couldn't stop herself she wanted to look her in the eyes. She should be angry she had a right to be angry to yell and point a finger at this woman who was coming into her marriage. She was the wife she was the one Draco said he would love and be with for the rest of their life in front of all their loved ones. anytime she glanced at the women she could feel herself becoming more and more insecure. She was beautiful and not just in an obvious physical way. The way she stood the way she spoke she was confident powerful even. She had heard of Hermione Granger before hell they had gone to the same school though she was two years behind. Everyone knew the brightest witch of her age. But why did she need to try and take a man who was already married? Why was she the reason Draco smiled anytime he had to leave for a day or two for work? Astoria looked to Hermione and then drifted her gaze over to where she had left her husband he was no longer bothering to talk with anyone. Now he was just leaning against the bar watching through the crowd of people while she talked, her curls bouncing around her. Astoria watched as a smile tugged at his lips. He must have sensed her eyes on him because he looked over at her for the first time for all she knew since she left his side. It must have been something on her face that gave her away because he pushed off the bar and started to her.
Hermione noticed him rushing even if she wasn't always aware of the man she would have noticed. He was rushing to her, the woman with blond straight hair small frame, and a pretty face. A face that she avoided or ignored anytime Draco was in the paper. He always rushed to her, there had been a few times he received an owl from her saying that she needed him home and he would apologize to her before leaving her alone. it was not like she didn't get it she was just the mistress of course the wife would take priority. But why did he have to tell her that he loved her? why anytime that she tried to end their relationship did he stop her? saying how he loves her. telling her fantasy of a life that they would have. Take her against any surface that he could whenever he saw her deep in thought about them. When she first learned that Draco was married she was angry when she told him it was over he cried holding her telling her that he needed her that he wants her that he believed in her and them. after that, she convinced herself that he was just with Astoria for his family. But that lie became harder and harder to make herself believe as time went by.
She watched as Draco put his arms around his wife whispering to her and guiding her out probably leaving to return back to their home. She thought Astoria looked back straight at her causing Hermione to look down into her drink. Why did she have to feel shame for loving a man that loved her back? Did he love her? Hermione sat her drink down on a nearby table deciding to leave as well. She wondered how long it would be before he came to see her to confront her. A day, or two? Maybe he wouldn't at all and she wouldn't have to wonder if he loved her.
