Chapter 2 - The Secret

Steven starts choking up, tears welling in his eyes as he thinks about the past.

STEVEN

(sad, nostalgic)

I once talked to Connie, my wife, about doing this. I guess today is the day.

He lets out a big sigh and sits in silence for a short time, contemplating his decision.

STEVEN

(talking to himself, unsure)

I'm going crazy, aren't I?

With an annoyed groan, he continues speaking to the crystal.

STEVEN

(sincere)

You know, I've thought about having a jeweler put you on a necklace so I could have the rest of you with me if that's actually really you. But I'm afraid the Gems would recognize that pink hue. It seems like I've become much more like you with age, keeping secrets and not sharing everything with the Gems.

He pauses for a short while, gathering his thoughts, then manages to speak again through his tears.

STEVEN

(emotional)

My last therapist knew about this, and she told me I could do this - talk to you, even if you aren't actually alive. She passed away years ago, and she had retired twenty years before that. But she continued seeing me. I still haven't found a new one, and I don't think I'll ever find another one, to be honest. Nine long term therapists are enough for this lifetime.

Steven wipes his tears and takes a shaky breath, looking up at the pillar as if seeking answers.

STEVEN

(tearing up)

Lion is the only one who knows about this now, other than me. He can't really tell on me. And Connie knew...

He sobs, tears streaming down his face.

STEVEN

(crying)

I miss her so much. I just can't handle it anymore.
