I watch the hole grow bigger and bigger as something is chewing a hole to free Ladybug. Finally, with a roar the Venus flytrap spits her out and goes back into the earth. I watch Ladybug sit for a moment, trying to clean herself off. "Ugh, I smell like files. I need a bath." She gets up and turns to find me open-mouthed and staring at her. "What?"
"You were eaten by a Venus flytrap then spit out and all your worried about is how you smell?" "Pretty much, yeah." "Your unbelievable."
By now, even locked in this prison of thorns and roses, I can tell its heading towards night. "We'll need to set up camp for the night. I'm sure this place is loaded with dead branches. We'll just have to find a clear spot for the fire pit." I'm listening to her, but after the word "camp" everything faded away, and I sallow hard. "Um," I start to play with my tail. "I've never been camping before."
Ladybug crosses her arms and cocks her head. "Huh, I find that surprising. Did you ever go to camp?" "Er, no. I was doing other activities." "Well, its simple and we can even cheat a little with the lucky charm."
She squeaks as stuff starts raining down: A tent, blankets, pillows. Even two rocks. Ladybug shows me what to do and I hold the stake as she pounds them in. She's banging it particularly hard and I grin at her. "Are you picturing someone in your mind?" "Yeah, Hawkmoth. And that magician." "Don't worry, we'll find a way out of here and beat them."
Ladybug is quiet for a moment and I wonder what's she thinking. "I'll get the sticks for the fire, if you want to catch a fish." "And what am I, a catfish?" "Kitty, use your baton and some string and just cast your line. Your better yet, you can use your aqua powers to jump in and catch one." My mouth drops open. "Have you seen the size of some of those fish? I stay on the bank, thank you."
We start to head in opposite directions so we can complete our tasks. I have to pull up a video on how to assemble a fishing pole and even how to catch a fish. Okay, its not that hard to assemble a pole, but waiting is the hard part and I'm easily distracted. However, I get a text from Ladybug.
I look over in her direction, and see that she's started a fire.
Ladybug: Caught anything yet?
Cat: Yes, I caught the bug called love.
Ladybug: Good one.
Suddenly, my line tugs and not knowing what I'm doing, I sail into the water with a loud splash! "Ladybug! Help!" "I'm coming!" I go under to see I've hooked a huge fish. I see Ladybug hit the water, and she swims towards me. "Loose the fish!" "But, I want to catch dinner, not be dinner!" "Is it really the time for jokes right now?" "Meow do you think?" With a grunt and a heave, Ladybug unhooks my baton and heaves me to shore.
I lay panting, water spouting from my mouth. "Thanks, Bugaboo!" I look over at her, holding my waterlogged stomach. "I thought I was cat food!"
She catches a fish no problem and we both go over to the fire. The air smells good, and I like smell of the fire. "As soon as the fish is done, we'll have it with the mash potatoes I mashed earlier." "Sorry, I couldn't catch a fish." "Well," Ladybug's voice is soft and I swear she blushes in the firelight. "You always caught me when I fell."
Hanging out with Marinette all the time and watching rom-coms has made me a sucker for romance. "Aww, that's sweet." "Your a dork." "Yeah, your dork." We banter like that as we eat and I'm able to help her wash the dishes. Our hands brush as I pass her a plate, and we stare at each other for a moment.
When we crawl into the tent and get settled, Ladybug turns to me, snuggling close. "I wish we could see the stars here, or the moon." "Whenever your ready to tell me who you are, we'll run away together and watch the moon rise." "Mm, that sounds nice, Kitten."
Its peaceful in the tent, but I'm detecting an odd smell coming from Ladybug. "Um, you still smell like a fly, you know." "Yeah, because I was rescuing you from Jaws," she giggles. "Just for that, I'm giving you a bath in the morning. Bubbles and all." "I don't mind bubbles. It was you who always whined."
"Did being in that flytrap make you extra sassy or did it come with your fish and potatoes?" "That's it," Ladybug climbs onto me, her silky black hair brushing my cheek. "I'll show you sass, fur ball."
Her lips fasten to mine, and shift into a comfortable position wrapping my arms around her. I want to kiss her, for how many years have I dreamed of doing it, but something feels off?" "Ladybug," she pulls back at once. "What?" "What about Marinette? I don't want to cheat on her."
Color drains away in Ladybug's face. "Cat, I-" she takes a deep breath. "I'm not saying who I am, but I know that Marinette would want you to kiss me, and I would never lie to you and neither would she."
"That changes things." "Cat?" she asks in a small voice, and I wonder what's going on in her thoughts. "I want to detransform, so that you can touch me." "Don't worry, I have a solution." I pull out a bandanna and close my eyes tightly as she drops her transformation. She helps me put in on, then guides my hands to a loose cotton shirt, guiding it up and over. Soon, she's just in a little crop top and little shorts and I can hear her breathing quietly beside me. I remove the blindfold, now that I can't see her face and the light in the tent is extinguished and begin to give a her a massage, starting with her shoulders.
She lets out a soft groan, and I can feel her tight muscles relaxing. I whisper into her ear,
"As long as we have each other, there is nothing we can't do.
Our world made be Topsy-turvey, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
I'm here for you, through the darkest night.
If you get hurt, I'll be there with sweet words and kisses.
Even if we get torn apart by evil, remember, my love,
I'm always in your heart."
I can hear her soft breathing and I think she may have fallen asleep when she asks, "How do you think he got it back?" I play with her hair, stinky though it is. "The butterfly Miraculous? Evil lurks in the shadow and it can spread itself far." "Light and conquer the shadows, and bring the sun and peace back."
In the morning, my arm is wrapped around her waist, and I wake slowly. I want to turn and look at Ladybug, but what if she's not in the suit? "Don't worry, I changed back during the night. Did you sleep well, Kitty?" "Yes, but that always happens when I'm with you." I roll over, placing a hand on her waist as I give her a kiss, but the fly smell is strong. "You ready for your bath?" Ladybug groans. "I was hoping you forgot." "Oh, no. And the sooner the better, love."
"Oh, look at the time," she scrambles to leave the tent. "I have do…." I crawl out after her, catching her easily with my feline reflexes and throwing her gently over my shoulder. "Cat, what are you doing?" she laughs and she hangs upside down. "Put me down!" "I'll put you down when we reach the water."
During the night, I got restless and went exploring. This pool is free of fish and the temperature is like warm bath water. I lower her into the shallow pool and climb in after her. I found a bottle of shampoo and conditioner up near the staff quarters during the night.
I place my hands on Ladybug's shoulders. "Detransform and trust me." "Spots off," she whispers and her suit drops away and I begin to scrub gently, feeling all the little secret areas that only I can touch.
When she's all soapy and bubbles are floating out of her hair, I lead her under the gentle waterfall to get rinsed off. She retransforms, and pulls me to her, fastening her mouth to mine as the water flows over us.
"I suppose that now that I'm clean, you want me to make you breakfast?" she asks. Before I can respond, a whining sound starts to fill the air, and Ladybug and I cling to it each other. Is it another giant cavernous plant?
Giant vines with spikes drop down and begin to swinging back and forth, blocking our way back to the tent site. One after the after they're heading towards us, and Ladybug grabs my hand, and kicks with all her worth swimming behind the waterfall to a hidden rocky outcrop.
The water is cold back here and quickly I can feel my hand turning numb. Still, I don't let go of Ladybug's hand for anything. "We'll need to swing across those vines, then get out of here as quick as we can." "Did you say, swing, Bugaboo? As in Tarzan?" She nods. "But what about the spikes?" "Wait for the right moment then leap with all your power and might. The spikes are only on the bottom part."
I squeeze her hand. "Have I ever told you just how clever you are?" she grins at me. "Let's go!"
The vines are huge and the spikes are cruel ready to strike and jab, but we're superheroes, fit and athletic. It takes all our power and energy not to slip. I don't know if it took minutes or hours to get across to safety, but eventually we are free of the vines. Ladybug opens her glowing bug phone, then begins to run straight at the vines. "M'lady, what are you doing?" I yell, only duck as a huge swarm of aphids ermages and begins to chew at the prison of green.
