Chapter 9 - Mother's Actions
Steven confronts the memories of his mother's actions.
STEVEN
(angry)
I don't find it hard to believe that you recognized that mirror as a gem, unlike Amethyst Garnet and Pearl, and you did nothing about it! That's just awful. You were fully aware Lapis was trapped in there, and conscious inside Pearl the entire time, and you did nothing! That's like reason number fifty, That seriously makes me continue to question your morality, Number two being Lapis and Spinel a close third. I have it all listed down somewhere at home in my pile of notes I haven't written properly down.
Steven talks about the unclear motivations in his mother's memories.
STEVEN
(continuing)
The memories aren't entirely clear about your exact motivations for doing that to Lapis, Spinel, or even me, but what is clear is that you did lie, Mom.
Steven pauses and recalls a previous visit to the room.
STEVEN
(sad)
You weren't entirely truthful in that tape. I came here once, seeking answers about you when I was just a little boy, and the room helped me believe everything I wanted to believe about you then. It made me think that you didn't lie in the tape because that's what I wanted it to do.
Steven accuses his mother of being selfish.
STEVEN
(hurt)
We could have existed together, but you just didn't think that I without your gem, Would have been your child. I think it's pretty selfish of you to think that way. The Gems act as if you creating me was some sort of selfless act, when they themselves felt abandoned by you, the only purely selfless thing you did in that regard is you wanted to save the earth, And you wanted to let the Gems learn to live without you, especially Pearl. You never knew if she loved you or if it was just her imprinting.
Steven talks about his mother's knowledge of the Cluster.
STEVEN
(continuing)
One of the worst things you did, I think, is creating me, knowing a confrontation with Homeworld would happen soon. You knew about the Cluster, it was made during your reign, just a few years before the end and you knew Yellow would send someone to check on it, at least a year before it fused. And you actually did make me at least partially to leave your responsibilities behind, To hide away here from the Diamonds. Because you thought you wouldn't be able to save the Earth again for a third time especially so soon after you would have dealt with the cluster, You just thought it would be impossible for you to convince the Diamonds to leave Earth again like you did when you faked your death. You just thought your hybrid child might be able to do it... and you were right...
