Day Eight: Element
Marinette touched the dying roses for no more than a second when they sprouted back up looking as if they had been freshly picked that morning. She leaned in to smell their sweet scent that she loved dearly. The prince who was trying to court her had given them to her weeks ago as an apology for missing his visit with her. She tried to hide her pleased expression that he wasn't coming and gratefully accepted the roses. They were her favorites after all.
Marinette had a feeling that Prince Luka, wielder of the element of music, was in love with her. She wasn't quite sure how she would respond if he told her that he loved her. It wasn't like he was unpleasant to be around. She just felt that they weren't right for each other. After all, the person who was suppose to be your soulmate should have an element that fits with yours in a way.
While music and creation sounded like they would go together, Marinette had always thought of it as opposites attract like Prince Felix, wielder of the element of wind, and Princess Kagami, wielder of the element of earth. They hadn't liked each other at first, but over time, they became friends and eventually fell in love. Everyone around them knew that they were perfect for each other whenever they saw the couple together. Marinette hadn't found that person yet, but she was sure that she would find them one day. Maybe her soulmate would wield the element of destruction.
All of a sudden, something hit her window, bringing her out of her thoughts. Marinette rushed over to the window and waited. A rock flew upwards and hit her window again. She opened the window and looked down to see Chat Noir standing on the ground. When he saw that she had opened her window, he started waving up at her.
Marinette sighed at the ridiculous boy's behavior. She liked having Chat Noir around, although they had agreed that he needed to warn her that he was coming. This isn't what she had in mind, but it was better than nothing. She motioned for him to come up and backed away from the window. In a few seconds, Chat Noir was standing on her windowsill wearing a goofy smile on his face. "Hey Princess, how's life?"
"Good except for an annoying cat throwing things at my window," she jested.
Chat Noir dramatically attacked like an arrow had struck him in his heart. "Oh Princess, I'm sorry for frightening you but must you be so cruel?"
Marinette rolled her eyes before kissing him on the cheek. "Don't be so dramatic. You know I only speak in jest."
"But dear Princess, your words mean everything to me," he said. Chat grabbed her left hand and placed a kiss on it while winking. Marinette felt herself flush a little. Despite her and Chat only being friends, she couldn't help but feel her heart start to race whenever he flirted with her.
The thought randomly came to her that maybe she was in love with him, but Marinette brushed it off. After all, being in love with Chat seemed impossible since she was a princess and he was a commoner (or so she assumed). So she just let him flirt with her, and sometimes, she flirt with him, but she was careful to guard her heart. She couldn't fall in love with someone she couldn't have.
Marinette placed a finger on his nose and gently pushed his face out of the way. "Now, now, Chat, don't go all romantic poet on me."
He laughed and was about to say something when he seemed to notice something. Chat's mood soured at whatever it was that he had spotted. She turned around to find what was bothering him but didn't see anything out of the ordinary. "Chat, is everything alright?" she asked.
He turned back to her and gave her a fake smile. "Everything's fine, Princess. Why? Is something bothering you?"
"You just seemed really upset a moment ago. I just wanted to make sure you were okay."
His mood darkened once again. "Does Luka make you uncomfortable?"
Marinette sat there, shocked for a second before responding, "What?"
Chat gently grabbed her chin and made eye contact with her, "I asked 'Does Luka make you uncomfortable?'."
"Um, no. Why are you asking? Did someone say he did?"
Chat continued to stare at her for a moment. "You aren't in love with him, are you?"
"What?! No! He's just nice that's all! I don't like him in that sense at all!" she scrambled to get an explanation out.
"Good," Chat muttered before leaning in and kissing her. Marinette's brain stopped working the moment his lips touched hers, but she managed to kiss him back. Although she knew that she shouldn't let this continue, Marinette decided to forget about her worries for a few minutes and focus on kissing Chat Noir.
(Although it is not mentioned in the story, Marinette does not know that Chat Noir is the wielder of the element of destruction. You can decide whether or not Chat knows if Marinette is his soulmate or not.)
