Laura was sitting in her classroom eating Creampuffs and studying since she got there early despite meeting someone named Carmilla at a bar late at night. She swore she was going to be late to class today, but by some miracle, she wasn't.
The exam had finally started and she put her Creampuffs away under her desk. She was busy concentrating on her exam when she heard the sound of heavy boots heading in her direction. She glanced up from her paper for a second and was suddenly staring at Carmilla.
What the hell was going on?
Laura thought that Carmilla only took night classes, so she found it confusing to her, especially that she was in her class.
Laura whispered, "What are you doing here?"
Carmilla sat down next to her, "I wanted to see how my favorite dessert was doing."
The professor looked up from his paper, "No talking during the exam!"
Carmilla started to chuckle when the professor looked her way. He knew she was the Dean's daughter, so he didn't speak again in fear that something would get back to the Dean.
"But you only take night classes."
"Looks like day classes are becoming my thing."
"I swear, if you changed your schedule for me…"
"Hah, don't flatter yourself, Creampuff."
Laura was about to talk more when she noticed she was wasting her precious exam time on talking to Carmilla.
"Shut up, I'm in an exam! Go away."
"I'll go away after you go on a date with me."
"Fine, one date. Now go!"
Carmilla grinned, "See you after class."
Carmilla was leaning against a wall when she saw Laura come out of her classroom with her heavy backpack. She was also carrying the bag of Creampuffs on top of a big pile of books.
"Nerd much?"
"I'm not a nerd."
"Yeah, you are. All you need are glasses."
"You know that's just a stereotype, right? Not every nerd wears glasses."
Carmilla took out her glasses and put them on.
"Yeah, I know that."
"You look…"
"Hot?"
"Good."
"Thanks. You really know how to boost my ego," Carmilla said sarcastically.
Carmilla put the glasses away in her black bag that she was carrying.
"So about that date."
"What about it?"
"How about tonight?"
"I have to study."
"You always have to study."
"You just met me."
"And?"
"And I have to do well in my classes or else I lose my scholarship."
"How about I guarantee you won't lose it?"
"What are you going to do, bribe someone?"
"Maybe."
"Not interested."
Carmilla stopped Laura in her tracks by walking in front of her, almost making her drop her Creampuffs and books.
"Laura, what if we made a deal?"
"What kind of deal?"
"Let me secure your scholarship for this upcoming year and you help me study."
"What makes you think I'll lose it?"
"You never know, Laura."
"Is that a threat?"
"Of course not."
"See you tonight at seven."
Laura stormed past Carmilla and angrily started eating her Creampuffs.
Seven had arrived and gone, no sign of Laura.
Carmilla was furious and was about to leave when she saw Laura running into the building.
"I'm so sorry, Carmilla!"
"What's your excuse? Studying?"
"Yeah, I actually lost track of time. I'm so sorry."
"Save it."
"What the hell? At least I showed up! Before you ask why I didn't text or call, it's because you never gave me your number."
"Give me your phone."
Carmilla held out her hand and Laura put her phone in the vampire's hand. She was tempted to break the phone, but instead, she put in her number. Afterwards, Carmilla called her own phone and saved Laura's number.
"There, now you have no excuse."
"Look, I really am sorry."
"I know. I thought something happened to you."
"Like what?"
"You never know what can happen on campus. This isn't a normal university."
"Yeah, I kind of figured that out when it came to choosing clubs."
"Oh?"
"Did you know there's an alchemy club?"
"Yes, I did."
"So about the date…"
"Yes?"
"What are we doing? Please tell me we're not going to a bar."
"No, even better."
"What?"
"A coffee shop named The Raven."
"But the caffeine will keep me up."
"You didn't care about that last night."
Laura blushed again and Carmilla was liking how easy it was to make this human blush. It made the thought of leading her to her demise all the more heartbreaking. She tried not to think about it.
Carmilla and Laura were walking outside together when Carmilla stopped in front of a black motorcycle.
"There's no way in hell I'm getting on that with you!"
"Trust me?"
Carmilla sat on the motorcycle and offered her hand, which Laura took. The blonde wrapped her arms around Carmilla's waist. Carmilla handed her a black helmet after she put hers on. Laura took it and put it on.
"Buckle up, Buttercup."
Laura had no idea what she was doing, but she was loving the ride. Of course, she wouldn't admit it to Carmilla, who moved in and out of traffic with ease. She would lean the same direction as Carmilla when they had to turn and relaxed when they finally reached their destination.
Carmilla let Laura get off of the motorcycle first and she almost fell over. She started to laugh at herself.
"That was exhilarating! Did you see how fast you were going?"
"Duh, I was the one in control."
"Is it always that scary?"
"No, you're just new to the experience."
"It felt like a rollercoaster at first when you took off like that. My stomach dropped like ten thousand floors."
Carmilla chuckled and removed her helmet. Laura took hers off too and both of them brought their helmets inside.
Carmilla paid for both of their drinks and found a table near the window so she could keep an eye on her motorcycle.
"What were you studying tonight?"
"Philosophy."
"Oh, joy."
"Your favorite!"
"Don't act so cheery this late at night, someone might think you're crazy."
"You're the one who brought me here!"
Carmilla drank her large cup of coffee and laughed.
"What's so funny?"
"I guess I'm surprised that you agreed to go on a date with me."
"Why?"
"We just met."
"I have a feeling about people and you didn't seem to give me a bad vibe."
"Maybe you should get that checked out."
Laura was about to say something when an older woman came in and ordered a coffee. Carmilla recognized the voice and froze immediately. It was the voice of her mother and was actually somewhat fearful of what the human murderer would do if she saw Carmilla with another human.
Carmilla hadn't spoken to her mother in quite some time since she had left a few nights before. She was supposed to remain in contact with her, but she didn't want to, not this time. There was something different about Laura Eileen Hollis and Carmilla didn't want to surrender her to her mother.
"Carmilla, how lovely it is to see you here."
Carmilla wanted to ignore her, but Laura looks confused, so she greeted the older woman.
"Hello, mother."
"Mother?!"
"Laura, this is my mother, the Dean of our university, Lilita Morgan."
"Uh, hi."
Laura held out her hand awkwardly and Lilita took it. She smiled at Laura, who felt very nervous to be meeting the woman that had control over whether she attended the university or not.
"Now why were you hiding this precious gem from me?"
"I wasn't! We're on a date, so if you don't mind."
"A date? Oh, I didn't know I was interrupting something."
"Well, you are."
"Carmilla, don't be so rude to your own mother."
"Laura, drop it."
Lilita could see she was getting under Carmilla's skin and just wanted to enjoy it a little longer.
"See you tonight, Carmilla. Don't run late."
"Goodbye, Mother."
