Chapter 4
.
Michael sat alone in his jail cell. He was ashamed of his actions, particulary molesting his 13 year old daughter. He hadn't killed her, as far as he knew it was those religious fanatics. But, perhaps if he hadn't impregnated her, she wouldn't have been at the clinic, the fanatics never would have targeted her. In a moral sense at least, her death was his fault. While in his cell, he saw "him" again. It was the man in the dark robe, the man he saw kill Bianca. How had he gotten in here? Who was he. Michael didn't know these answers, but was terrified of this man.
.
Man in robe: Hello Michael.
Michael: Please don't hurt me.
Man in robe: But you were willing to hurt me, to tell the police I killed your daughter.
Michael: I didn't have a choice.
Man in robe: Yes you did. I told you once, you could have anything you wanted, and you chose your daughter. But she might have exposed what we did to her, might have known I was present.
Michael: The voices in my head, that was you?
Man in robe: Yes. And you chose to betray me to avoid prison. Your wish will be granted, you will not rot, in man's prison.
Michael: Why me?
Man in robe: Ever since the rapture, many souls are ours for the taking. I was merely the instrument to bring more souls to Hell. And now, your soul belongs to us.
Michael: No!

Joe and I were filling out paperwork. Michael hadn't confessed to murder, but he had admitted to molesting his daughter. We still had no evidence of his guilt in the murder, but we planned to keep looking. It was then that we were informed of Michael's suicide in his jail cell. Joe and I went to the cell, the paramedics had been unable to revive him, he was still hanging just above his cot.
.
Joe: Looks like he killed himself, rather than go to prison as a child molestor.
Bill: Do you think he murdered his daughter?
Joe: Personally, yes I do. I doubt we'll ever be able to prove it now, but it would mean reasonable doubt for any other suspect charged with that murder. In any event, this was clearly a suicide.
Bill: Yeah, except for one thing.
Joe: What's that?
Bill: Suppossedly he made himself a rope, and jumped off his cot to die. So why are his feet above the cot?
