A/N okay first off people I swear I am going to update my other Breagan story I promise. But this idea that I recently came up with just won't leave my headspace right now! So if you haven't yet seen part two if Inside Job there will be spoilers. This fic starts off right after the first episode of part two and then changes from there.
Summary: After making the decision to finally put herself and her happiness first (and after hooking up with someone from a rival company) Reagan Ridley has vowed to move forward and keep her life as uncomplicated as possible (at least as much as you can while still helping run the shadow government). That all changes when a teenage boy suddenly appears in the middle of her living room, claiming to be her future son or maybe he's her son from an alternate reality? According to him it all depends on if time is linear or not. Oh and his twin sister who he was traveling with is missing…oh and his father is apparently BRETT HAND!
I own nothing but the plot and my oc's
Reagan pov
"It is going to be a good day!" Reagan happily says to herself as she poured black coffee into her mug. You would think that Reagan would have still been in a bad mood, or at least passed out drunk somewhere. But not today after her plan to humiliate her father Rand during Bohemian Groove and get him fired failed; Reagan Ridley has decided to leave well enough alone and let her father screw up running Cognito on his own. Eventually the robes would have to come after him for ignoring them anyway; until then she can do her job and wait until the next opportunity comes for her to become CEO. In the meantime, she would finally start enjoying her life (and hopefully some more hook ups) nothing was going to get in her way.
With that thought in mind Reagan began to gather her things so that she could leave for work; only to become literally blindsided by a blinding bright light. "Shit, what the fuck is that?!" She questioned out loud as the light kept bouncing around the living room. "Fuck, did the Atlanteans figure out what I did to their food supplies while they were at Bohemian?!" Reagan wonders out loud as the light continues to bounce around until it finally stops. Reagan hears a loud thump and a groan as what sounded like a body hits the floor of her living room. "What the hell?" Reagan shouts as looks down at what appeared to now be a teenage boy disoriented on her living room floor.
"Shit, that wasn't supposed to happened?" The teenage boy says with a groan as he tries to sit up. "Michelle are you-WHOA WHAT THE HELL MO-" The boy's sentence is cut off as he stares down the barrel of one of Reagan's ray guns.
"Alright kid, what the hell do you think you're doing?" Reagan questions with a harsh glare as she stares down at the strange boy in her living room. The boy just stared back scared but clearly confused, he must have been a new recruit for whichever company decided to send him. They must have told him that she wouldn't fight back because he was a kid, she really hoped that the extraction team would be able to clean up his blood when this is over.
"Mom, really I get that you'd be upset but is the ray gun really necessary?!" The teenage boy says as he tries to back away from the barrel of the gun. "Can't you just ground me and Michelle like you normally do?"
"Excuse me?!" Reagan questions again appearing just as confused as the boy cowering away from the ray gun.
"I know that Michelle and I didn't exactly have your permission Mom but-" The boy strutters as he tried to explain himself only for Reagan to dig the ray gun into his face.
"Enough with the fucking games kid." Reagan says harshly while digging deeper into the boy's face. "So, stop calling me Mom and tell me who sent you? Reptoids? Atlanteans? Mole people? Who the fuck sent you?!"
If the boy looked scared before now, he looked terrified. "I-Mom what the hell are you doing?" He asked in a choked-up voice trying to fight down frighten tears. "This isn't like you?"
"I don't know what your boss told you kid, but crying isn't gonna get you any mercy here?" Reagan said evenly with a harsh glare still own her face. "You've got exactly one minute to explain yourself before your brain bits mess up my nice actually cleaned for once apartment floors."
"Apartment?" The boy repeats back in confusion, his eyes flicker around the room before he suddenly jumps up in panic causing Reagan to step back a bit not expecting this behavior. "Oh, shit shit SHIT?!" The boy kept muttering to himself as his eyes kept flickering from the apartment to Reagan to back to the apartment again. "Fuck, I need to get out of here!" The boy says as he tried to hurry out the door.
"Oh, no you don't kid!" Reagan said as she hurried after him with her ray gun, stopping him before he could reach the door. "You're not leaving here until you explain yourself? Now for the last fucking time, who sent you?"
"I-I ah-" The boy stutters as he tries to come up with an excuse, while Reagan continued to give him a death glare.
"You've got five more seconds kid." Reagan says her tone is very serious. "After that I'm shooting."
"I-I ah r-really don't think-" The boy continues to stutter as panic starts setting in.
"Four." Reagan says evenly. "Three."
"A-And b-believe me the truth is like crazy hard to believe-" The boy continues to quickly explain.
"TWO." Reagan exclaims as her finger lingers on the trigger. "ON-"
"I'm your son okay!" The boy shouts in a terrified and panicked tone. "I wasn't sent by anyone, I just-"
"Son?!" Reagan interrupts as she shouted in disbelief, almost laughing at the foolishness of this kid's statement. "Really, that's the best lie you could come up with?"
"It's not a lie!" The boy says defensively. "I really am your son!"
This time Reagan does laugh at the kid, a full-blown tears in her eyes kind of laugh too. "Okay son." Reagan says sarcastically before holding up her ray gun again. "Did you really expect me to fall for that? You could have at least tried to come up with a more believable lie."
"But I'm telling you the truth!" The boys exclaimed in a slightly annoyed tone. "Your name is Reagan Ridley, right? You live in D.C., you went to MIT at age thirteen, work for the shadow government through a company called Cognito Inc-"
"Really kid, your idea of proof are just facts that even the slowest mole person knows about?" Reagan interrupts in an impatient tone. "What else do you got?"
"I-I? I have pictures!" The boy says in an excited tone as he digs through his jean pockets, the sudden movement puts Reagan on edge, but she allows the kid to fiddle with the device that he took out of his pocket. "I'm sure I have a recent…there!" From the device a projected image of the boy and what appeared to be Reagan came into view. Reagan was happily smiling with her arms wrapped around the boy's shoulders as the boy held up the science award. "See that's a picture of you and me!"
"Really kid? Doctored photos?" Reagan laughed darkly. "Man, you really are a rookie!"
"They aren't doctored!" The boy shouts defensively as he facepalmed. "Jesus fucking Christ, why do I have the most stubborn and paranoid mother on the planet!"
"Sorry, stubbornness, paranoia, and seeing through bullshit are just in my DNA!" Reagan proclaimed evenly.
"That's it! That's how I can prove it!" The boy says excited. "A DNA test!"
"DNA test?" Reagan repeats back in disbelief.
"Well, you won't believe me or anything I show you, but DNA doesn't lie! It's not like I can fake my DNA." The boy says with a shrug. "You must have a DNA matching device around here, right? And if you don't I know that it wouldn't be that hard for you to make one."
The kid was right of course she still had the device that her father created out of spite on the moon. Reagan had planned to throw it away with the rest of his things when she kicked him out, but she thought the device was useful enough to keep. She just hadn't figured out yet what she would use it for. "Alright kid I'll humor you, luckily for you up until you showed up in my living room out of nowhere, I was having a good day. And as long as you don't try anything funny, we can try matching your DNA with mine. But when it comes back negative you must tell me once and for all who sent you? Deal?"
"Deal!" The boy agreed happily with a large smug smile now on his face.
Well, I can't wait to wipe that smug smile off that kid's face. I really hope that the extraction team will be able to get all the blood out before I have to come back home after work. Reagan thinks to herself as she goes searching for her father's DNA matching device.
Thirty minutes later
"This cannot be happening?!" Reagan exclaims in disbelief as she glared harshly at her father's invention. "Something must have gone wrong with this thing!" She says as she paced back and forth in her living. "There must be a glitch or wires crossed…something?" Reagan nervously mutters to herself. "Because there is no way that this thirteen-year-old-"
"Actually, I just turned fifteen…Mom." The boy says with a smirk while causally sitting on her couch.
Reagan couldn't help cringing at the word Mom; and being annoyed at her sigh son's smug tone. Because against all odds and with multiple uses of different types of physical DNA samples the results were all the same. According to her father's device this boy hadn't been lying, he was biologically her son, a son by the way that she never remembered having and if he was fifteen that would mean that she had him as a teenager. I swear to God if Rand erased this from my memory too, I am going to murder him today! Reagan forcefully threw the device across the room and cursed under her breath, this behavior caused the boy her son to jump up in surprise, he held his hands up in front of him as if he was afraid, she would attack him next. Great job Reagan, less than an hour into being a mother and you've already traumatized your kid that's got to be record. "I'm not going to hurt you kid." Reagan tries to reassure him. "What are…how are-" She was at a lost for words I mean how does one even begin to have a conversation with a newly discovered son. "What's your name?"
"Isaac." The boy…her son answered evenly while lowering his hands.
"Isaac." Reagan repeats back committing the name to memory, it was a good name growing up she had a lot of respect for Isaac Newton. So, it would make sense that she would name her…her son Isaac. She finally takes a good look at him, before when she thought he was a spy she hadn't really focused too much on his appearance. Not wanting to remember any details about him before she killed him, but now things were different he was her son and as awkward as this was, she wanted to know the details now. His hair is brown just like hers, but it is a shade or so lighter, his eyebrows were thick a trait that most Ridley's had; but he also had her nose which was something she inherited from her mother. It was weird though his overall facial structure seemed familiar, but she just couldn't place where she had seen it before.
"Mom?" Isaac questions after she had gone quiet for several minutes. "Are you alright?"
"I'm sorry I just don't remember…I don't remember having you and-" Reagan was nearly choking up as so many questions were hitting her at once.
"Well, duh I'm pretty sure I haven't been born yet." Isaac says plainly rolling his eyes.
"And I can't believe my father would-" Reagan paused mid rant to stare at her son in disbelief. "What did you say?"
"Yeah, it's like the early 2020's, right?" Isaac says with a shrug. "Or at least that's what the calendar says. So yeah, haven't been born yet."
"Wait, wait, wait?" Reagan questions in confusion. "You're saying that you haven't been born yet?"
"Yeah. I'm from the future." Isaac says with a nervous chuckle. "It's kind of why I tried to leave right away when I realized what had happened." Isaac explained to his very very confused mother. "Although, I guess now this means my theory was correct about time travel!" He says excitedly, he takes out the same device that he had used to show her a picture of them. "I can't wait to tell Michelle that she was wrong about this!" He said as he was using the device to excitedly take notes with.
"Wait what? Time travel?!" Reagan exclaimed in shock. "You know how to time travel?!"
"Yes." Isaac said as he continued to take notes. "I thought that was kinda obvious when I showed you that picture." He paused for a second as if realizing something important, he looked away from his device and started looking around the apartment. "Hey where's Michelle?"
"Michelle?" Reagan repeats the name in confusion. "Who the fuck is Michelle?"
"Michelle is my twin sister." Isaac explains evenly. "I was traveling with her we went back in time together…you didn't shoot her, did you?!"
"Fuck, I have a daughter too!" Reagan shouted in disbelief as if finding out she had a son wasn't enough now she had a daughter, and they were twins apparently. "Where the hell is she?"
"How am I supposed to fucking know!" Isaac shouts back in a panic tone as he begins to pace back and forth. "Damnit we were only supposed to go back one week not like sixteen years! Something must have gone wrong; shit she could literally be anywhere in time!"
"Oh shit." Reagan said in disbelief, her head now spinning it was all getting to be too much. First, her son who apparently was from the future lands in the middle of her living, now she's got a missing daughter lost somewhere in the vacuums of space and time! "She could be anywhere? It might take decades to find her and…and why the fuck would I let my own children just time travel by themselves?!"
"Oh, yeah you're just c-cool like that in the future!" Isaac says in a nervous tone stuttering a bit and rubbing the back of his neck causing Reagan to become suspicious.
Reagan Ridley has known about the shadow government her entire life and has worked in that system for what feels like a lifetime. With all those years of experience under her belt she could easily tell when someone was lying or at least trying to dodge the truth. And clearly Isaac was trying to hide something that his very expressive face couldn't hide very well. Again where have I seen that face before? His facial expressions seemed so familiar and yet she still couldn't place it when he deviated from her own mannerisms. "Where is the time machine you used? Or device or whatever?"
"It's a device and Michelle and I were both holding it." Isaac explained as he remembered. "Wait I was still holding onto it when I landed here!" He proclaimed as he ran back to the area where Reagan had first found him. "I found…half of it?! Michelle must have the other half." Isaac says as he looked down sadly at what Reagan believed to be half of a tablet.
"Well, that's good right?" Reagan says hopefully. "That means that your sister must have the other half. I mean even half of the tablet is bond to give off some kind of energy wave that would echo across time?"
"Yeah and…and maybe if I'm lucky." Isaac started to ponder out loud. "I can use the 10G wave tracker on my phone to look for that energy wave and find her!" He says in an excited tone as he took out his device again. "As long as she is within two decades of this time period I can…Yes found…oh shit! We've got to go!" Isaac grabs his mother's hand and tries to rush them out the door.
"Whoa slow down kid." Reagan says as she's dragged along making him stop in front of her car so that they could get in.
"We don't have time, Mom." Isaac says in a hurried tone as he sat down in the passenger's seat. "If my calculations are correct…and of course they are, then Mike is going to land at-"
"Mike?" Reagan questions in confusion.
"Michelle's nickname." Isaac says smiling a bit fondly. "And my nickname is Ike, Dad likes to call me and my twin sister, Mike and Ike because it's his favorite candy. Anyway, according to my tracker another 10G energy wave is hovering over this time period."
"Well, that's good right?" Reagan says from the driver's seat. "That means that your sister should land in this year! Why don't we just wait here for her?"
"We can't." Isaac says in a panicked tone. "Because according to the tracker she may land in this year, but the direction the energy wave is going is Cognito Inc! And if you held a ray gun to my face when I landed in your living room then-"
"Oh shit those assholes would definitely have her killed first and ask questions later!" Reagan panics as she finally understands her son's concern, she quickly starts her car and pulls into traffic without looking or caring about other vehicles. "How long do we have until she lands?"
"Around thirty minutes." Isaac says wincing a bit as his mother speeds past a red-light nearing avoiding an incoming truck. "Of course, the office is big she could end up anywhere inside the building." He said as his mother nearly avoids crashing into an SUV. "Okay, I'm going to turn on the radio so I can focus on something else while you drive." He turns the radio on a random station, that was playing the song Accidently in love. "Wow even while time traveling, I can't avoid Dad's favorite song."
"Okay, when we get to Cognito we're going to need some help to find your sister." Reagan states as she continues to speed down the road. Reagan was still upset at her team for not backing up her takeover plan, she hated to have to ask for help especially after not being given that the day before. But this wasn't about her, it was about Michelle and Isaac, her future children and their safety. "I can call-"
"No! No calling anyone!" Isaac says forcefully.
"Isaac, of course I have to call for backup!" Reagan said, sparing him a glance before looking back at the road. "We're going to need help if you sister lands at Cognito and the wrong person finds her there-"
"I know but one of the most important rules of time travel is to avoid messing with the time period that you are in. Dad is always said that a lot of the problems that happened in Back to the Future could have been avoid if Marty hadn't met his teenage parents." Isaac explains evenly. "It's already bad enough that you know who I am! That's already one person's mind that I'll have to erase lat-"
"You're planning to erase my mind?" Reagan shouts angrily stopping in the middle of the road to yell at her son. "What the hell, Isaac?"
"Hello newsflash Mom, I can't risk my own existence!" Isaac shouts back. "And I can't risk you acting awkward around Dad the next time you see him, if what he says is true about you punching him the first time, he tried to hug you I can only image what you'd do the next time you see him at work now that you know you'll have children together!"
"What?" Reagan says in a confused tone. In the time that she had met Isaac it was just now occurring to her that she knew next to nothing about who his father was. After all, the day started with her being in disbelief that she had a son and come to find out that said son was a time traveler whose twin sister was missing in action. But the way Isaac was speaking right now, the certainty in his tone gave her pause because he spoke as if she Reagan Ridley should know who his father is despite never once stating who he was himself.
"Mom! Are you listening to me?" Isaac shouts, interrupting her thoughts.
"What? WHAT?!" Reagan stutters as she's forced to focus her attention back on him.
"You have to move the car; we've been stopped in the middle of the road for too long?" Isaac explains while gesturing towards the road. "We've got to get going remember."
"Oh, OH RIGHT." Reagan says with a nervous laugh as she starts driving. "I was just trying to come up with an explanation for when we reach Cognito, and my Co-workers see you they'll have questions. I know Brett will be right at the door waiting and-"
"Well, luckily my watch can make me invisible and undetectable as long as I have it on me. I should be able to get through security know problem. It is sixteen years out of date." Isaac interrupts. "And it's probably best that Dad doesn't know that I'm here anyway, lord knows that if it were up to him half the company would know about me and Michelle before they've had their first cup of coffee and the second half would know by lunch time. Plus, again that would be another person's mind that I would have to erase and-"
"What?" Reagan says almost in a whisper to herself.
"I mean if it weren't for the nanobots in his brain he'd-" Isaac began to say only for his sentence to get interrupted by his mother slamming the breaks and causing him to hit his head on the dashboard. "Awe, Mom what the hell?" He turned over to question her in confusion. "Mom?"
At the moment Reagan couldn't hear him, she was too busy overanalyzing what he just said about nanobots, this was something else that Isaac brought up when he was referring to his father. It was standard protocol for new hires to be injected with nanobots at Cognito only if they were a liability risk. But it wasn't just the nanobots that Isaac has mention when referencing his father, this mystery man called their twins Mike and Ike because it was his favorite candy, this person clearly had a love of 80's movies too. What wasn't making sense though was according to what Isaac has said so far this is someone that she likely currently works with, which is why Isaac doesn't want her to act weird around the guy…because she's already punched him the first time, he tried to hug her. "Oh, my god?!"
"Mom?" Isaac calls out again and this time Reagan takes a real hard look at him again and nearly gasped at the way he is tilting his head to the side a bit and staring at her with an all to familiar frown on his face. "You okay there Mom?" Reagan feels a panic spreading throughout her body at that sentence as the pieces were finally coming together. It just couldn't be who she was starting to think it was could it?
"Mom?!" Isaac shouts shaking her this time.
"I-I must not be okay…in fact I've got to be out of my fucking mind if what I'm thinking is even…ha ha!" Reagan said in a nervous laugh. "But that's completely impossible!" Reagan started laughing maniacally from her car seat as Isaac could do nothing but witness her apparent mental breakdown. "I can't believe that I'm even entertaining the idea the idea that…that Brett Hand is your father." Reagan could hardly breathe as she laughed her ass off at the idea.
"And so?" Isaac comments in a confused tone. "Wasn't that…obvious?"
The car suddenly goes silently as Reagan stops laughing, what little color she has on her face is suddenly drained. "Wait that cannot-"
"Wait didn't you know?" Isaac asked while tilting his head to the side again in confusion. "How did you not know?"
"What do you mean?" Reagan says defensively while tightening her grip on the steering wheel. "It's not like you said anything about it!"
"I didn't think I had too!" Isaac counters back. "Aside from my hair being a different color, all my life all anyone has ever said was that I looked exactly like him! Aunt Gigi always said that if it wasn't for my nose I would look like his twin."
"Shit." Reagan groans to herself as she lets her head flop down on the wheel, of course it was so obvious now that it was pointed out to her. How could she not recognize the face of her best friend on her son? Actually, the bigger question was what was the face of her best friend doing on her son? "How could this have happened?"
"It was my understanding that sex was involved." Isaac said in a deadpanned tone.
"Ew, Isaac don't say that!" Reagan said, hiding a small blush as she shudders at his words.
"Mom, can you freak out about this later." Isaac says rolling his eyes at her. "Right now, we still have to save Michelle."
"Right." Reagan says with a sigh as she starts moving the car again. Isaac was right first they needed to focus on making sure his sister didn't get killed, she can and will properly freak out about having children with Brett Hand after.
A/N and that is the end of the first chapter!
