Pursuit (Super Lana 1)

Originally Written June 2003; Revised March 2023

Notes Part 1: This story revises and adds some twists to its previous version. Back then, I have to admit that I wrote it as a post-episodic story for "Exodus." I never imagined the positive feedback for Lana's enhanced situation. I also never thought that the Super Lana series would come out of it either. Well, thanks to everyone, the series went on for 50 installments. (It could always come back to life. The thought is tempting….) I know stories like "Tournament" flesh out "Pursuit" in their own right. Still, some folks have pointed out that the story felt rushed. So, in honor of the twentieth anniversary, let's look at Lana's, Clark's (and yes, Kal's) respective journeys toward their end and the series' launching point. As Clark would famously say, 'Up, Up and Away!'

Notes Part 2: Smallville belongs to DC and the WB. Miranda and Sandra are my characters. Please send comments to dante0220

Spoilers: Everything so far. This story takes place right after "Exodus".

Introduction [Kent Farm]

Lana Lang writes….

Dear Diary,

I can't believe it. I just can't believe it.

For years, I sat on my parents' (and later Nell's) front porch. I'd gaze out my bedroom window. I'd look up at the stars above. Every year, I blew out more candles. I asked and kind of pleaded for one thing. My mind was on one thing…or rather it was on a certain dark haired neighbor boy.

Yeah him, Clark Kent….

He and his parents pushed everyone away. When I tried to talk with him, Clark couldn't face me. In fact, he'd get sick and trip all over himself. His face would turn pale and almost green. I couldn't understand. I thought he hated me. I lost patience. I tried to move on with Whitney. He could be nice too.

My heart though still wanted Clark….

Then, I saw Clark watching me in the Talon. It was kind of weird and yet great as well. We rebuilt our friendship. He wanted to trust me. We actually helped each other to that next level. It was so great! We lived this great dream. Clark reassured me. His toast at Lex and Helen'd dinner was so great. I know it was his affirmation to me. And then, we shared that magical moment in his Loft. sigh…

Still, Clark was Clark. He'd get close. Then he'd pull away. He kept secrets from me. He was my guardian angel. That's when I started to notice things. Lex swore he hit Clark with his car. After Sasha's bee attack, pipes were twisted and the bees were frozen solid. He somehow found me at the fairgrounds when that sheriff threatened me. He just appeared at the roadside. Then, he rescued me during the twister. The Talon and jail fires? You all know about that. How did he survive Tina? How did he just lift Ian and me with one hand? How did he throw Andy around like a rag doll? How did that symbol or whatever get on the barn?

Questions are so frustrating! ARGH! What was that shockwave that hit Smallville? Why does the Kents' storm cellar look like a bomb went off in it? Why did Clark run away? How could he think he hurts everyone? And WHO the Hell is this Voice he ranted about? Why did he put that stupid ring on?

Clark, why? Where are you? Why couldn't you trust me with this?

eye roll Well, I was about to find out about that Voice. Talk about a major jerk. We thought Byron's folks were abusive? Trust me. The Moores had nothing on Clark's ghost Dad….
