Keefe watched in horror as Sophie was struck by a blast of dark energy. He had to do something. He couldn't let her die. Not like this.
"Sophie!" he screamed, rushing towards her. "No! Please, no!"
He knelt beside her, tears streaming down his face. He could feel her life slipping away, and he knew that he had to act fast.
"Keefe," Sophie gasped, her voice barely above a whisper. "Don't...don't do anything stupid."
But Keefe didn't listen. He knew what he had to do. He had to save her, no matter what the cost.
"I love you, Sophie," he said, his voice shaking with emotion. "I always have. And I always will."
He took a deep breath, then closed his eyes and focused his energy. He could feel the magic coursing through him, and he knew that he only had one shot.
"Sophie, hold on tight," he said, opening his eyes. "This is going to be bumpy."
Before Sophie could protest, Keefe gathered all of his power and blasted them both away from the danger. He felt a searing pain as the dark energy hit him, but he didn't care. All that mattered was Sophie. He had to get her to safety.
They flew through the air, Sophie clinging to him tightly. Keefe could feel her heartbeat, erratic and weak. He knew that time was running out.
"Sophie," he said, his voice shaking. "I need you to know something."
"What?" Sophie gasped, her voice barely audible.
"I love you," Keefe said, his voice strong and clear. "More than anything in the world. And I would do anything to protect you. Even if it means sacrificing myself."
"No, Keefe," Sophie protested, tears streaming down her face. "Don't...don't leave me."
"I'm sorry," Keefe said, his voice breaking. "But I have to. I have to save you."
With those words, Keefe let go of his magic, releasing all of his energy in one final burst. The blast sent them both hurtling towards the ground, but Keefe managed to cushion their fall.
As they landed, Keefe felt a searing pain in his chest. He knew that he was dying. But he didn't care. All that mattered was Sophie.
"I love you, Sophie," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "Always and forever."
And with those words, Keefe's eyes closed, and he slipped away.
