Sophie sat there in shock, holding Keefe's lifeless body in her arms. Tears streamed down her face as she realized what he had done for her.
"No," she whispered, shaking her head in disbelief. "No, Keefe. Please, wake up."
But Keefe didn't stir. His eyes remained closed, his chest still. Sophie felt a pain in her heart that she had never felt before. She knew that Keefe was gone, and there was nothing she could do to bring him back.
"Why did you have to do this?" she cried, looking up at the sky. "Why did you have to sacrifice yourself for me?"
She knew the answer, of course. Keefe had loved her more than anything in the world, and he would have done anything to protect her. Even if it meant giving up his own life.
Sophie held Keefe's body close to her, feeling his warmth slowly fading away. She knew that she had to say goodbye, but she didn't want to let go.
"I love you, Keefe," she whispered, her voice barely above a whisper. "Thank you for everything."
She placed a soft kiss on his forehead, then laid him down gently on the ground. She knew that she couldn't stay there forever. She had to keep going, even though the pain in her heart was almost unbearable.
Sophie stood up, wiping the tears from her eyes. She knew that Keefe would have wanted her to keep fighting, to keep living. And she would. For him.
"I'll never forget you, Keefe," she said, looking down at his still form. "I promise."
With one final glance, Sophie turned and walked away, determined to honor Keefe's sacrifice by living the rest of her life to the fullest. But she knew that she would never forget the boy who had given up everything for her. The boy she had loved with all her heart. The boy who would always be a part of her, no matter what.
