Hello to all of you amazing people for actually taking your sweet time to read my probably trash story! I am so sorry for the first chapter. I edited the damn thing 17 times. I am so sorry that I wish I was kidding. Anyway I can't wait for you guys to read this chapter. This chapter's gonna be sorta of a boring one, this one's more information about Harriet's situation along with the dragon. Don't worry I'm gonna add something for Dumblbedore in the next chapter. I might have him check in on her for the first time because of the devices he has that keep track of her. Now in the first chapter I had obviously written a "somewhat gory scene" so I hope you enjoyed it because there's definitely gonna be more, once again if any of you have tips or suggestions I am willing to hear them. I love learning new things that I might not never understand HA. But seriously give some tips and tricks I'll listen to. Anyway I hope you peeps enjoyed my God awful descriptions but to be honest I have a somewhat flare for the dramatic and excessiveness. Also I've figured out how I wanna do my timeline. I will write about her 2 years growing up but add some small and medium time skips and then do a 1 year timeskip so you all can enjoy the start of an amazing adventure if you like it. Oh by the way I have a little special something in mind for our dragon friend, I'm sure most of you will like it if not…eh not my problem lol. One more thing to tell ya I think that once I get a few enough chapters in I might start on another Harry Potter story and it'll be a crossover that you might never guess. Last thing I've been thinking about doing cross form like I'm gonna put my stories on other platforms such as AO3 and Wattpad. Not gonna lie, kinda nervous about Wattpad. It's been creeping me out a bit nowadays, and I like AO3. It's got a nice community. Anywho now enough of my babbling let's get to what you want to read and that's this chapter. Enjoy my friends!
Disclaimer:Though I pray with heart and soul alas it is not meant to be, therefore I say these words with a sad truth… I don't own Harry Potter nor its characters, or the plot. Except for my own characters and plot.
Chapter 2, Watching The Past and Making A Friend
August 1, 1998
7:54 A.M.
Location Unknown
No one wants to be blinded by the sun the moment it rises, unfortunately not only did Harriet experience that but also her back still stinging from her Uncle, and her entire being sore it had felt like her entire just overworked itself to the bone. Harriet had turned away from the sun and tried to go back to sleep but in doing so while turning over pain had shot through her entire back, making her jolt forward and hiss at the stinging sensation.
She started to open her eyes only to close them after not being adjusted to the light around her, once again she opened them and was now able to see at least a little. But her surroundings were all blurry, and although her vision was blurry she felt like she was in an unfamiliar place. The sounds of groups and what seemed like other entertainments that were taking place. She needed to know what was happening.
"My glasses!" She thought while quickly searching for her glasses to see.
As soon as she found her glasses and placed them back on her face she could finally see clearly, and of course she was right. She had no idea where she was right now the only thing she knew was that she was on a balcony of some sorts, her entire body was dead tired, she was starving right now like she could eat for two, her back was killing her, and lastly she can't even remember at what had happened after she passed out. She tried to remember what happened, she remembered that fight with her Uncle, some sort of black mist and her roaring at it and destroying it, and the last thing she remembered was.
"We are going to live." She remembered it so clearly, some kind of feeling or as if something had just tried to talk to her with emotions.
Before she could think about it any further her stomach gave a loud growl causing her to rub her stomach in order to soothe it. She had to eat something otherwise she'd be having constant cramps later on. Looking at her surroundings she soon saw the chimney that had a pipe leading towards the ground level, and with quick thinking she grabbed the other side of the pipe and while gripping with all her might she had started to climb down the building. Luckily for Harriet the building was only two stories tall, after assuming she was close enough to jump off she had finally decided to wing and jump. She came out with a few scrapes, cuts, and bruises but other than that she was fine, when not really considering that her back was still burning, her bones and joints felt like they were gonna break. Pushing through the pain Harriet had gotten herself up off the ground and began to walk with the crowds of people looking for any signs of a meal that she could get.
After walking for about ten minutes she soon began to smell the lovely aroma of cooking in the building to her right. She looked for a sign of some sort to remember this place, soon enough looking above to her right she saw a sign that had said "Leaky Cauldron". Curiosity had won through her and eventually she went inside it immediately welcoming the warmth that spread across her body, since the fall had started the temperatures have been dropping and last night was freezing even though she had a blanket. When entering inside the building, she saw that the place was packed with people and every table was occupied. To her left was what appeared to be a bar with only a few people sitting at the stools, her eyes soon landed upon a somewhat old man with a balding head only having coming from the sides and back of his head. The old man seemed to be wearing some tuxedo and cleaning several glasses at once.
"Could he be the owner of this place?" She asked no one but herself.
But to her shock she had felt the emotion again but instead of rage this time she felt curiosity coming from it. Wondering the same thing as her with a gentle nudge from the emotion telling her to talk to the man. At first she didn't want to but the growl from her stomach said otherwise. With a small sigh coming from her lips she stood strong and went straight towards the man. She tried not to bump into anyway, carefully dodging some drunken folks she had finally arrived at the little bar and looked at the man. When she had arrived before she could even talk to the old man someone had yelled at him over for a refill, the man put down the glass he was cleaning and headed straight towards the man. Harriet opened her mouth in hopes to stop him but immediately stopped because it seemed like he was very busy today so she didn't want to interrupt him over a meal instead she would wait until she could talk to him, or when he would notice her.
"Eh, I can wait a little longer. The man seems busy enough, don't wanna disturb him. Maybe I can sit down on the stool for a few minutes…who am I kidding? I could sit on that thing for hours, my body is dead tired and my back is killing me. Thank God that I'm not having a headache anymore." She had said to herself again and went to hop on the chair and slouch.
But she stopped feeling once again that damn emotion again, demanding to not wait any longer and eat something now.
"Ok what the hell am I feeling right now. Is somebody there i-in my mind? Am I going crazy or something, please if I'm not crazy don't say I mean feel anything, please." She had asked at first only to plead that she wasn't crazy.
A few seconds went by and she was becoming relieved that she wasn't crazy, only to feel the emotion again only this time it felt like it was laughing at her for believing she was not crazy. Immediately warning bells were going off in her head but before she could freak out, she soon heard the sound of a voice pulling her out of her inner thoughts.
"Excuse me are you ok there lass you been zoned out quite the while, you feeling alright". The man had asked her with a soft voice.
She turned her head in the direction to look at the man only to realize that it was Tom asking her this, she didn't know what to say to him since trying to find out if she was crazy or not (the emotion had laughed at her again when she thought that) she didn't have any time to rehearse of what to say to the man. So instead she stared at him and he stared back, soon enough after the small staring contest Tom was the first to snap out of it and simply asked her again.
"Young lass I'll ask you again, are you feeling ok, and where are your parents? You seem a bit awfully young to be on your own." His voice being calm had helped her gather her thoughts together. After a few more minutes she soon replied.
"I-I was wo-wondering if yo-you have any food to spa-spare, if not cou-could I perhaps work fo-for a meal?" She stuttered a few times hating that she was because it sounded so annoying (she was actually grateful for the emotion this time as she felt a comforting warmth as if she was being hugged, or wrapped around, or something?) and to her surprise the man still spoke with a calm voice.
"I don't exactly give out free meals but if you wanna work for the meal I won't stop ya from that happening besides you look like you need some more meat on ya bones." He told her with an amused voice but soon laughed at his little joke. Though he was worried at why the girl was so small she looked about 5 or 6 years old.
"Thank you sir, what can I start to help around? And do you mind telling me when I can have my meal?" She replied with such relief in her voice. Harriet normally was not eager to help with any chores, especially not now since her body was dead tired. But still she couldn't believe this man was going to give her a meal but her excitement didn't last when she remembered that he could be lying about giving her a meal. The emotion had agreed and was looking at him suspiciously, something about the attitude of the old man threw it off. Why was the old man being nice?
"Now I can see that you're eager to work but no nothing just yet, but for now you can occupy yourself by having some breakfast. You will need your energy and strength for it, although it seems you already have enough energy already Ha!" He had laughed at seeing her so eager to help around with working but still was worried about how thin she was. This was not the first child Tom had come across in his life and almost all of them needed either food, water, a place to stay, or all three. So he didn't mind helping out the young girl since he had helped many children in the past and they've always ended up finding a new home, perhaps he can find a home for her. Harriet had blushed bright red when he had said that. Now that she felt somewhat comfortable with the man her stutter was gone and her nerves a little calm.
"No sir really it's ok I can work right away I wouldn't want to take your kindness for granted." She replied.
"No I will not hear it, you must have some breakfast before working on anything and eating some breakfast will be the start of the day, besides like I said there's nothing to do right now, so consider this your first task then.
Before she could even fight back on how she could work without food, her stomach had let out a loud gurgle and growl making her flush in embarrassment when Tom had snorted at her. "You were saying young lass, I think your stomach disagrees with you." He replied with a humor laced voice.
"Al-alright if you insist." Was all her reply to him. Once again feeling very embarrassed she sat on the stool now burying her face within her arms, while a chuckling Tom went to go make the food for her. While waiting she could feel throughout the entire time of this emotion laughing with Tom at what had just happened. Deciding to take a gamble and try to talk to it.
" Hey emotion or whatever you are I'm glad you find this funny but I don't, I'm so confused at what's going on. Who or what exactly are you? Are you going to kill me or something, or even worse?!" She asked at first only to start panicking thinking that this thing would kill her, but to her surprise the emotion was panicking as well. Without hesitation the emotion had reassured her that it wasn't going to harm her in any way. She didn't believe it at first but she soon could feel the emotion promising to explain itself when they had time to themselves, so she accepted that answer.
"Alright I'll believe you for now but don't get any funny ideas we can talk about what happened tonight or whatever." She said to the emotion, and for it to respond back with that same feeling before. She felt like she was being coiled around her body and squeezing her not too roughly but enough to feel like it was a hug of some sorts, and soon felt a gentle warmth go through her entire body. She gasped at the feeling of liking it as it had felt smooth like gentle silk wrapping around it was a nice feeling making herself and her body to relax even further before working.
After some time Tom had finally returned with a big plate that looked like it could feed two people, she stared at the meal and had slightly drooled at the sight. On the plate there were three sunny side eggs on the far left, to the right of it there were 4 pieces of bacon, next to the bacon were two biscuits that had gravy on them, and to the bottom left of them there were four sausages that were steamy hot. Finally to complete the meal in Tom's other hand was a tall glass of what seemed to look like orange juice. As soon as he set down the food he provided silverware for her and with a satisfied look he backed away and waited for her to eat. Her eyes going back and forth to the food and Tom, with one final look at him, and with a simple nod from him she dove right into the food.
She had tried to look at least with some dignity but she couldn't help herself. The food was amazing, even better than her own, reaching over to gulp down the drink. To her surprise the drink isn't orange juice, at least not one she was familiar with, this was sweeter and tangy not unpleasant but something she wouldn't drink too often. She looked towards Tom with a questioning look and an eyebrow raised. He caught the look and in return was confused but when he saw her eye the drink he merely chuckled.
"It's called pumpkin juice. It was either that or an adult drink which I don't think you're ready for yet. And my oh my were you hungry glad you ate first now didn't ya?" Tom had told her in which received a small smile from the girl.
"It's not too bad actually but it's a bit too tangy for me but still it's good and yes you were right, thank you I shall try to repay you by doing my absolute best. This is the best food I've ever had. If you are willing to give tips on how it's this good, I would like them. Also if you don't mind can you tell me where I am?" She had asked while slowly adjusting to the amount of food she was eating now taking slow bites.
"Of course you are currently at the pub called the "Leaky Cauldron" where I am the owner of this establishment. I will also make sure to tell the chef that you enjoyed the meal." He had begun to tell her, but also glad she enjoyed the food.
"So we were right, he is the owner of this place…wait wait we! Since when do I say WE?! Ok question later learn info now." She thought when she was speaking to the emotion? Speaking of which the emotion had agreed with her and telling her to keep an eye on the man even though he gave them a meal the emotion still didn't trust him. Harriet agreed she was still weary of him.
"It is also the current entrance to the streets of Diagon Alley where you can get all of your shopping done." He continued on, but Harriet had stopped him for a moment.
"I'm sorry Diagon Alley? I've never heard of such a place." She interrupted with a confused voice while setting down her silverware since she had now finished her breakfast. For a moment Tom had seemed to study her, making her a bit uncomfortable.
"Ahh muggle raised I assume?" He asked while not noticing her becoming uncomfortable for sure that she was muggled raised. In return only to get an even more confused look at him.
"Diagon Alley is a place that only us wizards and witches can see. We have a special magical barrier around here that makes muggles can't see or remember this place. Since you can see it, you my dear are indeed a witch." He had proclaimed with nothing but honesty.
Harriet's mind was racing at miles right now trying to understand what she had just been told. Wizards and witches, muggles, magical barriers, being told that she was a witch, it was just too much process. Since she had heard those words her mind raced straight to what her Uncle had always said that magic doesn't exist, not once would she ever agree with her Uncle but something like this couldn't be true. So either this man was down right crazy or he was telling the truth, soon she asked to quickly crush her arising hope that was taking over her mind.
"But magic doesn't exist. It's not real." She replied to his statement but her voice betrayed her making it sound like she was telling herself mostly.
"I can assure you that magic does exist. Ask yourself have you experienced or seen anything strange happen in your life, something that just seemed impossible but yet you still did it." He had told her in a soothing voice. "It sounds like she's been denied the truth all her life. At least now she can know her heritage." He thought to himself.
Harriet wanted to immediately deny such a claim although the more she thought about it the more it seemed just too real. Her disappearing and reappearing during the "Harry Hunting" Chase, her hair growing back in just one night, her teacher's hair changing color out of nowhere, talking to a snake and understanding it, and finally the cage glass at the zoo vanishing only to reappear trapping her cousin in. That was the final straw and with an awed voice she announced.
"I'm a witch, I'm actually a real witch then I can't believe it." Harriet had almost screamed out in joy and she felt the same sensation along feeling the emotion again, but the emotion was becoming ecstatic with joy at this news, it told her it would explain later. Tom looked at the girl now with a bit of pride in his eyes and letting her know her birthright. Deciding to be a bit dramatic, he pulled out of his pockets a lightly wooden stick that had a handle and intriguing pattern. With a flick of his wrist the dishes that were in front of Harriet had begun to rise up in the air and float towards the kitchen since the young lass had been finished for some time.
If Tom's idea was to further amaze her consider it done, Harriet had watched the plates float towards the back. Her mouth was opening and closing like a fish out of water, she couldn't even believe what had just happened in front of her eyes. The emotion was back in full force with the same reaction as her watching through her eyes at what the old man had just done. Before she could even question how any of this was real a gentleman had called Tom.
"Ah another one ready to order, well from your reaction I can see that you are now truly fascinated by my little display." He had told her with a bit of a smirk and with that he had gone to go attend the customer.
After gathering her thoughts she waited for Tom to return to his spot she kept herself busy though with that emotion creature, thing…whatever it was.
"Ok here's the plan, after we are done helping Tom we can go straight to a room or hangout somewhere so we can figure our next course of action. I've just learned that I am a witch and magic is real, still having a hard time believing that." She had hopefully "spoken" to the creature. Much to her relief it had responded to her statement agreeing that they needed more information before discussing the next plan. Soon enough Tom had returned and looked at her for a moment until deciding to speak.
"Alright now that you've eaten and learned something new are you ready to put your work in?" He had told her in a firm voice that he was serious about her working for the meal.
"Yes sir, just tell me how I can be of help throughout the day." Was her response. Tom had given her an approved look before beginning to tell her what her job was.
"Well for starters I would like you to wash the dishes that are in the kitchen and you said that you've cooked before hmm, well in that case you can help our chef out in the back." He pointed to the back of the kitchen where they could see a figure moving around and making food. With a quick nod she jogged to the back and went straight towards the chef. The chef, who was a medium sized woman around that looked to be in her mid thirties wearing an apron that said "Kiss My Arse Witches" stopped and looked at the child in front of them.
"And who're you supposed to be a little straggler?" The chef had asked her.
"I'm here to help out with the dishes and cooking of some, I am repaying back my debt with the owner for giving me a meal." She responded in hopes that the witch had believed her, and thankfully she did.
"Ah Tom fed another one of you eh, alright well you can get started on the dishes first and then I'll show you how to make the food real quick." And with that she had walked off to see what the next order was.Harriet went straight to the sink that had a floating scrubber already washing a plate, with haste she picked up one the was hanging on the counter and dived her hands on the next dish scrubbing it clean and after a hard scrubbing the dish was clean as new.
Timeskip Nighttime,
Leaky Cauldron
6:39 P.M.
The rest of the day went surprisingly well for herself. Harriet after many failed attempts of making the breakfast had finally nailed it down and had successfully made her first restaurant breakfast. Soon after they realized it was already the afternoon, Tom had wanted her to stop but Harriet had asked if she could work for the night in hopes of spending one night in a room. At first Tom wasn't too sure but after some convincing from his chef and shockingly enough some customers had vouched for her saying that her food was delicious. Tom had no choice but to give her a room for three nights, Harriet tried to deny and saying she only needed for one but Tom was prescient and eventually had won. When the lunch rush had hit Harriet put in more work than anyone would have ever thought, if she missed a spot on a dish she'd immediately clean it again.
Harriet soon had introduced herself to Tom and the chef who was named Malory and the two had gotten along great with the little girl. Harriet of course called herself a fake name, dubbing herself as Harriet Pitt. The two had looked at her with shock at first but soon disappeared when she said her fake last name. Once Harriet was in routine, Tom and Malory watched her carefully, the way she was always tense and alert as if expecting someone to attack her. They had tried to get to know her home life but when either of them asked she'd replied with. "It's better if you don't know". The girl obviously had trust issues and that had made both wonder what she had been through.
Eventually night had come and it was now 7:12 p.m. the bar was winding down and the kitchen was closed for the night because of the slowness that was happening. Now Tom, Malory, and Harriet were cleaning up the tables, putting the dishes away, and finally had come together to discuss some matters.
"Alright since I am beat, I made us one final meal for each of us." Malory had said to the other two. "For you Tom, some garlic soup since you've been having cravings for it." To which said man had an offended look and went to retaliate, but thought for a moment and shrugged confirming that she was right. "And you well instead of a giant breakfast, I made you something better. And don't say it's not necessary, business was amazing today thanks to you." She was telling Harriet who was going to try and fight back only to accept defeat, knowing the woman for the past few hours had taught her that Malory was no lady to deny. "This is a BLT sandwich with lots of deli meat in it and some spices I added for you I hope you enjoy." As soon as she had given it to her Harriet went straight to try it only to stop and look at the other two to see if it was ok to. To which they had both nodded their heads, after that she took her first bite and tasted bliss. The sandwich was amazing to eat, all the spices and herbs on it made it delicious.
They had talked for a while until Harriet asked if she could be excused for the night, and they had both agreed to let her go wishing her a goodnight. While climbing up the stairs Harriet thought about the emotion creature and if it was still awake willing to explain itself. To which she had felt a reassurance letting her know that when they settled they would "talk", about well everything. She mostly wanted to know what happened to her relatives, but what she was not accepting was to feel that rage again. The same rage she had felt yesterday, and it only lasted for a second or two before going back to being quiet. Harriet had only this after mentioning her relatives, perhaps something had happened to them and if so she didn't care if she was being honest. Soon enough she had arrived at her room for the next three days.
"Like hell I wasn't going to take that opportunity." She remembered denying this at first but immediately changed her mind once realizing the benefits, gratefully Tom and Malory agreed to let her stay for the next three nights in return she does the exact same thing she did today. Of course she accepted it without hesitation and once again thankful for their kindness, but did she feel the same…no she couldn't.
For some reason she still couldn't trust them even after all they've done for her within the past few hours. It was the greatest hours that she's ever had in life. No one was screaming at her, beating her, or calling her such horrific things no child should hear, and she had finally felt happy for the first time in her life. But yet even with every wonderful interaction with either a customer, or with Tom and Malory she just couldn't trust any of them after going through so many years of being ignored.
Tom and Malory had asked her about her home life, which she quickly told them that it was best if they didn't know. When they had asked that she panicked and thought they would take her straight back to her what was once her hell, she expected them to demand where she lived. But to her surprise they had both stopped asking questions about her home life which made her a little relaxed. Even though they had stopped asking instead looking at her with curious glances, but they also were watching her with worry, she figured that they were thinking she would mess something up. So she tried to do a little better than she usually does.
Having finally reached her room she opened the door to see a small room with only a desk, a singular chair, and a drawer in three of the rooms corners. To the left of the bed there was a door that was opened and revealed to be a bathroom. Seeing the bathroom had sent her into overdrive quickly locking her door and rushing to the bathroom she threw open the curtains and immediately turned on the shower. Steamy fresh hot water poured from the nozzle and began to fill up the small area.
Harriet went to the bed to change out of her clothes only to realize that she was wearing the only pair she had. As if that wasn't bad enough she had completely forgotten about her damaged rags, not showing off the scarring she had underneath but still made her look like some sort of beggar. Her shoes were no better almost to the point of being destroyed. She groaned at the thought that she was wearing these with each customer talking to her probably because she looked homeless.
"Maybe that's why they were so talkative to me, I mean if I saw a homeless child like me I'd talk to them straight away. But still they were all so nice, but what if it was all fake I don't know." With a sigh escaping her mouth, she was brought out of her thoughts by the sound of her door being knocked out. She immediately went to hide since she felt like it was her Uncle coming for her once again. But before she could hide, she heard the voice that belonged to Malroy.
"Hey squirt mind if you come out here for a minute, I wanted to give ya something real quick." She asked from the other side of the door, you could hear the tiredness from her voice and yet she still came to give her something.
"Why is she still up shouldn't she be asleep right now since she's gotta get up early in the morning?" Harriet had thought while walking to the door and unlocking it to open and see Malory holding a pile of clothing.
"Thanks squirt ah we figured you didn't have anything else to wear, which is why I brought ya some clothes that should fit ya just fine. One night pair , some jean's and a t-shirt for tomorrow morning, and lastly a pair of new shoes. That should be enough and don't worry I'll wash yer pjs in the morning and your regular ones at night and once you've finished bathing I can burn those things that you were heh heh." She proceeded to hand her the clothes to which Harriet quickly grabbed them so they wouldn't fall.
"Oh no no no, you don't have to do that honestly it's no worries. And I'm sorry about my appearance. I had completely forgotten about it, I hope you all don't think I was trying to trick you or anything. I promise that I really need a place to stay. Please don't kick me out I can stay one night instead it's fine I swear." Harriet was clutching the pile of clothes close to her chest and was beginning to panic.
"No no no no, sweetheart it's ok believe me you're not the first child we've seen like this. No, we just figured you might've needed some different clothing that's all, and besides consider it a thank you for the help today you've made it a little easier on myself." She told the girl in a soothing voice hoping to calm the panicking child. She reached out gently to rub her arm, but when she had done that she almost had completely missed the flinch from the girl and that deeply worried her. She could see fear in the girl's eyes and was now stiff as a board and taking in shuddering gasp.
Harriet prayed with all her might that Malory had missed her flinch. To which she believed she had thankfully did miss. She wasn't expecting her to rub her arm. While it felt nice as well as her not yelling at her she soon relaxed and looked at the woman and put on a small forced smile.
"Oh thank you, sorry about that I just wanted to make sure that you could trust me." "Yet I can't seem to trust either of you and I don't know why. I want to but I can't tell if their attitude and words are fake or not." "Guess I panicked a little, my apologies and thank you for the clothes. I'm gonna go take a bath now and head to bed. Thank you for the clothes again. I truly appreciate it." Malory, caught off guard by the sudden change of attitude, gave her a soft smile and wished her a goodnight.
With the door now closed and locked again Harriet went over to her bed and set clothes down, she grabbed the pjs that were smooth on the outside but had felt like soft fur on the inside. To say Harriet was excited about having somewhat new clothes she could wait to change into them, she had then looked at her new clothing for the days. It was a black and purple shirt that had some symbols that looked like runes everywhere, and a pair of black jeans, along with purple shoes with black lacing. The shoes also had rune symbols on almost the entire shoe, either it was for looks or this was something more, Harriet did not care she loved them, and the two colors were growing on her. Now she had three favorite colors: Emerald Green, Obsidian Black, and a Void Purple.
Soon enough she had walked towards the bathroom and once inside she discarded her old rags and took the night set with her and closed the door behind her. As soon as she set down her night clothing she saw herself in a mirror that was behind the told froze at the sight. At the center of her chest the knife that Vernon had stabbed her with had left a deep and long jagged scar that started from the top of her chest and to curve down straight to her pelvic area, but what amazed her was the fact it was healing up so fast. Along with her back, it somehow was no longer stinging anymore she figured that maybe it was the magic. But immediately she soon felt the emotion telling her that it was focusing on healing the wounds by manipulating the cells in her body, as well as using some sort of unique feeling of magic.
She smiled and thanked the emotion in return it had asked her to bathe herself so they could "talk". Once she had entered the tub it was pure bliss feeling the hot water wash away the dried up blood, as the water hit her forehead once again washing the dirt and blood off her skin. She stood under the shower head for a few minutes before finally washing her hair and body.
Once she had finished cleaning herself she brushed her teeth and went straight to the bed, but instead of falling asleep she sat with her legs crossed and shut her eyes. It was now time to find out what happened yesterday, and in return the emotion had agreed and soon told her to relax and clear her mind.
"So help me if this doesn't work I will throw a tantrum and don't you say, I don't deserve the right. I thought I was going to die only to wake up on a bloody balcony, and having to listen to you throughout the whole day. But here we go ok." She had spoken to the emotion, in which returned, the thing had promised to tell everything it knew. Harriet began to calm her breathing with her eyes still shut, and her body finally able to relax. Soon after some time Harriet's body went limp and fell back with her arms spread open and getting as comfy as possible, later on one could only hear the sound or her snoring peacefully.
Harriet's Mindset
Darkness was what had greeted her, she couldn't see a thing at all and although she could feel her body much to her relief, she wondered why she couldn't see anything. Desperately trying to adjust to her surroundings she soon heard the sound of fire crackling and a thud from four different corners. Slowly spinning around to look at the fires that were placed in what seemed to be goblets that had a crown patterning. Purple fire had been blazing in each goblet with black tips of ash sparking the air with electricity around her. Once she had taken her gaze away from the goblets, she had soon realized that she could finally see the area and it was something she would never get tired of seeing.
Looking down at her feet the ground beneath her was an obsidian pattern, while mostly being black she could see gray swirls within the surface of the dark area. She could almost see lighting striking seeing that the patterns had reminded her of thunderclouds. Now hearing the sound of water she soon saw water had surrounded her on a small little island, but she could see a forest and flat lands in the distance. Looking to the sky, Harriet was memorized by the sight she was given.
So many stars that burned bright in the sky ranging from the morality of why to a darker shade of purple. But what had captured her the most was seeing what seemed to be the moon only to look more as an eclipse. A white ring that had shown an aura around it, but the circle itself was a violet void crackling with storms and shining the sky with a voidden black, finally seeing a giant aurora borealis that had a silver color.
Suddenly she began to hear water slosh and move. She could see in the water that something big was moving towards her, breaching the surface of the water were a pair of antlers that looked like it could shred her in an instant, and a sharpened tip tail that was swaying lightly. Harriet had soon begun to walk backwards in hopes of the thing not noticing her, but to her dismay the thing was starting to approach her, splitting the water before her eyes. Agonizing minutes went by and her fear growing more, the thing was getting closer and had finally reached the edge of the platform. Minutes had passed by and not one of them moved an inch, Harriet couldn't think straight of the given situation.
Where was she, what was in the water, and what was going on in the sky above her. All these thoughts had been racing through her head. She tried to talk to the emotion in hopes of being able to think of something quick given the situation. But to her horror she hadn't felt anything from it, not even the smallest signs, her worrying horror had increased tenfold in knowing she couldn't feel the emotion. She felt somewhat empty now knowing the emotion wasn't there, thinking it had abandoned her just like everyone else had done in her life. But before she couldn't even fall into even more despair, one of them had finally made the first move. The thing that was once in the water had broken through the water, that had made her jump in fright.
Looking at the thing, no not a thing at all. It was a dragon, a bloody damned dragon. Looking at the dragon in both fear and awe, she tried to move to the side to get a better look, only to have its head follow her movements. Studying the dragon was worthwhile with just its neck and head out of the water, judging the distance of its tail, Harriet could assume that its body was perhaps related to the body of a snake. With one more look again she minorly added to herself that it had looked about 18 feet long and 6 feet tall, much to her amazement at the sheer size of the dragon. But before she could study even further, the dragon started to walk towards her.
Approaching upon the platform, Harriet could feel and hear the ground crack under the weight of the dragon's claws tearing the ground beneath them. Fear back in full force for her as she couldn't move, there was no way she could out run this creature. Closer and closer it was finally in front of her, even though she was terrified she felt some kinship with this dragon. Now fully looking at the dragon one could see that its entire body was covered in metal like armored scales, dripping with water from its body she could see its tail a bit better and had to assume that it was around 5 feet long or so. The dragon had more armored plating from the top of its skull down to its tail bone, the front claws with lean of a young dragon as did its back legs. But looking at its head caused her to look into its eyes, a familiar feeling sparked in her heart when their eyes met.
Staring into its violet eyes she could see a hurricane of storms and lighting clashing around its irises. As for it in return to stare back seeing the swirls of a blazing emerald like fire, and an aura of death within the flames around her irises. Both had stared at each other for moments on end, until the dragon leaned its head forward in order for them to each other at an eye level. Ever so slightly did Harriet raise her hand to touch the dragon only for it to growl at her, making her retreat her hand back. But she would not give up, so instead she somehow found a burst of courage to come forth and she tried again. This time the dragon had slowly moved its snout towards her hand, once hand and snout had connected both had felt the same thing.
As if finding part of one's soulmate or so they had soon been embraced by such a warmth that both didn't want to end. Suddenly memories had flown through their minds which had made Harriet pull her hand back and wince at the sudden memories. Just like her the dragon had backed its head back up and with a shake of its head it turned back to her. With a smile on Harriet's face she announced to the dragon.
"It's you isn't it. You're the emotion I keep feeling that talks to me. You have such a lucky color and look so cool. I mean honestly you look amazing. And you're a bloody dragon that is AWESOME!" She had started off in a soft voice but her excitement and how joy was seeping in her words only to finally burst out.
In return the dragon had the same joyous energy that she was displaying. Soon to be jumping and prancing around her, while she giggled and laughed at the sight of the once terrifying dragon that had now looked like a happy puppy. The dragon soon coiled around Harriet giving her room to move and still see the land and had licked her face leaving her drenched in black ooze like saliva. Crying out in disgust Harriet began to wipe all of the salvia off her cheek, while the dragon had begun to make a warble noise that sounded like it was laughing.
"It's not funny, you know. That was gross bleck, do you even brush or do anything for that breath of yours?" She said with a pout at first but then to smirk and amused grin at the last words. Only for it to look at her with an even greater grin than hers.
"Who or what exactly are you? You did promise to explain what you are and what happened after I passed out." Her joy was now gone, only to be replaced by an urgency to know what the hell was happening to her and why she was seeing this place and dragon. Standing once again in front of her, the dragon soon had bowed its forehead before her. At first confused by the action Harriet soon realized that it wanted her to touch foreheads, closing the gap between. She gently placed her hands along the dragon snout and leaned her head into its. And then again darkness had consumed her sight once again.

Adjusting to the new sudden area, she could see the same area only a little brighter than before. Looking at the place she could feel that the area was dark and full of evil. The feeling had sent a shiver down her spine, but not of fear no, no she could feel power. Soon enough she had seen a figure dash before her eyes. Quickly following its movement she could see that the figure was what had too seemed to be a man surrounded by a darkened mist of smoke. She didn't like this thing nor this place, it felt wrong, unhappy, the anger she felt this time was almost what her scar used to feel like, and filled with such sorrow and despair.
The only thing she could like about this place was the presence of power that she could feel. Looking at the man of mist, she couldn't see any distinguished features of its look. The only thing she could make out of it, was that it had two glowing red eyes that had rage in them. She first thought this was the dragon. However she stopped the thought because the rage that was held in its eyes wasn't the one she felt like from the dragon.
The mist man? Or whatever it was soon let loose a stray blast to the mountains destroying some in doing so, it clearly looked pissed off very much and was now letting out sounds of pure rage. It looked like it was throwing a tantrum of some kind but she couldn't figure out what it was. The thing was just destroying the land for no reason apparently, like a bored child with its toy.
Now looking at the surroundings more it looked as if to be a barren wasteland, decaying walls that seemed to be falling apart, and the withering ground beneath her feet. She had tried to figure out who or what this mist man was, only to soon find her staring at the sky and seeing a giant ball of black ooze and purple flames. The ball of fire split the clouds away and went straight near the creature of mist. With a thundering crash from the ball impacting the ground smoke was rising and she couldn't see anything, after running to the center of the crash she could see a rolled up metal ball.
Wondering about what she was seeing right now, she slowly walked towards the crash site of the object. Only to find that the metallic ball was beginning to uncurl itself, and to her shock it was the dragon she had spoken to. Seeing it now she realized that it was smaller and younger looking than it was now. The dragon slowly observed the unknown area it was in and with a frustrated grunt. Slamming down its clawed hand, it had begun to raise itself up even further, dragging its body out of the crater it was in.
Was she witnessing the birth of this creature right now, if so why? Harriet couldn't think of a reason why this dragon was born within the depths of her mind. And what was with the mist? Man? Man mist? Misty boy? She didn't care about what it was, she just needed information about what the hell she was watching. After a while of thinking, she turned back to watch what she hoped to be an ally for her.
The dragon had finally finished looking around the area it was in, and for its eyes to land upon the mist. It had immediately opened its maw and released a deafening shriek. Harriet had to cover her ears at the sudden sound, she quickly watched the dragon become enraged, noticing it was the same rage she had felt many times. Without any time to process anymore, she had watched the dragon bolt towards the mist thingy.
Tackling it to the ground the mist had released its own shriek that to Harriet sounded quite pitiful in comparison. Recovering from her shock, she quickly snapped out of it and followed the two creatures. Only to find them circling one another and bellowing at each other. The mist was desperately trying to find a way out, but the dragon wouldn't allow it.
Finally after what seemed to be minutes, the mist had fired the first attack launching a beam at the dragon. The dragon had twirled its whole body, and had somehow managed to dodge the beam which led to an explosion behind it. The dragon retaliated by spewing out green fire from its maw. The mist man simply dodged the fire, and started to run to its right while the fire was closely on its trail.
The dragon soon halted its attack and tried to think of a new strategy. A few seconds later the dragon sent chase to the mist in hopes of pinning it down and burning it out of existence. But the mist was faster than it had realized, only a few mere inches it was ahead. The mist had quickly turned around and once again fired another beam, only this time it had connected to the dragon.
When the beam had connected to the dragon's head it was flown back and shook its head. If the mist had an expression it would've been shocked to see the creature, that was right behind itself, tank such a powerful explosion and come unscathed. Once the dragon had collected itself it looked straight at the mist with burning rage, soon enough the sounds of thunder could be heard. The mist had now realized the dragon was going to use its trump card, so it had to use its own in order to survive.
Harriet could only watch in awe of what was happening, then again she still didn't have much of a clue of what was going on. Still though witnessing these creatures clash against one another, she saw the power that they held. Well the power of her dragon friend she knew.
"Wait, are we even friends? Actually just what exactly are we to each other? Is this some sort of symbiotic relationship? If so, how does it even work exactly?" So many questions were running through Harriet's mind, she hardly remembered that there was a fight going on.
Eventually a shriek had stopped her thoughts, and she whipped her head up so quickly one might think she had whiplashed herself. Looking back at the two, she could see that both were channeling some sort of energy. To her left, the mist man's hands were covered in a bright green; just like her eyes and the dragon's fire. To the right of her, she saw the dragon's mouth open, swarming with purple and black lighting sparking off of its teeth. Its throat was glowing brightly, meaning it was ready to unleash its power.
Harriet still could only watch the display she was given. Now of course she was scared but not really. She was just an audience to what she could see before her. After all of this she was going to demand answers from the dragon itself.
What seemed to be minutes passing by, in reality only a few seconds had passed. Within the last moment, silence was all she heard. No wind, or thunderclouds rumbling, the energy that had hummed from the man mist was quiet, and last the dragon's growls were silent. Until all of a sudden both had released their attacks. Crackling the air once again by the sheer force of the energy, the attacks had collided with another. A shockwave had occurred blowing dust and dirt away from the two.
Harriet's hair had been blown to the back of her head, as the wind had attacked her with the dust. Shielding her eyes she tried to quickly look back at the two, but the dust was not helping no not at all. Finally after getting through the dust storm attack, she hurried herself closer towards the two. When she saw them again, the sight she was seeing, was never to be forgotten in all her years.
The beams were still at full force and they were on equal stands. The mist's hands were covered in green fire, the fire was blazing at the end of the other beam and was almost being pushed back. The dragon's attack seemed to be similar to the mist's, only to be a giant purple lightning bolt surrounded by black lightning, striking the ground around it. The eyes of the mist held frustration at the fact that the dragon's attack was on equal terms of its own. The eyes of the dragon held the same feeling but had a rage that burned fiercely into the attack.
Harriet watched in pure amazement of the two attacks. Although the mist seemed to be a little mediocre compared to the dragon's. And no she was not showing favoritism to her new friend or ally or dare she hoped maybe be part of a family. One would say that seeing such a sight would put terror in one's mind. But not Harriet, no she still stood in amazement at the power that was being witnessed.
She desperately wanted to have something like that. The pure confidence that the dragon had in its stance while unleashing its attack. She wanted to have the power that the mist had, but then again now it was looking weaker than it did before. She could beg, plead, cry, throw a tantrum, or anything just to have that. But she knew it was for not, because why would anyone or anything want her to have this. Everyone she had met always toyed with her feelings.
Everyone she had known would always look at her with disgust and resentment in their eyes. All would avoid and mock her, just because she had no one that wanted her nor to love her. But the ones she hated the most, were the ones that took enjoyment in watching her despair. The ones that would speak of promises about friendship, caring, trusting, understanding, and love. She had fallen for them many times in her life and soon had forced herself to never trust anyone again.
The trust and love she had given them was all she ever really had. And they simply enjoyed crushing it infront of her. How many times had she given them everything just in return they give her the same thing. She didn't want money, fancy places, being famous, or having everything. All she ever wanted in return…was for someone to love her the same way she would. The more she thought about her past the angrier she became. What she hadn't realized was that the dragon was now covered in lightning sparking the air itself.
The enraged roar was what broke her out of her thoughts. Looking straight back up at the dragon she could see its body tensing up with rage. Pushing itself forward the dragon had started to make an advance to the mist creature. The beams that were at once equal power; were now becoming indifferent to each other. The dragon's lightning bolt was now pushing through the mist's fire, and had slowly been making the distance close between them.
The mist's eyes were now fractionally looking for a way out of this losing battle. "Honestly, the fact that it managed to survive this long is astounding." Was the only thing Harriet could think of while watching the mist begin to walk back. The mist was losing its footing, it could only watch as the dragon was coming closer and closer. Finally in a desperate attempt to live, the mist had jumped to the side ending the collision of beams. The dragon, now finally able to put this thing to end. But the mist had quickly brought both of its hands and fired a red ball of energy to the side of the dragon. In doing so the explosion had rocked the earth beneath the dragon making it stop its attack and jump to a new area.
Recovering itself, the dragon had looked everywhere for the mist only to see it had begun to run in an opposite direction. The dragon could not believe it, the damn thing was running away and not wanting to quickly end this fight? It was unacceptable. It was stupid. It was…
"WHAT A FUCKING COWARD!!" Harriet had bellowed at watching the scene.
She could not believe it, all the build up, all the dramatic entrances and what not. Only for it to turn tail and run for the hills. She looked at the dragon, she snorted at the expression it had. The dragon was still looking in the direction the mist had run off to, not even blinking at the sight. Harriet was about to see if this was the end of something, only to soon cover her ears at the sound the dragon had made. Echoing throughout the entire known area, a shriek, shrill, growl, or what better to describe it a deafening roar. The roar lasted for about thirty seconds and once it had finished venting its rage, it had started to run in the same direction the mist had gone. While watching the dragon run off, Harriet had finally realized what she was seeing.
"This was the moment you were born weren't you?" She said to no one but the air.
Soon enough she had seen the dragon she was familiar with looking at her with such excited eyes. Before she knew it, she was back to the same small island surrounded by water and the purple skies that were filled with silver lines. Both had brought their heads away from each other and only looked at each other for a few moments. Staring in the eyes of each other, Harriet started to wonder why it was created. But all of sudden her mind began to receive memories…and they weren't her own. The memories of the dragon searching for the mist, of it trying to send comforting emotions when she had received a punishment, of it always saying it wouldn't leave her when others would tell her, and finally the memory of it always guarding her like a parent would for a child. She finally felt all the love and warmth it had been sending her for all those years.
"Y-yy-yo-you w-wer-were al-always th-the-there fo-for me." Harriet sobbed out but the one thing that both had noticed when she said this…she still had not cried.
Her voice was breaking, yes but the tears that wanted to come out just weren't something that was willing them away. It was because she didn't want to be seen weak in front of someone strong. The dragon had not sent her anything this time, but only for it to wrap around her telling her it was there. Harriet was very thankful for the "hug" it was giving her, but she didn't want to be in despair; she wanted more information. Recovering from her supposed little breakdown, she looked to the dragon and gently put a hand on its snout. The dragon purred at the contact, having finally to be with its host once again.
"I really want to ask more questions but it's getting late and I have to help Tom and Malory tomorrow. But still I want some things answered before I drift off." She demanded by stamping her foot in order to get the dragon to understand how serious she was.
But it only looked so adorable especially with the little puffs in her cheeks as if she might start pouting. The dragon had pulled its head back and nodded. It looked in her eyes again, asking her what she wanted to know.
"Ok I'll start off easy then what exactly are you and why were you created?" Was her first question. The dragon in response could only show her a memory of a voice calling it.
"But that still doesn't explain anything. Ok, let's try something else since I figured that first one was a long shot. You don't even speak, wait can you learn to speak to me?" Was all she asked.
The dragon had a thinking posture and sat for a while. It appeared it didn't know either if it could. Harriet put that question and future possible task aside for now.
"Ok how about this then. Were you created to protect me from something?" A nod was given to her. "So you were made to protect me, but from what? Anyway what about the mist? It looks like you held a grudge from that thing." A simple hiss and growl was all she got. "Oh what about magic? Are you something from magic or whatever?" She had expected a nod from it, but to her surprise it had shook its head.
"What do you mean you weren't created by magic? Who created you then I don't understand?" She asked the dragon, but received no reply this time.
"Alright then what about my injuries? You said or sent something to me letting me know it wasnt magic, but you healing me." She hoped to get an answer from this question, and thankfully magic was smiling at her.
The dragon had simply straightened its stance and looked deeply in her eyes. Harriet soon felt the emotion again, and for her eyes to look disbelieving at the dragon.
"You can't be serious?" She said, to it.
A nod.
"But that's not possible. How can you say that?"
Another nod again.
"So…you're really a part of my soul to me?"
Once again a nod from it.
"You know if you hadn't shown me you're fighting with the mist. Or if Tom had not made me believe in magic. I would tell you that is the stupidest thing I've heard in my life." Was her reply. Only to get smacked in the back of her head lightly but the dragon.
"Well can you blame me?! How can someone mess with a soul or even have something a part of it?!" She exaggerated.
All she received was a simple lopsided limp of its head.
"OK ok ok I'm sorry you are a part of me always will be." She hoped that would soothe the beast and luckily it did.
After a while she continued to ask more questions that the dragon could answer to its best ability. Instead of asking more descriptive questions, Harriet had asked simpler ones like if it had a favorite food; to which it shook its head. She asked more and more in hopes of getting to know the dragon. Luckily she did, although it had not said anything in response its simple gestures were all she needed. And in doing so the dragon would often send her some way of asking its own questions, like if she had any favorite foods or if she was comfortable being around it. To which she had no to the food subject and surprising yes to the other one. It felt nice to talk to someone or in this case somethings, good lord she needed answers badly.
After an hour or so the two had grown a little closer than they had realized. Harriet soon had yawned signaling the dragon that she was exhausted now. The dragon had curled around her again and had left her rest upon itself. But another simple question kept Harriet awake.
"Wait, how does it make sense if I already fell asleep in the outside world?" She asked her new friend; oh such a foreign word to her yes. Only for it to reply by sending a ("Do not question it.") For it to was tired as well. Which had gotten a small laugh from her.
"Oh wait one more question actually two more I swear and promise plllleeeeaasseee." She practically begged the poor creature, hitting it with a puppy eye act. Growling to itself, the dragon raised its head again and looked at her.
"Ok first I never asked and I'm really sorry for not. But what is your name, do you have one?" A tilt of her head was included with this question. And to her surprise it shook its head at her.
"Would you like one then? I can't call you an emotion or dragon all the time, now can I?"
The dragon was now again awake vibrating with joy at the thought of a name for itself. Nuzzling its head against her own , making her squeal in delight. Once she pushed the dragon off she adopted a thinking posture.
"...How about Tiamat, you know the Mesopotamian goddess?"
A shake of its head was her answer.
"Draco?"
Nope not it.
"Toothless?"
Not even close.
"How about Zoltar?" She proclaimed in a dramatic fashion, and wispy voice.
An unamused look was all she received. After spending five minutes throwing out names, now she seemed to be giving up (It was insulted when she offered America.) About to throw in the towel she came up with one final name for it, a name later on that would be burned into the soul of each other.
"Alright then how about…" Her thoughts stopped and eyes glazed. She spoke with a knowing voice.
"Nyx."
A sudden force had been put upon their souls as the name shook them with power. But to them a shiver was all Harriet felt and the dragon purred in delight at the name.
"Well it was about time. If I had known you were such a difficult creature I would've waited until tomorrow." Her posture now relaxed, man she was tired now to much brain power in the middle of the night. But now for the final question she had for the dragon now named Nyx.
"My last question is… what happened when I blacked out?" Her voice now seemed so small asking the question.
Nyx had felt like it was frozen, it wasn't expecting this question. It couldn't tell her now after finally having a chance to be together. So with a heavy soul it only looked at her and sent the feeling it would tell her tomorrow morning or later in the day after work. Harriet wasn't happy with the answer and now she was worried. She wanted no need to know what happened because every time she tried to remember something had blocked her from knowing.
"I don't like being kept in the dark, but for now I'll wait. I'm bloody exhausted right now so you're right let's go to sleep." As much as Harriet wanted to know, she could wait a few more hours in knowing.
Nyx was happy about her understanding and had laid next to Harriet. Harriet made herself as comfortable as possible which was surprisingly well considering the area she was in. Nyx had passed out, Harreit moments from doing the same had finally felt something she didn't ever expect to feel again. Hope. But she squashed it down immediately. Hope only leads to more despair for her. Finally closing her eyes she once again embraced the feeling of sleep and dream about the future. Still she couldn't wait to see what the future had for her. If only she knew how much she would receive in the distant future.
Authors Note
Holy moly that was a pain for me. Sorry for the wait my dear friends, my mind has been all over the place. Anyway this chapter I tried to speed a few things up such as magic. I mean she was going to find out soon I just made it three years earlier. Now I had made a "battle scene" to which I hoped was good cause that was the first ever one I had written, and there's going to be more in this Woohoo. Anywho as for the mindset of Harri's it is going to be the birthplace of her mind training later on so it'll appear in future chapters not all the time though. I think I have more I wanna say but I can't think of it cause I'm freaking tired. The next chapter is going to cover the situation of Harri's disappearance so I'll try to get that out soon. Once again I applaud your ability to read this story, my writing skills are not good whatsoever and I know it, but still I hope you all enjoyed the chapter and can't wait to hear your thoughts on the next one. Till then toodles.
