Chapter 4
"This is a lot to take in." said Tyrone, as he sipped his glass of water in the kitchen. The Mothman stood where he was, outside the door.
"I know. A giant hairy beast coming to your house to tell you about something unbelievable. Believe me, I've appeared before many a mere mortal only to see them wet their pants at the first sight of me." said the Mothman, slightly chuckling. He had no mouth, but he was large, fuzzy and black all over. He had those piercing red eyes that seemed to stare into your soul and his hands, if one were to call them that were large fuzzy black hands. Indeed, he was a giant bug.
Despite his otherworldly appearance, he seemed somewhat friendly and fatherly. Tyrone walked up to him slowly. "If you know what's going on, who's the Bogey Man?" he asked.
"I don't know the answers Tyrone. I can only see visions." said the Mothman.
"What kind of visions?" asked Tyrone.
"I see visions of you crying and hurting. And the little boy at the hospital… he's having terrifying nightmares. Everything he is seeing, I am seeing. In one nightmare, he's crying tears of blood and his eyes explode. In another, he's seeing zombies come to life and mauling people alive." said the Mothman.
Tyrone felt chills. "Is he doing this to him?" he asked.
"I do not want to make assumptions." said the Mothman.
Tyrone put down his glass and turned to the Mothman. "You have a lot of explaining to do. If I'm going to save the boy, I demand answers." said Tyrone.
"I understand your frustration." said the Mothman
"Let me get this straight and correct me if I'm wrong. You see visions, and you warn people about them?" asked Tyrone.
"Correct. It is a power that even I myself can't explain. There are many who possess the power of visions. But we remain in hiding. It is mostly common among Mothpeople." said the Mothman.
"Moth People? There are more of you?" asked Tyrone in surprise.
"It appears I do have a lot of explaining to do. But in order for me to tell you all about the hidden world that lives underneath your very nose, you must save the boy first. His nightmares are getting stronger. I fear that if he suffers a much stronger one, he will surely die." said the Mothman with urgency in his voice.
Tyrone's eyes widened and pictured the boy in bed. Of course, he didn't know what the boy looked like, but he imagined him in bed, tossing and turning from nightmares. In fact, he pictured himself having nightmares and not waking up from them.
"Mr. Mothman, is there something that can help me get to the hospital? Like, in a matter of minutes? The trip from here to Portland is no easy feat. I don't have a car, and the bus hours are very convoluted. Is there something that can take me there immediately?" asked Tyrone.
The Mothman didn't say a word for a moment, until he folded both his arms. "I do know a way. But Tyrone, should you do this, you realize you and possibly the boy you rescue will be entering a world full of secrecy. You will make strong oaths and such." said the Mothman.
"Secrecy? Look, I don't want to sound obnoxious, but this I will tell you. A kid's life is in danger, and you claim he's dying from nightmares. I'll go and wake him up and maybe do something. I don't know what, but I will save him from whatever is hurting him. And if that bastard of the Bogey Man or whatever the hell he is, tries to get in my way, he's either getting himself a knuckle sandwich, or I'll simply kick his ass. And you will tell me what the hell's going ON!" said Tyrone with determination.
The Mothman had no mouth, but he did express in a way that would appear to be smiling. "And this is why you are the one to save the boy," said the Mothman.
"What now?" asked Tyrone.
"All in good time." said the Mothman.
