Loud crashes of thunder could be heard outside of Luz's window, which were followed up by a flash of light a few seconds later. This was a "thunderstorm", as Luz told Amity. Amity had never experienced one before, as the boiling isles didn't have lightning. Amity may have wanted to learn more about thunderstorms if they didn't commit the grave sin of canceling her date with Luz. Although, the storm was kind enough to wait for amity to at least arrive at her girlfriend's house before starting.
"This is such bullshit!" Cried an upset Amity. Amity had spent all day getting ready for this date. She spent hours making sure her hair and makeup were 100% perfect, as well as a few more hours finding the perfect outfit. Luz was also dressed up, with some subtle makeup on, as well as the suit/dress hybrid she had worn during Grom.
Luz desperately searched around her room for something to do while they waited out the thunderstorm. However, Luz and Amity had already done everything Luz could offer countless times. The two were in their mid twenties had been dating for years at this point, and spent a lot of their free time together.
As Luz finally gave up and went to sit back down, Luz heard possibly her least favorite noise of all time. Crying. Luz's head jolted behind her only to find Amity's face already covered in tears. Luz rushed over to her Sweet Potato as fast as she could and embraced her.
Before Luz could get a word out, Amity began talking through sobs. "Tonight was supposed to be our special night! Everything was supposed to be perfect!" "Hey, hey, try to calm down. There's always other nights. Plus, we're still here together. That's gotta mean something." Luz responded in an attempt to cheer her "awesome girlfriend" up. (as Amity liked to called herself, which Luz wholeheartedly agreed with)
"Tonight was going to be special though. We haven't had a real date in a long time. Plus, with how much I've been swamped in work, I don't get to spend as much time around you as a I want to anymore."
After Odalia officially severed her ties with Blight Industries, as well as any chance at salvaging her marriage, Alador needed help running the company. Edric and Emira had already opened up their own small joke shop, which left Amity as the only heir to the company. Amity loved working with abominations, but she also hated how much of her free time it sapped away from her.
Luz had no idea what to say, so she said nothing. She simply sat next to Amity, comforting her through what seemed like never ending tears. This continued for a few minutes until Luz had an idea. Luz planted a small kiss on Amity's cheek and told her to stay put, as she had a surprise.
Luz rushed out of the room and down the hall. She grabbed the ladder she kept near her attic and carefully positioned it underneath the attic door. After rummaging around in the attic for a minute, she found what she was looking for. A record player and a record. It was old, dusty, and exactly what Luz was looking for.
After carefully making her way down the ladder and back up the hall, Luz reappeared in her bedroom door, record player in her arms. Amity looked up, and tilted her head somewhat, not know what strange contraption Luz was holding. "Oh! You don't know what this is! This is a record player. It's how humans played music before we had phones and mp3 players. This is the record player that's been passed down through my family. My Abuelo and Abuela danced to it all the time, as well as my mother and father. I think it's time we had our turn as well."
It took the pair a minute to get in position, but once they did, the two began to dance. While the song played, the only thing that existed in each lovers world was the other. The two moved in perfect sync, their feet never getting in the others way. The entire time, Amity and Luz stared into each other's eyes, both wondering how they got so lucky as to find each other and to be with each other at that exact moment.
After a bit, the music finally faded out. The duo stopped dancing, but neither could bring themself to let the other go. They just stared at each other with love, hoping the moment never ended.
