The Kalkara, the kings of the Wargals, magical beasts of the land of Araluen, originally there were five. But two died, the first, his hide had frozen, the next, flames from his fire meant to keep him warm licked his hide, causing him to burst into flames which destroyed him. But one, Depeonaux, rose up and found the way to keep himself warm and stay away from flames which could easily destroy him. The other two Kalkara who lived with him took him as their leader and shaman. Depeonaux became the king of all magical beasts.

The five Kalkara were originally Wargals, but one of them, Bob, who would later become Depeonaux, found a beautiful crystal deep in a cave. He coveted it, but was unwilling to take it all for himself. So he went to his friends and said, "Come friends, for I have found something that we can all share." Jasper responded, "This better not be like last time. Nobody wanted that rock that looked similar to a duck."

So his friends went with him deep into the cave to where the crystal was. Together they tried to rip it out of the wall, but upon touching it there was a magical blast. The mountains they lived in were full of magic, and this crystal was the reason for it. The crystal had created the Wargals when it had been put there by the gods, who had imbued it with magic. When it was put there, it started taking influence over the place and had turned all of the animals of the mountains into beasts warped by magic, which became known as Wargals.

When the five woke up from the blast, they saw each other and realized they were not Wargals, but different creatures. They saw that their bodies had a stronger and more sturdy look to them than the Wargals, so they agreed with Jack on what they should call themselves. He had said, "We should call ourselves Kalkara." Kalkara in their language meant powerful.

The Kalkara, when getting used to their bodies, suffered two deaths which terrified the other Kalkaras. The first was Jasper. He was exposed to the cold for only the amount of time he used to use for his hunts, but his hide froze. He was unable to move and fell, causing his body to shatter, killing him. After him, Jack died. Jack had witnessed Jasper's death and had found the way to make fire. So Jack was sitting by his fire keeping warm when the fire flickered out and licked his hide. His hide burst into flame and the fire exploded out, becoming so large it flew out of the mouth of his cave. When it was gone, all that was left of him was the ashes on the floor.

Joe, one of the other Kalkara, saw this and called a meeting with Joseph and Bob, the other Kalkara. Joe said, "We have a problem. I was in Jack's cave earlier and all he had in there was wood for his fire. I went outside to get food for both of us and when I came back there was a sudden explosion and flames came billowing out of the cave entrance. When I went in there, all that was left of him was the ashes on the floor." Joseph queried, "How is this a problem?" Joe responded, "He didn't have anything else in there, meaning his hide is what caused that fire to explode out that way." At this Joseph went completely silent when he realized the implications of that sentence. To be able to survive the cold they needed the fire, but apparently the fire could

kill them just as easily.

One year later Bob found them the way around their problem: silver. One day as Bob was preparing food, his pot hanging over the fire warming, him in the corner cutting his meat, an earthquake struck. During the earthquake silver on the ceiling broke off and fell into his pot.

When he went back to put his food in the pot, he saw the melted silver. When he went to get it out of the pot it flowed out like water, moving in a consistent way. But when he put his hand near it he could feel the warmth it gave off. Here he had found a way to warm himself that had predictable movements and that he could carry around, giving him more time outside of his cave where he could do things like hunt or converse with the Wargals. He then brought the "protection" as he called it to Joseph and Joe who thanked him for this new improvement and they said to him, "You have done great works for us and given us what we need to survive, so from now on we will call you, Depeonaux." Depeonaux in their language means "great king" or "king of all."
