"She refuses to come out, madame."
Irene huffed. It had been like this ever since the incident. Erza never came out of her musty room. Irene tried coaxing her with jelly - her favorite sweet dish. Unfortunately, the boy's name was also Jelly-something.
Irene still couldn't believe it. Erza never disobeyed her. Never. It must've been the boy's fault. That's right, it was all the disgusting werewolf's fault.
The maid bowed to Irene and left. She watched the maid's disappearing silhouette, a thousand things going on in her head. She had work to do, she couldn't wait for Erza all day, so she proceeded to go out and do her job as a Heavenly Knight.
The sun had begun to set in Heaven. Irene had just finished her daily patrolling. The daily patrolling is run by the Heavenly Knights to see if there has been any new dark angels. Angels are easy to turn dark as they only have to think of a bad thought - such as stealing. Other creatures have to do it to become dark but since Angels live in Heaven - a prestigious place filled with kindness - they turn dark if they think about it.
Irene had made her mind. She would talk to Erza, make her see some sense. The world they lived in forbid Angels to associate with dark creatures. It made some sense too. Being with dark creatures means that Angels had a higher chance of harboring an evil thought. It made sense and yet, Erza broke the rule.
Maybe Irene needed to tell her the story of Mavis and Zeref again.
Irene knocked on Erza's door.
No answer.
She sighed. "It's me, Erza, your mother."
No answer.
Irene turned the handle which was - surprisingly - unlocked. She proceeded to go in to meet an empty room with the window open. A chilling breeze swept over.
Erza was gone.
The sun was setting. How beautiful it was! But, alas, little Erza was not enjoying it.
No, she was still despairing over the loss of her only friend.
Jellal.
Oh, how she wished none of that happened! The moment was so clear in her eyes. Jellal's glowing copper eyes disappearing in the darkness. He was gone. Would she ever find him again? And, even if she did, would he forgive her?
'No,' she knew, 'he wouldn't.'
And it hurt her heart whenever she thought that.
She knew why her mother got so mad that she was socializing with a werewolf. It was because he was dark. Because he was a werewolf. Because it was forbidden for Angels to associate with dark creatures.
Maybe, Irene even feared that Erza would fall in love with a werewolf.
Maybe, she already had fallen in love.
'That's right!' She realized with a start. 'I have fallen in love.'
But, it was forbidden. Forbidden for any creature to fall in love with another. And yet, Erza couldn't help herself.
She needed to change it.
Change the view of the entire world. Falling in love isn't a wrong thing. It never was. Just because Zeref and Mavis had bad luck doesn't mean she would. Heaven knows whether Zeref and Mavis even existed!
But how?
How would she change it?
Perhaps, Laki would know.
Laki is an Angel. No one likes her though, mostly due to her appearance. She always wore a red cloak covering her face. She was creepy. And a fortune-teller. Perhaps a fortune-teller would know how to change the view of the world.
And so, Erza opened the window and jumped out, running towards Laki's residence.
"My, my." A lavender-haired lady whispered to herself. "What have we here?"
She peered into her crystal ball.
"Irene's daughter..."
Erza knocked thrice on the wooden door.
She waited.
And waited.
Until a faint 'Come in!' was heard.
Erza opened the door and went in to the dark, musty room. It smelled like... lavenders. Soothing yet strong. Erza hissed when she ran into something.
"Over here!" It was a female voice - probably Laki. She sounded so soothing... yet strong... like the lavender.
Erza made her way to another room filled with candles. It gave the room an orange glow. In the middle of it there was a desk. A desk with a crystal ball. And sitting on the chair was Laki herself.
"What can I do for you, Irene's daughter?" Laki's voice was cream.
Erza gulped. This place was giving her the creeps. She needed to get away as quick as possible. No, she shook her head, she needed answers.
"I-I need help..."
"Oh? Help with what, precious?" Laki's eyes glowed brightly.
"I want to change the world's view on loving other species." Erza was surprised and proud for not stammering.
Laki laughed, the laugh resonating around the room. "You've fallen in love at such a young age?"
"Yes."
She stopped laughing. "I can help you, dear. But, you must give me something in return."
Erza inhaled sharply. "What do you want?"
"An eye. I want one of your eyes."
"...Very well." Erza reached out her hand, a small dagger appearing. Just as she was about to pierce her eye, Laki spoke again.
"Wait! I shall tear it out, child. Your dagger will ruin things."
"Alright. Now, tell me."
"A glass pearl exists." Laki spoke, her crystal ball glowed faintly. "A glass pearl that can grant any wish. Wish for whatever it is that you want and it will grant it."
"Where can I find it?"
Laki's eyes held mystery. "In the Deep Blue. You can find it in the Deep Blue. Not now, it is not yet in the Deep Blue. But it will be, soon. Wait and wait, child. Patience will grant you any wish."
Erza bowed and walked towards Laki. "You may have my eye."
With a swish of her hand, Erza's right eye was in her hand.
"Pleasure doing business with you."
"Same to you."
With that, Erza left.
"My child, my precious child!" Irene hugged Erza so tight, she couldn't breathe.
"Mother."
"Where were you? And, oh the stars, where is your right eye?"
"I-I went out for a walk and someone took it." Erza lied. A horrible lie and she was sure Irene would never believe it.
And she didn't believe it.
"Be honest, Erza."
"I-I-I saw Laki." Her voice was barely above a whisper.
"What? You saw her?"
"Yes, mother."
"What for?" Irene gestured for the nurse to come and treat Erza's wound.
"Reasons." Erza refused to tell.
"Er-"
"Mother, my life is mine and mine alone. I would appreciate it if you didn't meddle in my affairs."
Irene was stupefied. "But, I am your mother!"
"And mothers grant wishes. So grant me mine, Mother."
Without realizing it, Erza and her mother grew more and more apart. As the years went by, Erza saw her mother as no more than a stranger. The wound in Irene's heart grew and grew until there was nothing left.
The relationships were destroyed.
Forever.
Years later, Erza will become a Heavenly Knight.
She will change her name from Erza Belserion to Erza Scarlet, in remembrance of her first friend and love.
She will go on a journey to the Deep Blue, making friends that will last a life-time.
She will grow out her hair, one part covering her right eye.
She will change the views of this world.
Definitely.
