This story follows "Things Change" and is another installment in my Deatheater's Redemption series. It is definitely overdue and will pick up with Buffy's and the Malfoy's POV and continue giving more information about the rest of them. If you have not read the other stories, do not start with this one. Please begin with my story "Buffy's Real Home" that begins this series.
I am starting this sequel before Xander and Anya's wedding from Buffy's POV.
Disclaimer: I do not own Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Harry Potter and their characters
Chapter 1: Always Home
*****Malfoy Manor*****
Buffy was very excited because Xander and Anya's wedding was in two days and her dad had finally agreed that she and Dawn be allowed to attend. However, he insisted that he accompany them.
Willow and Tara were already at her house, adding their weight to Buffy's argument.
"I assure you, sir, that I can protect your daughters from anything that may harm them," Willow said. Her time at Hogwarts had not only cleansed her of her addiction to dark magic so that she had no black in her eyes or hair anymore, but she had finally relented and begun to use her wand.
"Like I need anyone to protect me!" Buffy exclaimed, offended at the idea.
Willow grinned and gave her a wink while Dawn giggled.
Lucius could feel the woman's power as soon as she came through the family's wards, and he did not trust her with his daughters. When he first met her, she had given off Dark Lord vibes. Now her power was more muted on the dark magic end, but he could still sense it. Once a person digs so deep into the dark magic end of the pool, they will never be completely free. The pull of the hellmouth would be there to seduce her and taint her magic once again. No way would Lucius ever trust that witch with his daughters.
"Dawn is our baby," Narcissa said. "She will not go without Lucius. It is me who has requested that of him. I saw your memories, Elizabeth. That place is exceedingly dangerous, and no place for my precious baby! It is bad enough that you lived in such a place. I do not want either of you to return there. You ask too much of me!" She stood up from the dining table where they were gathered as Willow and Tara had joined them for lunch.
Dawn's eyes filled with tears as her mother never lost her composure and to see her do so now rattled her and filled her with guilt. "It would probably be better if I didn't go," she said. "Mother is very upset. I don't want her to be."
"If Dawn's not going, then I want to go," Draco said eagerly. He had only heard about the things his warrior sister faced. His mother and father had seen it in her pensive that they would not allow him to view it. Now, of course, he knew that his baby sister knew all about the hellmouth and where Buffy was from because she was actually from that place, too. He hated feeling so left out.
Dawn left the table to go comfort her mother while Buffy wrestled with her own guilt. However, she pushed it aside. Dawn had not been raised here or even on the hellmouth. Although their mother had been told that, she did not feel it. Unlike Joyce, she did not have a brain tumor to give her brain any moment of clarity. It was good, though, to be wrapped in a mother's love. Both her and Dawn were happy being a Malfoy.
Lucius considered his son's request. Experience in his daughter's world would be something that would shape his son forever. It would give Draco insight into his slayer sister, who was often a mystery to Draco. His mother would not like it, but Lucius would be there to protect him. If Dawn was staying, then his wife might be in agreement if he allowed it.
"If your sister's friend would not find it objectionable since we are not actually invited guests," Lucius said, looking inquisitively at Buffy.
"Oh, Xander and Anya won't care," Buffy said, excited that she would get to show Draco all her favorite places.
"Anya would be ecstatic if you bought an expensive wedding gift 'cause she's down with the avarice," Willow said, smiling.
Lucius was confused for a moment as he worked to decipher the woman's confusing speech until his daughter explained.
"Anya loves money," Buffy added.
Lucius smiled. "Of course, we would never be so crass as to show up to a wedding without the proper gift," he stated.
Draco was a bit shocked that his dad wasn't automatically dismissing his request and gave his sister a beseeching glance. "Are you going to allow me to attend?" he asked.
"It would be very much okay for Draco to attend," Buffy added. "I will make sure he stays safe."
"As will I," Lucius said, giving his daughter a fond smile.
"I can go?" Draco asked excitedly.
"You may," Lucius agreed. "However, I will be the one to tell your mother."
"That is fine," Draco agreed. He had no desire to upset her anyway.
"Oh, let's go pack," Buffy suggested. She looked at Willow. "Will, do you think he should bring his new sword and crossbow or just the crossbow?"
Willow considered the question for a moment and said, "Crossbow. He's too young and inexperienced to get close enough to use a sword," she said.
"Good point," Buffy said, grinning.
Draco felt a bit of trepidation as his sister all but dragged him toward his room.
A few hours later, he was standing next to Professor Snape as the demon opened the portal to another world.
"Don't have too much fun without me!" Dawn told him, hugging him goodbye.
"I won't," he promised.
"Give Spike a hug for me," Dawn told Buffy.
"I will," she said.
"Angel, too," Dawn said. "And Xander. And Giles. Tell them I miss them."
"I will Dawn," Buffy said. "Xander is coming here, though, remember?"
"Oh, yeah, that's right," Dawn replied, smiling.
"Be careful," Narcissa said.
"Don't worry, Mother," Buffy said. "I won't let anything happen to anyone."
"I am quite capable of protecting my children," Lucius informed them both.
"Let's go already," Cordelia said impatiently. She was clearly very excited to get Severus home.
"Are you sure you are ready to be in Los Angeles, Uncle Severus?" Buffy asked. "Americans are very cheeky."
She grinned at her uncle as she stepped through the portal.
Cordelia laughed as she led Severus through; Buffy was totally right about that. Lucius followed his son, then Tara with Willow closing out the group.
Willow could feel the darkness of the hellmouth welcome her in its dark embrace. Tara, though, kept a hold of her hand, and she held her wand in her other, remembering the advice of Severus, Minerva, and Albus. Channel your magic through the wand, so you will be protected from the desire to reach for dark magic.
As she did exactly that, she felt the pull of the hellmouth lessen.
"Are you okay?" Tara asked.
She nodded, flashing her lover a relieved smile.
Buffy gave the front door of her house a courtesy knock before opening it. Spike was on the sofa watching TV and jumped up. "You're here!" Spike exclaimed, jumping up to hug Buffy. "Where's Little Bit?"
"Oh, well, Mother really didn't want her to come," Buffy explained. "But I brought my brother and father. "This is my dad Lucius Malfoy and my brother, Draco. This is Spike."
Lucius sighed in resignation. He was going to have to shake hands with a vampire—a soulless one at that.
Lucius held out his hand. "How do you do?" he said.
Spike stood tall, recognizing a British Lord when he met one. "Very well, sir. I assume, you are Lord Malfoy?" he asked.
"In some circles," he acknowledged. "However, you know my daughter."
Spike laughed. "Americans don't care much for titles, but they do like money," he said. "Spike is a nickname. My name is actually William."
"This is the guy you named your Kneazle after?" Draco asked.
Spike gave Buffy a quizzical look while Willow and Tara tried to hide their laughter.
"It's a perfect name, don't you think?" Buffy said, unashamed. "My kitty is black with the white bit on his hair, feet, and tail."
"Your familiar is in no way a kitty," Draco said, snickering.
"What's a Kneazle?" Spike asked.
"They're kind of like demon kitties but way cuter!" Buffy said with a grin.
"Only Buffy would have a pet demon and call it a kitten," Cordelia said in amusement.
"Hey, my Spike is not an actual demon! She's a magical creature! Ask Hagrid!" Buffy protested.
"So you think I'm cute?" Spike asked with a cocky smirk.
"Spike growls at any male that approaches my sister," Draco said.
"He's a fine pet," Lucius added.
Spike was laughing as Connor and Angel came in.
"Hey, you're here!" Connor exclaimed, running to embrace Cordelia.
Buffy hugged Angel and introduced her dad and Draco to the two of them.
Draco realized that this was the vampire that his sister had lost her virginity to. "He's old, Buffy," he pointed out.
"I was older, dufus," she replied.
"How about we not rehash the past?" Angel said quickly, not wanting Buffy's father to set him on fire. Not to mention, this version of Buffy seemed so young. It seemed wrong that they had ever been lovers.
Conner, though, thought she was beautiful and could totally see the appeal. However, he was too focused on Cordelia being alive and well to give much notice to anything else.
"Good idea," Buffy said.
"We need to get a place for everyone to stay," Cordelia said.
"Well, you and Severus can come to my parent's house," Willow said. "They don't stay in town much, but I've kept it up for them."
"Why don't you live there?" Draco asked.
"It's a house without a soul," she said with a shrug.
"I live in a house with a ghost in L.A., so I can handle your childhood home," Cordelia said.
"Okay, so who's still here from your group, Angel?" Buffy asked.
"The presence of the hellmouth was too much for Lorne, so he, Gunne, and Fred left. She was going to stick around, but we decided that she'd man the office back home," Angel said. "We just call her for research help."
"Then my room is open, so Willow and Tara can have their room back. Dad and Draco can have Dawn's room," Buffy said. She looked at Connor. "You okay with the living room?"
He nodded. "I grew up sleeping on the floor of a cave. Your bed, though, was very nice," he said. "Thank you."
"You're welcome," Buffy said, smiling. It was so freaky that Angel had a kid.
They settled in, and then the happy couple arrived. Xander was so happy to see Willow looking back to her old self.
"I see the wand magic agrees with you," Xander said, smiling as he hugged Willow.
"It does," Willow said. "I missed you."
"I missed you more," Xander replied. He smiled at Tara. "And you."
He hugged her. Then turned to Buffy. "So good to see all my girls again."
Buffy gave Xander a familiar bone crushing hug.
"You don't look the same, but the hug is still Buffy," Xander said, grinning down at her as she let go and looked up at him.
"I still can't believe you two are getting hitched. It's so grown up!" Buffy said, smiling at the couple.
"I know," Anya replied, beaming. "I am very excited to honeymoon in Scotland and get away from Xander's family."
"Guys, let me introduce my father and brother. I hope it's okay that they come to the wedding," Buffy said.
Xander's eyes lit up. "More men? I won't be surrounded by vampires and girls and my crazy relatives? Of course, they are welcome!" he exclaimed, grinning.
"This is Lucius Malfoy, my dad and Draco," Buffy introduced. "Dad, this is Xander and Anya."
"Thank you," Lucius said, extending his hand. "I saw Buffy's memories, and I owe you a great debt for saving my daughter's life."
Xander felt his face flush at the praise; he definitely wasn't used to it. "Oh, well, it was no big deal. She's saved my life more times than I can count, and the world, like, lots of times," he said.
"Still, I give you my thanks, and so does her mother," Lucius said, shaking his hand.
"Well, you're very welcome," Xander told him.
"Are you guys excited about tomorrow?" Buffy asked.
"I am!" Anya exclaimed. "You need to come to my house and try on your dress at eleven in the morning. The wedding is at three, so if there are problems, there will be time to fix it."
"No worries. My dad or Uncle Severus can use magic to alter the dress if there are any issues," Buffy said.
Anya flashed them a happy smile. "Excellent! Buffy, Xander cannot share my bed tonight, so you will need to find room for him here or with Willow. As you are now a child, you pose no physical temptation anymore for my Xander. Since she is gay, it's okay," Anya said. "Tradition says we must spend the night before our wedding night apart."
"Sure," Buffy said, grinning. She had missed Anya's bluntness.
"He can sleep on the couch at my house," Willow said.
"So this is your brother," Xander said, smiling at Draco. "How old are you?"
"I am nearly thirteen," he said. His sister's friends were very nice, but he wasn't really used to adults actually paying so much attention to him.
"Yep. Dawn is really bummed that she can't be here. Our mother, though, was near hysterical at the thought of her being back on the hellmouth," Buffy shared. "The magic of the key turned her in a nine-year-old."
"Really? That's insane!" Xander exclaimed.
"That's amazing," Angel commented.
"I wish I could see her," Spike said, missing his Little Bit, who was even more of a little bit of a thing.
"Our mother is very protective," Draco said.
"That's understandable," Anya said. "A hellmouth is dangerous, and no place for a child. It is the reason that I am considering moving to your world. One day, Xander and I hope to reproduce."
"One day, way down the road," Xander said quickly. The idea terrified him.
Angel couldn't help but snicker.
"Why would you'd want to have a child with the woman who used to torture men for fun?" Cordelia couldn't help but say.
"Same reason that I am marrying her," Xander said, looking smug. "Because I love her."
"You always did have insane taste in women," Cordelia observed, smirking at him.
"Says my ex," Xander pointed out.
"Play nice," Willow said, glaring at Cordelia.
"Oh, so you really are thinking about it?" Buffy asked, her eyes lighting up. "You will come to Hogwarts?"
"We're going to spend a week in your world on our honeymoon and check out the place," Xander said.
"Awesome!" Buffy exclaimed.
"Tara and I have fixed up the Shrieking Shack with Dumbledore's permission and turned it into a cozy little love nest," Willow shared.
"Why's it called that?" Anya asked.
"It used to be used for a werewolf student to transform there, so people thought it was haunted," Willow said. "The headmaster told me the tale. The magical community in Buffy's world is very prejudice against werewolves." She gave an uneasy glance to Lucius, who refrained from commenting.
"Aunt Minerva helped us practice transfiguration spells in it," Tara said. "It was a real shack."
"I hope it's not still a shack," Anya said, frowning.
"What she means it that we are sure it's great since it's free," Xander said, putting his arm around Anya's shoulders. Her eyes brightened at that reminder.
"Oh, yes, free is wonderful! I do love things that are free!" she said with a happy smile.
"Well, let's get everyone settled, so I can go see Giles," Buffy said.
"He'll be here soon," Angel said. "I sent him a text."
"He texts now?" Buffy asked in surprise.
"Yes," Angel said, looking smug. "I taught him."
"So many changes," Cordelia said, laughing.
Willow and Tara led her and Severus to her parent's house while Buffy got her dad and Draco settled in her house. "I know it's not what you're used to," Buffy told them as she led them to Dawn's room.
"Nonsense," he said. He took out his wand and transfigured the bed to a king size. "There. Now Draco has plenty of room."
Buffy laughed. "Okay, then," she said.
"This was Dawn's room?" Draco asked, looking around. There were posters on the wall, and nothing looked pink or princess-like at all. "It's so different from her room back home."
"Well, she was a different person in some ways," Buffy said. "America is so different from England, and not being raised with magic and privilege is going to make things very different."
"These pictures," Draco said, looking at the ones taped to the mirror. "They're so odd. They don't move. How can you stand it?"
"It's all we knew. So it wasn't odd to us," Buffy said with a shrug.
"Buffy!" Angel called from the bottom of the stairs.
"Coming!" Buffy called back.
"Giles is here!" Angel called back.
"Oh, Giles!" Buffy exclaimed, her eyes lighting up.
Lucius and Draco watched her dart out of the room.
"That's her watcher she's always talking about, right?" Draco asked.
"Yes," Lucius said. The man from Buffy's memories who had both dragged her into hell but saved her life with his knowledge more than once.
By the time Lucius made it downstairs, Buffy was hugging her watcher and mentor.
"I can't believe you're actually here!" she exclaimed.
"I cannot believe it is you, my dear girl," Giles said, pulling her back, his hands on her shoulders, looking her over. "You look very different, but you are still the same."
Seeing him again caused all this emotion to just rush out of Buffy, and she burst into tears.
Draco was shocked as his sister never cried, and he glanced at his father in concern.
Giles led Buffy to the sofa and held her while she cried. It was an emotional moment for both of them.
For Lucius, it was difficult to see his daughter turn to someone else because she hadn't shown such pain and sorrow in front of him or her mother since she had returned to them. It was disheartening to know that this man—this muggle—held such a place in his daughter's heart even after a year of her being away from him.
"Is she okay?" Draco asked.
They were standing at the bottom of the stairs, looking at the scene as spectators, an unfamiliar place for both.
Angel answered. "She is fine," Angel said. "It's just that Giles can never be a part of her life again, and she knows it. She's probably not allowed herself to grieve for him."
"She didn't cry when she saw you," Draco said, still confused by his sister's behavior.
"She mourned me years ago," Angel said. "Giles, though, has always been her rock. When her dad, Hank Summers, blew off her sixteenth birthday and sent flowers, she rarely talked about him again after going home that first summer. Giles was the one who was always there. He left the Council for her, and in the end, it was Giles who killed Glory when she reverted back to her human host. He knew Buffy could never bring herself to kill a human in cold blood even if the threat was great. He has always done everything he could to keep her and her friends safe and protect her from the darker sides of slaying when he could. Living in a world without Giles is probably very difficult for her."
Lucius knew that was true from Buffy's memories, but he still felt some resentment that this man held such a place in Buffy's heart. This man protected her, a job that should have been Lucius' only. Hatred for his former master nearly overwhelmed him as he gripped the banister and watched his daughter grieve. She should not have suffered so much.
Damn Voldemort. Damn Tom Riddle. One day, he would pay.
"I'm sorry," Buffy said, sitting up and wiping her eyes. Giles gave her his handkerchief.
"It is perfectly all right," he said.
After Buffy was composed, she introduced her family to Giles. "Dad, this is Giles. Giles, this is my dad and brother, Lucius and Draco Malfoy," she introduced.
Giles stood and held out his hand. "It is very nice to meet you both," he said.
"The pleasure is all mine," Lucius said. "I must thank you for watching out for my little girl in my absence."
"I tried, but she isn't one to listen much," Giles said, giving Buff a fond smile.
"That's true," Draco said with a snort.
Xander appeared with the girls, minus Anya.
"Where's Anya?" Buffy asked.
"She had last minute wedding things to do," he said.
"She said that she had no desire to kill demons and vampires the night before her wedding," Willow said, smiling.
"Are we going to go kill demons and vampires?" Draco asked, his eyes wide.
"It's what we do," Xander said with a grin. He put his hand on Draco's shoulders. "Besides, we have to get you some real field experience on the hellmouth—if your dad says it's okay, of course."
Lucius knew that there was no way he could keep his children inside after the sun went down and resigned himself to the inevitable.
"Of course," he said.
Draco was both excited and a bit afraid. However, there were several experienced fighters.
Surely, they would be fine.
*****To Be Continued*****
I hope you enjoyed revisiting this series. This installment will probably be two chapters. Reviews let me know there is still interest. Thanks for reading!
