Chapter 2: Setting Up!

After singing, the kids, animals, and dinosaur entered the treehouse. "Yep, practicing good manners is gonna help me with that fancy restaurant." Robert smiled before Linus hatched an idea.

"I got an idea that could help even more!" Linus exclaimed.

"What is it, Linus?" Heather asked.

"We could pretend to have our own restaurant right here!" Linus smiled.

"That sounds terrific!" Barney smiled as everyone was onboard.

"We could pretend to have different foods, just like a real restaurant!" Hannah smiled.

"And we could wear fancy dress up clothes!" Lila smiled.

"We could set up our pretend kitchen down in the classroom." Chip suggested.

"And use our pretend foods." Peppermint Patty smiled.

"And we can use this table as our dining table!" Ashley suggested.

"I love that idea!" Lila said.

"Let's see, we'll need plates and cups..." Robert began. "And knives, forks and spoons..."

"And we'll need napkins and placemats, too!" Hannah chimed in.

"So much to do!" Sally groaned.

"I hate to be the bearer of bad news but we don't have any placemats." heather commented.

"No placemats? Good grief!" Robert sighed.

"Not to worry. This sounds like a job for...now where did I put it?" Barney realized before the Barney Bag popped out of the hole in the table. "There it is!"

"The Barney Bag!" the kids said in unison.

Barney:

Well, I've been looking in my Barney Bag

And I found a lot of things.

Gizmos and gadgets and odds and ends.

And even some old string.

Barney's Friends and Peanuts Gang:

So let's ask ourselves a question,

"What can we make today?"

With imagination and the Barney Bag

We'll see what we can make today

Yeah!

See what we can make today.

After collecting everything, they got to work on the placemats. "Placemats are always good when you eat." Barney smiled. "Good job on those borders."

"Thank you, Barney." the kids smiled.

"My placemat will have fruits on it." Lila smiled as she finished up hers.

"My placemat will be themed to the diary group." Sally smiled.

"Dairy" Linus corrected.

"Isn't he clever?" cooed Sally.

"Mine is based on sweets!" Peppermint Patty beamed proudly.

"Who saw that coming?" joked Pigpen.

"And mine has a theme of vegetables." Robert said.

"Wow, that's REALLY making me hungry..." Barney said as Snoopy's stomach growled again.

"Is everybody ready to play pretend restaurant?" Barney asked.

"YEAH!" the kids agreed.

"These placemats make our table look just right." Ashley said.

"Come on, guys! Let's set up the kitchen!" Chip commented as he, Hannah, Linus, Pigpen and Lila headed to the classroom.

"And that leaves us to set the table." Ashley commented.

"Then let's get started! I got some stuff in the closet!" Barney explained.

"And I have a dress up chest full of clothes!" Heather smiled.

"Oh I'm sure the children could use my help setting the table, there IS a proper way to do it, after all." Miss Etta boasted.

"Miss Etta, if ANYONE knows proper, it's YOU." Scooter said.

"So true, so true."

"I'm gonna go find a surprise for them to use! Gotta scoot!"

"Goodbye, Scooter..." Miss Etta said, a little confused.

And Barney, Snoopy and Woodstock went to prepare for their pretend restaurant. Just then, Lucy, Violet, Franklin, Schroeder and Marcie entered the playground and made their way to the treehouse.

"So I was telling Frieda that the pigtails didn't really suit her and-" Lucy began before the five of them laid eyes on the treehouse.

"Oh goodness." Franklin said.

"What tornado passed through in here?" asked Schroeder.

"I have no clue!" Violet added.

"I think I'm gonna faint..." Marcie said, feeling uneasy.

"Messy, messy, messy!" Violet complained as she began putting scraps in the recycling. "Ribbons here, glue there, craft paper right here and dirt all over the floor!" she added.

"Vi, stop it!" Lucy scolded.

The group then entered the treehouse. "BARNEY!" Lucy squealed happily, rushing in to hug the dino.

"Hi Lucy." Barney smiled.

"What's going on in here?" Schroeder asked.

"We're about to play pretend restaurant." Robert smiled.

"Would you like to help us set the table?" Charlie Brown asked.

"Oh why yes! This seems like a perfect game!" Marcie smiled.

"This does seem fun! But where's everyone else?" asked Lucy.

"Cooking." Sally smiled.

Back downstairs, Chip, Hannah, Linus, PigPen, and Lila entered the classroom. "Alrighty. We have cups, plates, and bowls." Linus smiled, taking inventory.

"And we have lots of healthy foods like carrots, potatoes, and chicken." Hannah smiled.

"Hey guys, what's cooking?" BJ asked as he and Baby Bop entered the classroom.

"Hi Baby Bop. Hi BJ." Lila cooed.

"We're pretending to make a meal for our restaurant." Chip explained.

"Would you like to help?" asked Pigpen.

"Awwww you bet! I'm your guy!" BJ explained. "I happen to be a top-notch cook, ya know!"

Chip giggled. "I didn't know that."

"Just ask Sissy."

"Is your big brother a top-notch cook?" Lila asked.

"Yeah, he's pretty good-but a restaurant? I don't see a restaurant." Baby Bop said.

"The one in the treehouse." Linus said, as if it was common knowledge.

"Oh!" Baby Bop smiled before realizing what Linus said. "There's a restaurant in the treehouse? Since when?"

"Uh, I'd rather not go into much detail..." Linus smiled sheepishly.

Meanwhile back in the treehouse, the rest of the kids were busy setting the table. "Forks to the left, and spoons and knives to the right." Miss Etta instructed.

"Wow Lucy. You're good at this!" Ashley smiled at Lucy's skills.

"Hey, even a crabby person can have great etiquette." Lucy smiled.

"There. Our table is set." Charlie Brown smiled.

"I think you all are doing a really great job." Barney smiled.

"So true, so true. It all looks just right." Miss Etta smiled.

"Remember, we still have to make our menu." Charlie Brown said.

Robert smiled "And we should have lots of healthy foods to choose from."

"Let's see... peas, potatoes, chicken, salad and my favorite, carrots." Marcie checked some stuff off a list.

"And don't forget some desserts." Lucy added.

"Robert's right. Eating healthy foods is important." Barney reminded. "And do you know what else is good for you?"

"What, Barney?" Sally asked.

"Tell us!" Patty Swanson said.

"It's also important to eat lots of different kinds of food." Barney added on.

"What's wrong with liking carrots?" Marcie asked Peppermint Patty.

"I think they think you'll turn into a rabbit." Peppermint Patty replied back, with a giggle.

"Well, carrots are good. But you just don't want to eat them for your snack. Or just cheese sandwiches for your lunch. Or green beans for your supper." Barney explained.

"But why?" Schroeder asked.

"Because eating different kinds of foods helps our bodies in many different ways." Barney explained.

"Oh, like my mom said that drinking milk helps my bones grow strong!" Robert realized with a smile.

"And my dentist said eating apples helps keeps our teeth clean." Heather smiled.

"Right, so whenever you're eating right, you should try something different for every meal!" Barney smiled as the kids assembled the menu.

Barney:

There are so many foods that you can choose

From chicken and rice, to vegetable stews

If you're willing to try, you can't go wrong

A little bit of everything will help you grow strong

Barney, Robert, Ashley, Lucy, Violet, Sally, Heather, Patty Swanson, Peppermint Patty, Marcie, Charlie Brown, Schroeder, and Franklin:
