Chapter 3: Let's Do This!
After a few minutes, the kids finished their menu. "Well, we finished the menu, Barney." Lucy beamed.
"It looks just right." Barney smiled.
"And we used LOTS of different healthy foods." Ashley said.
"Like chicken and potatoes..." Robert said.
"And broccoli and milk..." Violet added.
"Those are all very healthy foods." Barney praised.
"Speaking of food, I wonder how everyone's doing in the kitchen..." Heather commented.
In the classroom 'kitchen', the kids and dinosaurs were finished. "OK, we got all our foods set up." Linus smiled.
"Now all we need is a waitress." Hannah said.
"Well we could get Lucy..." Linus giggled with Lila.
"Oh I wanna be the waitress! Can I?" Baby Bop smiled before asking, "Wait. What does a waitress do?"
"A waitress is a person in a restaurant who asks you want you want, then brings it to you." Chip explained.
"Oh. Yes! That what I'd like to do!" Baby Bop smiled.
"I think you'd make a great waitress, Baby Bop." Lila smiled.
"Oh goody! I'm the waitress!" Baby Bop smiled.
"Wait a minute, Baby Bop. I think you need to practice first." Linus explained.
"Oh. OK." Baby Bop realized.
"I'll be the customer. And you can wait on me." Lila smiled.
"OK! I'm the waitress!" Baby Bop smiled before practicing the Waitress Song.
Baby Bop:
May I take your order please,
whenever you are ready?
Lila:
Yes, I'd like some soup,
mashed potatoes, just one scoop,
a turkey sandwich, and with that
I'd like a glass of milk.
"Soup, potatoes, sandwich, milk...got it!" Baby Bop told herself as she ran up to Linus, Chip and BJ with an "order" "written" down on a piece of paper.
Baby Bop:
Here is what she ordered
Now please try to make it quickly
Chip:
First, she'd like some soup
Linus:
Mashed potatoes
BJ:
Just one scoop
BJ, Chip and Linus:
A turkey sandwich and with that
She'd like a glass of milk
"I got it!" Baby Bop said as Hannah handed her the tray of "food".
Baby Bop:
Here's your food, I'm sure
That it's exactly what you ordered
Lila:
Yes, I see the soup
Some mashed potatoes-just one scoop
Here's my turkey sandwich
And there's my glass of milk
Baby Bop:
Here is what your lunch will cost
I hope you will enjoy it
Lila:
Ma'am, I love the soup
The mashed potatoes-just one scoop
The turkey sandwich and the milk
I'm sure I'll come again, thanks
"How'd I do?" Baby Bop asked.
"You did a very good job, Baby Bop." Chip praised.
"Not bad." Linus said.
"Thank you." Baby Bop giggled.
"Yeah, sissy! You did great!" added BJ, hugging his little sister.
"Everyone will be surprised when they see you as our waitress!" Hannah commented.
Just then, Scooter popped through the window. "Did someone say 'surprise'? I gotta a surprise too!" Scooter smiled.
"Hi Scooter!" the kids and dinosaurs smiled.
"What's your surprise, Scooter?" Linus smiled.
"I'm not telling, but you'll see it soon! Gotta scoot!" Scooter laughed.
"What was that all about?" Lila giggled.
"I have no idea." Chip chuckled.
Back up in the treehouse, the kids were finishing decorating the table. "Why Ashley, Violet, Heather, the table looks beautiful!" Barney smiled as he and Snoopy were dressed in tuxes.
"Why thank you." Heather smiled as Lucy set down the last flowers.
"And Barney, you look very nice too." Lucy smiled.
"Quite dapper." Charlie Brown added.
"Why thank you." Barney smiled.
"It looks like we're all ready." Robert smiled.
"This is gonna be exciting!" Lucy said. "Schroeder, we can hold hands at the table."
"NO WAY!" Schroeder retorted.
Scooter then poked his head out of the table hole. "Kids in report, your waitress will be right with you!"
"Our waitress?!" the kids asked.
"Probably Lila." Ashley realized.
"Here she comes." Lucy motioned.
Just then, Baby Bop came into the 'restaurant'. "Here comes the waitress!" Baby Bop smiled and giggled. "Hello everybody! I'm your waitress!"
"Baby Bop!" the kids and Barney happily exclaimed.
"Oh, let's remember to use our indoor voices in a restaurant." Barney reminded.
"Baby Bop." the kids and Barney said more quietly.
"What do you want to eat?" Baby Bop asked before realizing her mistake. "Oh, I mean, good afternoon. May I take your order please?"
"Very good, Baby Bop." Barney praised. "You're so polite. Robert, why don't you order first?"
"OK Barney." Robert smiled before choosing his order. "Let's see...I'll have some soup...chicken with potatoes...and broccoli."
"What would you like to drink?" Baby Bop asked.
"Milk, please." Robert requested.
"Very good, Robert! You order lots of healthy foods!" Barney smiled.
"OK, my turn." Lucy smiled. "I'll have a salad...turkey sandwich...and broccoli, please Baby Bop. Oh, and juice to drink."
"I'll have the soup...chicken with potatoes...and carrots, please." Schroeder smiled. "Oh, and milk to drink."
"Me and Snoopy will have the soup...chicken with potatoes...and broccoli. And milk to drink, please." Charlie Brown smiled with Snoopy nodding.
"Are you sure you're getting this all down?" wondered Peppermint Patty.
"Uh huh..." Baby Bop said, scribbling in her notebook.
Ashley chuckled a little. "And I think I'll have a salad and chicken with potatoes and...carrots, please, Baby Bop. Oh, and juice to drink, too."
"And what about you, mister?" Baby Bop asked.
"Ah gimme a break..." Peppermint Patty groaned with a smile. "Fine...I'll have the chicken...some broccoli...and...juice, please."
"Just let me scribble that down..." Baby Bop added. "Mrs. Brown, what about you?"
"I'll have what he's having, ma'am." Heather said, pointing at Charlie Brown. "Mrs. Brown...sounds nice..."
Sally, Lucy, Violet and Patty Swanson groaned a little. "One day without getting too romantic, is that too much to ask for?" wondered Violet.
"I'll have the soup, turkey sandwich, and carrots. And milk to drink." Marcie said.
"I'll have whatever Lucy's having." Franklin smiled.
"Same here!" Violet and Patty Swanson smiled.
"And I'll take a salad, chicken with potatoes, and broccoli. And juice to drink." Sally smiled.
"OK! I'll be right back with your order!" Baby Bop smiled as she headed back downstairs to the 'kitchen'.
"Oh boy, oh boy! I can't wait to see it!" Barney smiled.
Back in the kitchen, the kids were preparing everyone's order. "We got everything all finished! There's the chicken, potatoes, the vegetables, even the bread!" Lila smiled.
"It's easy to tell what you wrote, too!" Chip added, pointing at the scribbles in the notebook.
"I think we did even better than a real restaurant!" BJ declared.
"I hope he can check out our restaurant..." Lila said.
"Who?" Linus asked.
"Mr. Ramsay." Lila replied. "Who else? He'd be impressed with our meals AND our cooperation!"
Chip nodded. "Lila's right. When you work together, everything comes out a lot better."
"And we do good work together!" BJ exclaimed.
"We sure do!" Hannah said.
"I do good work, too!" Baby Bop chimed in. "I've got the order."
"And we've got it all ready!" Lila explained.
"WHOA! That was fast!" Baby Bop said.
"Fast food." Hannah joked.
"I told you we were good!" BJ reminded.
"Good things happen when you help other people." Chip added.
Chip:
A waitress is a person who gives help,
Each and every day.
If you'd like to help people then
Being a waitress is A-OK.
BJ, Baby Bop, Chip, Hannah, Linus, Pigpen, and Lila:
