Once we got into the lifeguard tower and Sam B got the amplifier hooked up to the antenna, we then got a contact with Ryder White shortly after. "Can you read me? The connection got cut before. It's much more open now!" he said, me smirking at that and keeping quiet.
"We got an amplifier, now tell us where you're at," Sinamoi said.
"I'm holed up on the prison island right now," he said... and when he said that, my frown immediately formed.
"The prison island? And how the hell do we reach you, then? That place is surrounded by underwater mines!" I shouted angrily.
"You'll need to go and find a certain man that lives in the jungle, as well as another that lives in Moresby. One for the navigation and one for the boating. Find Sergei Kletska in Moresby and find Mowen in the jungle. Then, get them to take you to the prison island. And be fast, because my wife can only go on until dusk with the medicine they're giving her," he said, me frowning at that.
"On one condition. You need to tell us if you know who is responsible for this outbreak in the first place. We heard from someone that patient zero came from that prison," Purna said, us waiting for a good few seconds before he then responded.
"I don't know where you heard that from, but I can tell you that it's true. I wasn't the one responsible, but my superiors were. I objected, but they did it anyways. It wasn't supposed to go this far," he said, me frowning at that.
"Well, it did, so we don't know if we should trust you... but we'll go through with it, but only if you can tell us if you know of a cure for the others on this island," Xian said.
"When you find Mowen, tell him to take you to the secret lab in the jungle. They can use your blood to find a cure, since you're all immune. It could be used to help many others on that island," he said, me then speaking after.
"Very well. And if we find out you were telling us porkies, you're a bacon sandwich for a zombie, got it?" I frowned at him.
"Gotcha," he said as the connection ended and Sinamoi looked at us with a frown.
"Okay, now we know what to do now. But before we do all that, we need to get that armored car modified so it can get through that barricade in the tunnels. I know a mechanic that lives near a boat warehouse to the northern part of this resort, near the highway that got bombed. If he's still alive, he can get that car to be a tank. And just to make things easier, how about you give some of us here at the lighthouse that magic bite of yours, Grace? Wouldn't want to die of thirst or hunger while we wait," he said, me sighing at that.
"I... haven't tested it on someone who has yet to be bitten... you sure about being the first to test it?" I asked, him nodding at that.
"Yes, I want to see if we can help out the others, especially the kids," he said, me nodding as I then went to his arm and bit him... and after, he then breathed in and out a bit before his skin became all green like me, and the boils came after... but Sinamoi ended up changing a bit more than the others I'd bitten. He ended up getting a bit extra. And by that, I mean that his side got even more boils on his hip, which I saw were festered and looked like they were the same explosive boils that the ones at the hotel had! The only difference was that it was only on his hip and nowhere else.
"What's up with my side? It feels a bit... bloated," he said with a frown.
"It must've been another mutation. Earlier at the hotel, I found these specific infected that were so coated in boils, they were in pain, and they were partly aware... but these boils were explosive, to the point that if anything destroyed them, they'd explode. And getting too close to one of them would make them automatically explode without consent... but your infection looks... different," I frowned as he then itched the area and the boils fell off and made some small explosions on the ground of puss and blood... before the boils regrew back where they were previously.
"Damn, they're very itchy... and messy, it seems... at least they don't blow up too badly," he frowned.
"Hopefully the others don't go through that same issue, but we're going to ask that you enlist yourself and the other half-zombies to bite the uninfected here. But please don't do it without consent. Only if they allow it or they are in danger of turning," I said, him nodding at that.
"Very well," he said, me then going with the others to the armored car and us then getting into it and driving our way to the location, allowing some time to speak to each other on the way.
"So, Grace... what was it like living on a 'paradise' like Banoi? You know, before the outbreak happened," Purna asked, me frowning at that question as she used air quotes.
"For your information, this is the first time the infection has been this nasty. It's been 100 times less bad than this all the times prior, and all caused by the island natives in the deepest parts of the jungle. Whatever monster messed with this virus to be a bioweapon really did their job well. In the past, it was just rabies that made you want to bite others and killed you after about 6 hours. And we could contain it very easily. This? This is man trying to play God," I growled. "Anyways, it's quite nice living here, especially since we don't have any dangerous wildlife aside from the occasional monkey attack. Best part, Kuru doesn't affect between different species. So this strain we have won't infect other wildlife, and vice versa. But living in Moresby is dangerous, as that's where a lot of gang activity happened... including the time that, when I was 15, I got raped by one of those pigs of the Moresby Mutilators, only to get rescued by my dad."
"Damn... that's cold," Logan frowned.
"And what about you, Purna? You and Xian I know nothing about," I said.
"I worked as a member of the Chinese Interpol for a good bit and was told to come here to protect an important man. They said I'd meet them at the hotel... and when I finally found him, he was stripped to the bone of all his flesh," she sighed.
"I see... sorry to hear that," I sighed.
"And I was hired as a bouncer for Sam B and the hotel venue. But I've had a bad history with venues for rappers, as each one has me get into trouble. But I'm grateful for those previous instances, I guess... none of 'em were as bad as this job's backfire," she said.
"Gee, thanks a friggin' lot," Sam B frowned.
"Hey, it's not like you had anything to do with it, Sam Bartholemew," I said, him then hitting the brakes shortly before we got to the road we needed and made me hit my head on the wall, me feeling some of it fall off... only to reform shortly after.
"Who the hell told you that was my last name?!" he asked angrily.
"I've been a fangirl since your very first song, the one before Who Do You Voodoo. And your first song had your last name on there for all to see, but then you changed it shortly after with your next," I said, which made him then let off the brake and drive again, obviously annoyed, but less than when he heard me say his last name.
"I forgot about that song and the shit I had with it... I got sued for using that name by another singer with that last name. It's why Bad Bones is my second least favorite of my work. You already know the one I hate the most... I didn't know I had fans that went as far back as that," he admitted to me.
"Sorry to bring up old wounds, then. I just didn't expect you to be a bit uh... touchy when it comes to your music," I admitted.
"Yeah... it gets on my nerves easily... but I can tell you're being genuine as a fan," he admitted.
"And what about me?" Logan asked as we got to the warehouse to see it was being attacked by infected, me then responding after getting out of the truck and then speaking to him.
"Your awesome stunt of the infamous kick-off, run and gun goal? Never had that been done before, a football player giving the kickoff before then grabbing the fumbled ball and going for the end zone. Best moment I've ever seen in football," I admitted, him smirking at that. "You stay here, I'm going on a bite spree," I said, them nodding as I then went and did just that, biting each of the different infected and, after doing so, I then got a hit of orange juice to wash the taste of my mouth... and thirty seconds later, each turned green and looked around in confusion.
"What the... why are we green? And why do I feel like I have something gross in my... EEEK! BLECK BLECK!" shouted one of the men as they then spat out a bunch of flesh that he had in his mouth, me gagging at that.
"It's gotta be that nasty Kuru, then!... But why are we acting normally again?" one of the women asked.
"Because I'm a unique one, able to bite the infected to get their senses back," I smiled. And only then did the garage door open to show the mechanic within had a couple bites on his arm and he had a teenaged daughter that looked to be next to him and caring for him.
"Oh my... I thought we had a lot of helpers... d-did you... you didn't heal them, did you?" he asked, me nodding as me and my allies then went inside while I looked at the others with seriousness.
"Can we ask you guys to keep watch while we bring in the armored car?" I asked, them nodding.
"And if we bite them, then we can heal them too, now?" asked one of the men, me nodding.
"Yes," I smirked. Shortly after, we then backed the car into the shop onto the rig and the duo inside looked at me with concern and confusion as the doors closed for the green infected to stand guard for us.
"How did you manage to cure them... and why do you look like the jolly green giant?" he asked, pointing out one thing I didn't like about myself.
"Yes, I know I'm 6 foot 1 inch, and please don't mention it again... and I cured them with my own special bite... I guess I'm what you'd call a half-Kuru? I'm partly immune, yet partly zombified by whatever kind of strain this is. Anyone who I bite gets turned to look like me, just with a slightly weaker body. But we also have the power to reattach lost limbs and regenerate from damage," I said, which made him smirk.
"I guess you want me to mod this thing to hell and back, right?" he asked, me nodding at that.
"Yes, mainly because we need to break through a car pileup in the tunnel to Moresby. We need to get there in order to find others who need help as well as an important person who can help us get to the one responsible for this horrid outbreak," I said, him nodding.
"On one condition. I want you to bite me so I won't become a monster... and maybe bring along Jin with your journey," he said, which made the teenager look at him in surprise.
"Dad... why can't I stay here?" she asked, him sighing at that.
"If the military blew up that highway and roughly 100 cars in the process, they'd do horrid things to you if you were to be found alongside me and the green zombies. I'd rather you be with a group of fighters than this old man," he said, her sighing at that.
"Dad... I don't want to lose you... do you promise that I'll see you again?" she asked, me sighing and putting my hand to her, which she was about to retreat, but then held my hand tightly after.
"I can promise you, Jin, that we will see him again. We need to help a lot more people and take out the assholes who turned Kuru into a zombie plague first, though. And I promise you, sir, that I won't let anyone so much as lay a finger on your daughter," I said, him nodding as he held out his arm, me then getting it in my grasp and sighing.
"Ick, so much hair... you have soda here?" I asked, him nodding.
"A few cases of root beer, why?" he asked.
"I need it to wash the taste of sweaty hair out of my mouth," I said.
"Very well. Jin, go get her a cold one, would ya?" he asked, me smirking as Jin then went to the back room and I then bit his arm suddenly, but quickly, making him wince before then shouting out loud. "GOD DAMMIT!" he shouted as he then seethed a bit before, as with all the bitten victims, the pain went away shortly after and he got the green skin and some red boils. But for him? Something else happened. He seemed to get a bit of some kind of rotten stink to him, so bad that it made me get away as it was making me sick.
"Did that bite make him stink or something?" Xian asked as he then started to drip some stuff from his torso down, me seeing that it was some kind of green goo. "No, I think his strain made him poisonous. You'll need to wear some gloves when working, sir," I said, him nodding as he I then got the root beer from Jin and I then proceeded to open the tab and start drinking it to get the sweat out of my mouth.
"Okay, time to get to work. The noise will attract more of the infected, so I hope your green friends will help with that," he said, me nodding as I then looked at the ones outside and went out the side door to speak to them.
"Okay, guys, he's going to start working now. Bite the infected as they come, as they'll be drawn in droves. After they turn, keep them around so I can see how many you helped rescue," I said, them nodding at me.
"Okay, you got it, dude," said an obvious tourist, me seeing he was a surfer guy. I gave a thumbs up and refrained from rolling my eyes until I was back inside of the place and after I barricaded the side door from intrusion with a heavy bar... of course, I needed help from Purna and Sam B to lift it, as it would've ripped my arms off if I grabbed it normally. I then helped out the mechanic with the modifications along with the others, getting the car tricked out with spikes, extra armor, a battering ram at the front, extra engine power with nitro boosts, and iron bar cages to reinforce the windows! And the whole time, we heard four different waves of infected come through and we could also hear that the green allies outside had bit all of them! And after that, I then spoke through the gate and asked a question.
"You guys okay?" I asked them.
"Yeah, and we have nearly 50 others rescued... this green stuff is so weird, but so helpful!" one of them said, me smiling at that.
"Good to hear, cause we're done," I said as we then opened the gate and Jin then looked at me with a smile.
"I'm ready to help out with this... if you need anything to be protected, I can hold onto it so it doesn't get harmed," she said, me nodding as she then got into the back of the armored car and I then asked a very important question.
"Can I drive this monster, please? I wanna feel awesome," I smirked at the others, them smirking at that.
"Go on, have fun," Sam smirked as I then got into the driver's seat and, after everyone else hopped in, we then rushed down the street and went towards the road that led to the tunnel. I then slammed the nitrous on and we slammed through the car pileup, me shouting happily afterwards as we ran through the tunnel unopposed after, going the whole way through until we reached Moresby on the other side... and the whole town looked like it was a war zone. Trash was littered all over the streets, cars were blocking the road all over the damn place, and I saw another zombie that was trying to bust into the church that looked very unique and dangerous. It was a big and burly one in a straight jacket, obviously from the sanitarium! We had to save them, and that was a must.
