Here is my Tucker POV one shot that I wrote when I was feeling down. Hope it makes someone else smile too!
Tucker: Hi, I'm Tucker. Tucker Foley. That's TF as in "Too Fine."
Sam: Oh, gross. Are you hitting on me?
Season 2, Episode 1 "Memory Blank"
My best friend is a superhero, Danny Phantom. He flies, goes invisible, shoots lasers from his hands, you know, the works. He saves people and protects the town. He trains every day and patrols every night to keep the ones he loves safe from danger. He's the one whom everyone looks to in times of crisis. One time, he even helped pull us from an alternate dimension. And that's pretty awesome.
My other best friend, Sam, and I help him as best we can. We kind of have to since we've all been friends since the first grade. When you've been friends that long, you're basically family. Plus, we have spent enough time at each others' homes, it's basically family. Being an only child, I love having my extended family be the ones I personally picked out and I'm glad it was Sam and Danny. Being friends before the accident definitely helped sustain our tumultuous friendship post super powers. And that's pretty awesome.
His sister, Jazz, assists too, in her own way. At least she's passionate about doing the good work. We call ourselves Team Phantom. We try to distract the villains, keep the crowd control to a minimum, keep up to date with the tech and stats of the rogues, and be a helping hand as needed. We may not have superpowers like Danny, but we can hold our own in a fight. And that's pretty awesome.
If you would have told me ten years ago this was my life, I would have never believed you. The techno-geek kid with an ultra-recyclo-vegetarian best friend and ghost hunting family, aeronautics-loving best friend would be the ones keeping the villains at bay from our isolated town and keeping this dimension from blowing up, once almost literally, I would have thought you made something up from a comic book. My beloved technology, with all its perks, could never have predicted this outcome.
But sometimes, I wish I wasn't the one sacrificing everything to hold the world back from destruction. Don't get me wrong, I know Danny is the one out there taking the hard hits, almost literally. I can attest from personal experience, I do not ever want to swap places with him. I don't want to be the one taking the hits, literally, or the one chased through the streets, whether they be fans or foes.
However, sometimes, I would appreciate some recognition. Danny is the face of ghost hunting and I understand that. He's the 'Ghost Boy of Amity Park' so of course he gets the press coverage. And, finally, I was able to convince the unofficial PR team from the Amity Park News that his name wasn't Inviso-Bill. Just being associated with that name was embarrassing! And Sam takes on her own version of publicity. The Manson family name holds enough power even the rich folks from the country club will pacify her passions. And when that isn't enough, she's willing to hold a personal rally or petition for the specific cause, whatever it may be. Everyone in town knows her as a person of conviction for the greater good, even if she does use extreme measures every once in a while. I like to think the pros outway the crazy.
No one knows the Foley family name. Maurice and Angela are relatively unknown and maybe that's for the better. There's no stigma of being crazy obsessive ghost hunters or social ladder climbing snobs. I don't have to worry about my parents getting into a mess or causing a raucous. I can relax when I go home after a long day of school and ghost hunting. I can smell my mom's meatloaf walking through the front door and know it's just delicious and homemade and not about to attack me.
And don't get me wrong, I know Danny and Sam appreciate me. Heck, they wouldn't be able to function without me. I'm the handsome glue that holds us together. We've been friends long enough, we don't even need to talk through our frustrations or appreciations, it's reflected in the actions we take for each other. When Sam buys my Nasty Meal even though it has meat or Danny passes me a cheat code for Doom he found online, I know they were thinking of me. When I cover Sam's six from the ectopusses for the third time this month, she knows I keep her in my peripherals in our fights because I want to keep her safe. When I page Skulker's synced gear away from a fight from Danny, he laughs at the ridiculous places I send him. Last week it was the Halo convention. He was swarmed with little kids wanting pictures, it was hilarious. And I know they don't think less of me when I can't keep of physically. My skinny legs are meant for sitting comfortably in a chair, not racing down the alleys of Amity Park after a glowing green ghost.
But occasionally I wish I was more for everyone else, that I was more than the sidekick. If only Tucker Foley could be more Tucker-ish. Half the time, the papers don't even spell my name right, and it's not even a tough name! I keep correcting the reporters, but I know they ignore me. I know what that's like. It's not like the three of us were popular in high school. Danny and Mikey were Dash's favorite bully targets, but I was a close third place.
So, I've decided I'm going to make them notice me. I'm going to take charge of Team Phantom's image. I'm going to glow up our gear and our presence and make us a force to be reckoned with, both in social media and in fighting. If Nightwing can fight crime in Bludhaven and have a trending Instagram, so can we! We can improve our fighting techniques and communications. I can upgrade our tech faster than the Fenton's can, and make it more stylish, which is arguably just as important of an issue.
Danny is in charge of the fighting as the face of the team. Sam is in charge of the motivations, lores, and personal trainer of the group. Jazz is in charge of organization and keeping the Fenton's tech from accidentally destroying us all, ghost or human. So that leaves me to be the PR manager, stylist, communications, IT consultant, finances, marketing, and anything else that might pop up.
Geeze, that's a lot more than I realized.
I don't have time to worry about being an official sidekick with all that on my plate.
Better get going.
My name is Tucker Foley and I am too fine to waste these good looks and skills on being a simple tech nerd. I have more to contribute in the world.
