Chapter 3.
This will take place about a day or 2 after the last one.
I hope you guys are enjoying this
2 days had now passed since Andy was admitted to hospital.
In those 2 days Andy had spoken to no one, except the police officers that took her statement yesterday. She didn't even allow anyone to visit her. She felt embarrassed that her team had to see her feeling so small and at her lowest. They had to see her almost dying on the ground of a car park, while she was only covered in her jacket.
Andy wasn't one to shut anyone out. But this time, nobody could helo her. She felt dirty. She felt like she had broken her pact with Jack. She couldn't face it.
In the 2 days, the only time Andy slept was when she was sedated. Since then she would pretend to sleep during rounds, or when her team would sneak in to make sure she was okay. Even though she felt like crap, she tried her best to hide it from those who were around her.
Andy was just staring at the ceiling. Staring at the familiar wall of the hospital room she was stuck in. She then heard a soft knock at the door, but she ignored it hoping whoever it was would go away.
It was Jack. He knew how stubborn Andy could be. So he gently opened the door and stepped inside.
"Well. I know your not in the mood to talk. But i figured since your obviously not sleeping, you could do with a coffee and if not coffee then a strawberry and banana smoothie." Jack said, placing the drinks on the table. Andy didn't even look at him, she just continued to stare at the ceiling.
"Your still not talking. Look Andy. We all care about you. We want to help you, and we want to be here for you. For everything, and we can't help you if you don't talk to us." Jack said gently. "You need to eat. You need to drink. You heard what Dr Grey said. They won't let you out of here until you eat, drink and sleep. Andy they've even told you they might have to medicate you to get you to sleep" He said, with a stern tone.
"I don't want help." Andy said quietly "I'm beyond help. No one can help me come back from this. Nobody in that station knows how I feel right now" She added, crying softly. Jack sat on the chair next to his friend, he didn't dare touch her unless she told him he could.
"Andy, you can still talk to us. Don't hold it in, it's always good to talk. Your dad was the one that helped me get help after the skyscraper fire. He encouraged me to talk and now I know when im hitting the self destruct button and I know when to stop myself" Jack said. "I know we don't know how you feel. We can only imagine, but you have to open up" He added. But Andy stayed quiet.
"I'm going to go tell the others to go home. If you want me, you can call me okay?" He said, and he quietly got up and left.
When he left the room, he went straight to where the team sat. They had pretty much all made the hospital their new home, while they guarded the hospital and made sure there friend was safe.
"She's still not really talking. She told me that she doesn't want help, because she is beyond help. I tried to tell her we will still help her and would listen, but she went back to radio silence after." Jack told them. Carina observed. She knew exactly how Andy felt. Nobody knew this, but she did know.
"I know Herrera is stubborn. But I thought she would've at least let you in" Warren said, pointing towards Jack.
"When Pruitt died, she barely let me in and we were married. She but up these walls for the first 3 days, didn't sleep or eat. The only way we got her to finally rest was when Warren helped us get her prescribed some sleeping pills" Robert said "Have the hospital thought of sedating her, getting a therapist?" He added
"Yeah, but she refused. She's refusing everything." Jack replied "I honestly don't know how we can help her if she doesn't speak." He added
In this time, Carina had stepped into Andy's room
"Everyone is quiet worried about you Andy" She said. She noticed the drinks Jack had bought remained untouched.
"They don't know how I feel" Andy spoke, quietly.
"They might not. But I do" Carina said. Andy turned to look at her "I was about 15, I was walking home from school." Carina started to say. "Look, the point is I know okay. There are people you can talk to. Whether they know what your going through or not." She added
"It's just, they've had to deal with me and my trauma for a while. When Ryan died, when my dad died. Even when my dad was dying. They don't need to be helping me with this as well." Andy said, still looking at Carina
"Well, if you won't let them help you. Will you let me help you?" Carina asked, hopeful that Andy would accept.
Andy nodded at Carina, letting the tears fall.
"But you can't tell them anything." Andy stated, while wiping the tears away.
"I would never. Patient confidentiality remember" Carina reminded her. Andy acknowledged with a small smile
"Okay first things first. You have got to sleep. Now if your finding it hard, there are things we can give you." Carina said.
"My mind won't turn off. All I see when I close my eyes is him." Andy said, sadly
"Okay well let me get something to help you sleep. When you wake up we can talk more okay?" Carina said
"Yeah Okay."
About an hour later Andy was finally sleeping. Carina stepped out of her room, and back towards the waiting area. The entire of Station 19 plus Theo were still waiting around.
"She's sleeping" Carina told them. They all sighed with relief "This is going to be a long, hard and painful recovery process for her. She has a lot of things to come to terms with. She's agreeing to talk, but you guys can't push her. Whatever she decides to do you guys have to let her. A part of her was taken that night, without her consent and we cannot let that happen again." She added.
"How'd you get her to sleep? She wasn't talking, she was fully refusing." Jack questioned.
"She found someone to talk to. Someone she can trust, and someone who knows what she is going through. With Andy's consent, we dosed her up on sleeping medication. She should sleep for a few hours, though it will make her drowsy when she wakes. Like I said, this is going to be long and Andy is stubborn. We just have to follow her lead." Carina told them.
Bailey joined the group in the waiting room and hugged her husband.
"Why don't you all go home, Andy has plenty of people here keeping her safe. You have all got to go home, sleep, eat and for the love of god shower." Bailey said, ushering them towards the exit. None of the members of 19 tried to argue. They were tired and they have a shift tomorrow. They all made their way to the exit. Except for Jack. He refused, and stayed where he was.
"Jack, you are going to be no good to Andy if you don't take care of yourself. Right now she is sleeping, that's a step in the right direction. Go home, get yourself cleaned up, sleep and eat then you can come back. Maybe by the time you come back she will still be sleeping, or even awake and ready to talk." Bailey said to him, trying to get him to leave.
"Okay, okay. Just call me if she needs anything" He said, as he got up to leave.
"I will, go go" Carina said. She sighed with some relief for Andy. She knew Andy wanted them to leave, that she wasn't ready to see them all in person around her.
A few hours later, Carina re entered Andy's room. She was still sleeping, but was stirring slightly. Carina had decided to leave the woman in peace and contacted Jack
'Andy is still sleeping. Maybe stay home and come back tomorrow.' She texted, she received no reply so she had hoped the man had gone to sleep. In the 2 days Andy had been in the hospital, he had been the only one that didn't sleep. He had been the one trying to take care of Andy even when she pushed him away. Carina smiled to herself. She had hoped that if any good was going to come, it would be Andy and Jack together.
