Chapter Seven - His Real Job

Williams led me to the reception area on the ground floor. I was still wearing my hospital garb. I wasn't even wearing shoes. There were a few people in the waiting area. An old woman with a baby sized hand in place of her right hand waved to us on our way out. She seemed oddly calm.

We ended up on a muggle street in front of what looked like a run-down building. A sign reading, closed for refurbishment, could be seen on the front window. I had forgotten Mungo's was hidden in plain sight.

Now that we were outside the relative safety of the hospital, I struggled to keep upright. Williams didn't give me any time to linger. He grabbed me by my arm and pulled me along. We walked down the sidewalk and would presumably duck into an alleyway to apparate away.

My legs gave out from under me, and I collapsed to the ground, my legs splayed out in front of me. The pull of gravity released me from his grip on my way down. I brought my hands up to my chest and clasped them together as I struggled to breathe. Williams tightened the grip on his wand and raised it in my direction.

He was going to curse me!!, my mind screamed as I stared at him pleadingly. From behind his legs I could see another man approaching us. The man looked like… No, it was…

"Williams, help!", I screamed out, my life depending on it. I let myself fall the rest of the way back. A red colored curse flew over me. From further away I could hear another spell being cast. I rolled over on my side as Williams, not Williams, whoever he was shifted his attention.

I braced my arms in front of me and was about to get up when I was commanded, "Stay down." With the sound of spells being cast and bright lights going everywhere, I decided to comply. My heart still pounded in my ears.

I covered my head with my arms in an effort to protect myself. Above the sounds of spellfire and chaos, I heard one of them scream out, "I killed her myself. She's supposed to be dead. I will…" His voice abruptly cut off, followed by the sound of a body hitting the ground.

The sounds of chaos stopped, and I could hear someone approaching. I shook and tightened my grasp over my head. My nails dug into my palms.

"It's alright. You're safe now.", his voice spoke from just behind me. I began sobbing uncontrollably. Williams came around and knelt down in front of my face. Looking at him only made me cry more.

"That wasn't me.", he spoke softly. "He must have been Polyjuiced."

I moved my arms back in front of my chest and pulled my legs closer to me. I was laying partly on my side now, nearly in a fetal position. I knew what he said was true, because I had recognised the problem when I saw Williams walking towards us. It's why I cried out for him to help me.

Despite knowing all this, I couldn't calm down. Williams made an attempt to touch me. I screwed my eyes shut.

"I'm sorry, but it will be easier this way." Williams apologized and then spoke what might have been a sleep spell.

My world faded to black.
