Hinata walked down the street, her eyes darting back and forth nervously as she looked for any sign of danger. She couldn't shake the feeling that someone was following her, their presence lurking just out of sight.
Suddenly, a familiar voice called out to her, causing her to jump in surprise. Hinata looked up to see Kiba and Shino standing in front of her, their faces etched with concern.
"Oh, hi," Hinata stuttered out, still feeling on edge. "Do you guys see someone behind me?"
Kiba and Shino's eyes followed Hinata's gaze, spotting a poorly concealed figure hiding behind a nearby lamp post. The shadowy figure desired to make its presence known, intensifying the fear that had already gripped her. They exchanged a knowing glance before turning back to Hinata.
"Yeah, who is that?" Kiba asked, his voice low and serious.
Hinata shook her head, fear creeping into her voice. "I don't know," she said, her heart pounding in her chest. "I've had a feeling that someone's been watching me for the past three days now."
"Have you considered telling Sasuke about this?" Shino asked, his tone serious.
Hinata hesitated before shaking her head. "He's already dealing with so much with his father in the hospital. I don't want to burden him with my problems too," she replied softly.
Kiba and Shino exchanged a worried glance. "Hinata, it's not a burden to let your partner know when something is wrong. Sasuke would want to help you," Kiba said gently.
Hinata bit her lip, feeling torn between her desire to protect Sasuke and her growing fear for her own safety. "He left to take care of his father and I promised I would take care of our cat while he's gone. I don't want to leave him alone," she explained, her voice tinged with sadness.
"I understand," Shino said, his expression softening. "But we can't ignore this either. We need to make sure you're safe."
Kiba nodded in agreement. "Yeah, we can keep an eye on you and your house. And we can also talk to the police and see if there have been any reports of suspicious activity in the area," he suggested.
Hinata's eyes widened at the mention of involving the police. "Do you think it's that serious?" she asked, feeling a lump form in her throat.
"It's always better to be safe than sorry," Shino replied, his voice calm but firm.
Hinata's eyes darted nervously between Kiba and Shino. "I don't want to be a burden, though," she said, her voice tinged with uncertainty. "And what if nothing happens? I don't want to waste the police's time."
Kiba and Shino exchanged a knowing look before Kiba spoke up. "It's better to let them know and be prepared just in case," he said firmly. "We don't want to take any chances with your safety."
She knew that Kiba and Shino were right, but the thought of involving the police made her nervous. "I...I don't know," she said softly, her voice barely above a whisper. "I'm just scared."
Kiba and Shino exchanged another glance before Shino placed a comforting hand on Hinata's shoulder. "It's okay to be scared," he said gently. "We're here for you, and we'll do whatever it takes to keep you safe."
Hinata felt a wave of gratitude wash over her, and she gave them a small, grateful smile. But just as she was about to thank them, she noticed something out of the corner of her eye - the shadowy figure that had been following her for days was gone.
"Wait, look!" she exclaimed, pointing to the empty lamp post. "He's gone!"
Kiba and Shino turned to look, their expressions quickly turning to relief. "Thank goodness," Kiba breathed out. "Maybe it was just some weirdo with nothing better to do."
Hinata couldn't help but feel a twinge of unease. "But what if he comes back?" she asked, her eyes scanning the surroundings warily.
"We'll be ready," Shino said firmly. "And if he does come back, we'll be sure to let Sasuke and the police know."
Sasuke gazed at his father, who lay in the hospital bed looking frail and weak. "Where's Hinata, your wife?" Fugaku asked in a feeble voice.
"She wanted to come, but I told her to stay for class," Sasuke replied, his voice tinged with concern.
Fugaku sighed and shifted his gaze to the ceiling. He knew Hinata was a dedicated student and didn't want her to miss her classes because of him. "She's a good girl," he said softly, his voice barely above a whisper.
Sasuke nodded, feeling a pang of guilt for not being able to spend more time with his father lately. "She's been worried about you," he admitted, his voice cracking slightly.
Fugaku smiled weakly. "I know she has," he said. "But you don't have to worry about me. I'll be fine."
Sasuke wanted to believe his father's words, but the fear of losing him was too great. He pulled up a chair next to the bed and took his father's hand in his, the warmth of his skin providing some comfort in the sterile hospital room.
After a moment of silence, Sasuke's phone rang. He looked at the caller ID and saw that it was Hinata. "Excuse me, Father," he said, standing up and walking a few steps away to answer the call. "Hey, how are you doing?" he asked, his tone soft.
Hinata's voice sounded strained on the other end. "I'm okay," she said. "Just worried about your father."
Sasuke's heart clenched at the sound of her concern. "I know, me too," he said, leaning against the wall for support. "How was class?"
Hinata let out a small sigh. "It was fine," she said. "I just wish I could be there with you both."
"I know," Sasuke said. "But you're doing the right thing. Focus on your studies for now, and we'll get through this together."
Hinata's voice was barely above a whisper when she spoke again. "I miss you, Sasuke," she said, her words laced with longing.
Sasuke felt a rush of emotions at her words. He missed her too, more than he could express. "I miss you too, Hinata," he said, his voice softening. "But we'll be together soon, I promise."
With a final exchange of 'I love you's, Sasuke hung up the phone and walked back to his father's bedside. He squeezed Fugaku's hand, feeling grateful for the support of his family during this difficult time.
The shadow figure stood outside the Uchiha household once again, his heart racing with anticipation as he held the phone up to his ear. "Yes, she's inside the house now," he whispered urgently into the receiver. "It looks like she's just house-sitting while the Uchiha's are gone."
He peered through the window and saw Hinata's figure holding a cat in her hands. "Yes, it looks like there's a pet involved as well," he continued. "But I can't shake this feeling that something's not right. It doesn't look like anything weird is happening here, but I can't be too sure." As the figure spoke, he noticed someone walking by him and quickly tilted his hat to hide his face. He didn't want to be seen or heard, not until he had the information he needed.
