[SPOILER FOR SEASON 1]
This chapter takes place right after Lucifer understands that Chloe makes him vulnerable.
Lucifer's POV
The most evil creature
In Hell, the Devil and his demons were able to take whatever form was needed to torture the damned. On Earth though, Mazikeen of the Lilim was stuck in the shape of this hell hot woman. At first that frustrated her, this is why Lucifer had not said anything. It was not a lie, not really. She had never asked. Lucifer saw no reason to tell his demon that he could still shape-shift. He barely ever did it anyway. But this time it was a matter of life and death. Quite literally so because if he could not understand how the Detective was making him vulnerable, he might ended up being killed.
This is why, the Devil himself was sitting at a windowsill of the Detective's apartment at dusk in the shape of the most evil creature one could find here on Earth, a cat. Of course being the Devil, the cat was black from head to pawns. His eyes were red, not quite blazing with hellfire but still enough for a sinner would not have come any where near him. He could not see much from where he was sitting but he had a plan and his plan just happened to walk inside the room. Lucifer cleared his throat and mewled. As expected, the Detective's offspring ran to him as soon as she heard him. Cats, evil creatures indeed.
"Oh a kitty! Awesome!" said the child as she opened the window. Lucifer was about to walk in when he was lifted off the ground and pressed to the urchin's chest. She closed the window behind her and carried the cat with her to the couch. She sat and settled Lucifer on her lap. His dignity took a hard blow when the child started rubbing his back. She actually pst, pst him! He tried to flee but the urchin gripped him harder with one hand while still caressing him with the other. In any other circumstance he would have been delighted to be at the receiving end of such a treatment but definitely not as a cat and on a child's lap.
He endured this torture for a few more minutes before seriously thinking of clawing his way out. Of course it was the exact moment the Detective chose to come in.
"Mom! Look, look what I found!"
"What are you doing, Monkey? Is that a cat? Where does it come from?"
"Look! She's got funny eyes."
Talk about adding insult to injury! How could the child thing he was female? Lucifer growled, looking very much offended even as a cat. His eyes widened as a hand grabbed his tail and lifted it, exposing him to the urchin. "Oh no, he's a boy." Lucifer wiggled to get his tail back and managed the best scowl a cat as ever made. The Detective sat beside her daughter laughing softly. Now she was making fun of him as well! Great!
"Easy, Monkey. You don't know him and he looks like a grumpy one."
Were the Deckers secretly allying against him or were they just naturally that good at humiliating him? Cat or not, Lucifer was not about to let himself be insulted and say nothing. He turned and glared at the Detective. She erupted in laughter which only served at wounding Lucifer further. "Mom, don't you think he looks a bit like Lucifer?" Trying to play it cool, Lucifer's ears were the only part of him that turned toward the child. "Actually I think you're right, Monkey." As Lucifer thought he could not be more surprise, the Detective scratched his jaw. On instinct, Lucifer lifted his head to give her more access.
"Oh! That he likes!" noted the child. Lucifer would have liked to protest but the Detective moved her fingers to his neck and was watching him which such a fond in her eyes that he just forgot. "You do like it, hum? Little Lucifer cat." The urchin's grip on his back lessened, Lucifer took it as an opportunity to get away from her, but knowing that she would not let him flee, he moved from her lap to the Detective's and tentatively settled there. He was half worried that the child would take him back, and half worried that the Detective would push him away. Neither of them did.
After some time, the urchin went to bed. She asked her mother to stay with the cat and the Detective didn't fought it. She even started digging her finger in his fur. Her touch felt good, better than many of his sexual partners' if he was honest being with himself. And she was just innocently rubbing his back. "Well, well who's a purring little devil after all." The Detective was right. He was indeed purring quite loudly. He hadn't even noticed he was doing it. Under her touch, all his muscles were now completely limp. Her voice, soft and warm, was doing things to him, easing his mind. He was starting to drift off, his worries about his vulnerability long forgotten. By the sound of it, the Detective was on her way to sleep as well. He was so never going to tell Maze about all that.
"I wish my Lucifer would be more like you." she whispered. Her Lucifer? He liked the sound of that. And before he could wonder what that thought meant, he was asleep.
