Daphne Moon sat pensive at her desk. Since she had married Niles, she had been a fulfilled woman, but sometimes she thought back to her old life, the one she led before living in Seattle.
Her existence in Montana still brought her some satisfaction, but Daphne felt regret.
— When I think that I had received an offer to work in one of the largest therapeutic practices in London.
Feeling tired, Daphne got up from her chair and went to bed. The sheet tickled her bare toes.
— What would my life have been like if I had taken another path?
This was the question she asked herself before sleep came to grab her.
- Daphne!
A hand shook her gently while pronouncing her name gently.
- Frasier, what's going on?
— I'm not really Frasier, replied the man who looked like Frasier, I'm someone who took on the appearance of Frasier to show you what would have happened in an alternative life.
— I don't understand.
- Follow me.
They arrived at an apartment that looked like Montana. In fact, it was a cross between Montana and Frasier's apartment.
— I don't understand, what happened to the decoration?
- Well, actually, this is where Frasier lives.
- Does Frasier live here? Did he win the lottery?
It was then that Daphne saw Frasier arrive. He of course does not see her and does not see the guardian angel either. Daphne noticed how different Frasier was. He had always seemed to her a little snobbish and mannered, it was true, but here he sported a flashy and showy suit.
- But... What's going on?
- Well, you've never been to Seattle to work. You stayed in London.
— But how could this have influenced Frasier's life?
- I'll show you.
He then took her to 1901, the apartment in which Frasier usually lived. Martin was there, but Daphne found him a little more tired and in worse shape than usual.
Shortly after, Frederika arrived.
- Who is this young woman?
— Well, you see, in the world where you work for Martin and Frasier, you managed to create a kind of complicity with them. An alchemy that began when Martin hired you. But here, as you stayed in London, they took Frederika. Oh of course, in our world (he had put these words in quotation marks to emphasize their words), she worked a little to replace you during your stay at the slimming camp, but here, she has been there since the beginning. Frasier could not stand it, and he left the apartment to his father, preferring to settle in Montana. And of course, he had to change his profession.
- But why?
— It was too difficult in terms of distance to be able to continue consulting on the radio. And then there was this accident with Roz.
- But what accident?
- The one she fell into and broke her ankle. No one actually advised Frasier to reconcile with her, so she stayed with Bulldog until he showed his true nature. Roz ended up resigning, I think she's a journalist now. Frasier has become a kind of muse for luxury brands.
Daphne then remembered the clothes that Frasier was wearing and then understood why he was dressed in this way.
- But ... What about Niles? Doesn't Niles also live in Montana?
The angel clapped his hands and Daphne saw with horror a clan of bearded and vulgar men joking while reading pornographic works. Niles was among them. Daphne realized that her husband, or rather the one who had been her husband in another life, belonged to this tribe of disgusting and uninteresting men.
- Niles got divorced, Maris kicked him out. He had to come to live at the Shangri La, but no one intervened to help him get the Montana back. Frasier didn't see much of Niles at that time, and the fact that you never came to work at his place only contributed to their estrangement, Frasier and Niles are strangers now. And you...
In the last glimpse, Daphne noticed that she was a single woman and that she neglected herself. Not enough to get bogged down, but at least enough to wear mismatched clothes.
— The therapist you are is very good at making a living professionally, but that's another story for her personal trajectory.
Daphne woke up. What a funny dream, but maybe chance had done it right.
