Skulduggery and Valkyrie were taken to a dark and damp room where they were left tied up and unable to move. They knew that they had to come up with a plan to escape, but they had no idea where they were or who their captors were working for.

After what seemed like hours, the door to the room creaked open, and a tall, shadowy figure entered. Skulduggery and Valkyrie immediately recognized him as the warlock who had a personal grudge against them.

The warlock sneered at them, his eyes glowing with malice. "Well, well, well," he said. "Look what we have here. Skulduggery Pleasant and Valkyrie Cain, at my mercy. Who would have thought?"

Skulduggery and Valkyrie glared at him, their expressions defiant. They refused to show any fear in front of their captor.

The warlock chuckled darkly. "You may be brave, but you're also foolish," he said. "You see, I have plans for the two of you. Big plans. Plans that involve the destruction of the entire magical world."

Skulduggery and Valkyrie exchanged a worried glance. They knew that the warlock was dangerous, and that his plans could have catastrophic consequences.

"Who hired you?" Skulduggery asked, his voice cold.

The warlock's eyes narrowed. "That's none of your concern," he said. "All you need to know is that you're going to be my instruments of destruction. And if you don't cooperate, well…let's just say that I have ways of making you talk."

Skulduggery and Valkyrie tensed, their hearts pounding with fear. They knew that they had to escape, and fast. But with their hands tied and no weapons to speak of, their options were limited.

As the warlock turned to leave the room, Skulduggery caught a glimpse of a piece of paper in his pocket. It looked like a letter, and Skulduggery realized that it might contain valuable information about the warlock's plans and his employer.

With a quick glance at Valkyrie, Skulduggery began to work on untying his bonds, using all of his skills to do so as quickly and quietly as possible.

Just as he was about to free himself, the door to the room opened again, and the warlock returned, his expression dark.

"Well, well, well," he said. "It looks like you two are more resourceful than I gave you credit for. But don't worry, I have a way of dealing with that."

Before Skulduggery and Valkyrie could react, the warlock raised his hand and unleashed a powerful spell, knocking them both unconscious.

When they woke up, they were in a different location, tied up once again. But this time, they had the letter that Skulduggery had managed to pocket.

As they read the letter, their worst fears were confirmed. The warlock had been hired by a mysterious figure known only as "The Mastermind," who had plans to destroy the magical world and rule over it with an iron fist.

Skulduggery and Valkyrie knew that they had to act fast to stop The Mastermind and his evil plans. But for now, they were still tied up and at the mercy of their captors.
