(A/N: Yes! This is another new story. A Bleach/Fate stay night crossover. To be blunt, I'm writing this crossover fanfic because I couldn't pass up the chance of writing a story with the best Fate husbando in the world! And I want more Fate/Bleach crossover with Orihime as the main character with her own Servant.
This time it's a story where Archer EMIYA is summoned to the world of Bleach instead of Orihime dying and being reincarnated into the world of Fate somehow. I think I mentioned this before somewhere- but I'll mention again- I just love, love stories where Archer is sent to another universe [that isn't Fate, obviously]. So now… I want to try a crack at it. And what better way to do that than to do another Orihime/EMIYA Master-Servant dynamic, but this time in the Bleach's universe! I really am beginning to fall in love with these two's platonic relationship. These are two characters I could see being close friends for life.
With that said, on with the story.
I don't own Bleach or Fate.
By the way- I shouldn't have to say- but spoilers for Ulimited Blade Works.)
The Servant and the Princess
A Hero of Justice.
That was something he had dreamed about for as long as he could remember. A dream he held dearly deep within his heart. It was a dream he inherited from a man who had saved him that fateful day, and who he grew to idolize.
When that dream was passed onto him with the man's last dying words, he had spent the rest of his life trying to fulfill it. The desire to save everybody was something he wanted to see realized more than anything. It was what motivated to practice and perfect his magecraft.
Looking back on it now… He could not help but internally laugh scornfully at how pathetic he was. At how much of a naive, idealistic fool he was. He had nothing left to live for, so he clung onto an impossible dream to give his life a sense of purpose. He whole-heartedly believed in that wretched, childish ideal because he sincerely assumed that if he saved people then he could smile beautifully like that man did the night he saved him.
He truly wished to forge a world with any pain or suffering. He truly sought to create a world without tears. A world where no one in his line of sight had a cause or a reason to cry.
It was what led him to making the ultimate mistake of his life. It was what doomed him for all eternity.
After centuries and centuries and centuries of living and fulfilling his duty as a cleaner had passed, he was nearly driven into a despair-induced madness.
He did not wish for this!
All he did was kill and kill and kill. There was simply no end to it! It did not matter whether they were innocent or guilty, good or evil- he slaughtered them all without mercy. He was a slave simply sent to "clean up" the messes humans have made. How naive he was. He sought to save people from calamities and disasters. He was a complete and utter idiot to not realize that those catastrophes and terrible misfortunes were created by humans themselves. He foolishly believed that most of them were caused by- if not natural in nature- some horrible beast or despicable monster. The thought of human greed, selfishness, and conflict having the potential to turn into a world-ending crisis never crossed his mind.
He gave up the possibility of a peaceful, mundane life in order to reach an unfeasible ideal. He became a machine in order to bring about that unattainable dream.
What a complete and utter fool he was.
Although, there was one, desperate hope he clung onto that prevented him from fully falling into the dark oceans or despair and anguish.
There was a slim, hopeful chance for him to go back in time and kill his foolish, naive, and childishly idealistic younger self. If he could succeed in killing the boy, then he could finally put an end to his suffering and misery. That was his single, last wish he desperately held onto. To destroy that boy, and put an end to his eternal existence once and for all.
The broken man known as Shirou Emiya should have never existed!
His wish was finally granted when he was summoned to fight in the Fifth Holy Grail War with the Tohsaka heiress as his Master.
Admittedly, he had completely forgotten the girl. The girl he used to admire so fondly in his past human life. And he did not care to remember her. All he cared about was fulfilling his singular purpose of destroying Shirou Emiya.
Although- he did care a bit about proper formalities- so he could not help but to inquire about his Master's name. When he learned that his Master's name was Rin Tohsaka, a whole slew of emotions flooded within him. It was a name and face he had forgotten a long, long time ago along with most of his human memories. A name that erupted an insanity-induced affection from him simply by recalling it.
Who would've thought that she would be his new Master? But it also answered the long sought out question of who saved him that fateful day. It was the second time his life was saved by someone. It was the day his life took a turn forever.
He mercilessly quashed those old feelings of affection and fondness in the dark recesses of his soul. What would those feelings of sentimentality do for him now? It did not matter anymore that he was looking at an old friend of the past. All that mattered to him now was fulfilling his one and only objective. It was the only reason he answered the girl's call. He could only hope his Master would not get in the way of his desires.
And get in the way she did.
He did not expect nor predict that Rin would grow a soft spot for the boy. Her fondness for the boy became very annoying. Her stubbornness and refusal to kill the boy came off as excuses to keep him alive longer than necessary.
His Master's flaws aside, she was a really powerful and talented Magus. That he could appreciate. He was not protecting some helpless child. She could stand up to other Masters on her own, and go toe-to-toe with most of them- except the Einzenberg and Caster's Master. Only due to her lack of power, ignorance, and inexperience.
His Master, Rin Tohsaka, truly was an exceptional magus. No doubt.
Unfortunately for him, he sometimes wished she was a little more cold and ruthless. If she was, unnecessary obstacles and setbacks to his goal would not have happened.
Her contagious kindness was becoming very irritated- a great annoyance to his ice-cold, steel heart. Her falling in love with the boy proved to be a huge thorn on his side. She was so protective and captivated by the boy's naive nature, she was willing to waste a Command Seal to protect the boy from him. Ugh, how aggravating.
Although- they grew fond of and deeply trusted each other throughout the duration of the War- there was always, always one thing they whole-heartedly disagreed on- and that was whether or not they should keep Shirou Emiya- the Master of Saber- alive.
Rin argued that keeping him alive would give them a powerful ally in the form of Saber. However, he instantly knew that was a lie. Or- at least- not the whole truth. Rin Tohsaka loved Shirou Emiya, and she could not bear the thought of killing or letting someone she loved die.
In the end, he ended up betraying his Master to achieve his personal goal and exacting his grudge. He coldly cast aside anyone who would get in the way of Shirou Emiya's death- allies and enemies be damned.
And even then…! Even then, he still could not kill the boy. He had lost in their clash of ideologies. He was forced to remember how beautiful he once thought that impossible ideal was. Why he still found it beautiful, despite how nihilistic and cynical he's become.
Hmm, his Master's kindness and affection was more infectious than he thought. Truly- if only she was a little colder- then a tiny, shining glimmer of his old self wouldn't have returned. Rin and the events of the Grail War had softened him just a bit. Initially- he would grow completely irritated at the notion- but now he could only inwardly sigh in exasperated acquiesce.
This newfound softness in him led him to help the boy defeat the King of Heroes. What a complete turn of events. He went from wanting the boy 6 ft underground to assisting in defeating one of the most powerful Servants to ever exist. If his old self from 3 weeks ago saw him now, he would have tossed him away as a hopeless fool. Letting sentimentality and an old dream- he had thought he'd long given up- get the best of him? What an utter idiot.
It was then time for him and his Master to bid his last goodbyes. He was left utterly surprised and profoundly caught off-guard when she offered for him to renew his contract with her and become her familiar. Seriously- no matter how much she denied it- Rin truly was a kind person. It was her last ditch effort to save him from his fate as a Counter Guardian. But her solution was only a temporary salvation. Besides, he had no need for such a thing. He no longer had a goal or purpose to stay, so his battle ended then and there.
"Don't worry, Tohsaka, I'll be fine. I swear, I'll try my hardest from now on."
He gave her that last farewell with the promise to start doing better to ease her and… himself.
Now… Here EMIYA was- back on his hill of swords- awaiting to fulfill his next duties as either a Counter Guardian to Alaya or a Servant to a Master. He stared impassively at his lonely, barren world of swords. Each sword planted in the ground blade first- represented his deeds as a before and after becoming a Counter Guardian.
He wondered how long he could keep going like this. He gave up his chance to end his existence. He was back to being a killing machine- Alaya's hunting dog. He was back to being an existence he so utterly despised. There was a slight difference this time though. The one thing that did bring him a bit of salvation that he couldn't find before or had overlooked… Something that would be etched onto his heart forever was the simple fact that…
He was never wrong.
Just then the sound of trumpets rang in the background. The sound quickly got him alert, for he already knew what was happening. He was being summoned!
The instant that crossed his mind as he prepared himself to be sent back to the World for his next assignment, the smooth, gentle sounds of trumpets transformed into roaring dins of sirens. The world around him began flashing a crimson red color. The Counter Guardian's eyes widened in complete shock, and he sprung up to his feet. This was the first time something like this was happening! What was going on?
Violent cracks began to form on the ground, blinding strikes of golden-yellow lights started bursting from the earth. The cracks of light rushed towards him, and he lept away. He wasn't sure what those lights or what it does, but he wasn't exactly keen on finding out.
But why are destructive beams of light appearing in his world- his Reality Marble? He was being summoned mere moments ago… Was this Alaya's doing? No, the Collective Subconscious Will of Humanity would not do something erratic and unnecessary like this. This was the first time EMIYA was being called by a summons so harshly and aggressively.
He jumped and dodged another blast of light. He was really having some doubts now about accepting this type of summoning. What the hell was going on from the other side that was causing such an unusually destructive summons? Whatever he was being summoned to must really be quite the hectic place- perhaps even dangerous. Did his future Master mess up the summoning? The last time he was summoned by an imperfect summoning- courtesy of Rin and her tendency to miss and overlook the most crucial of information and circumstances- he had the great misfortune of being summoned in the sky and crashed unceremoniously in Rin's living room.
The Heroic Spirit dodged another violent burst of light. His brain was busy trying to analyze the situation. What should he do about these destructive lights? He can't very well attack or restrain it blindly without fully comprehending what they are. He wondered if he declined the summoning, would the forceful and wild streaks of light go away? However, it does seem rather adamant about capturing him. He began to notice how the lights were hell-bent on chasing him down. So it definitely was after him. For what though? For the summoning to be complete, or something else? Before he could fully process it or his options- the earth beneath where he landed, unfortunately, erupted- and Emiya was overtaken by a brilliant flash of light.
"Well, this is certainly an interesting place I found myself in."
Emiya found himself in the middle of a dark, empty alleyway. The alleyway was small and trapped between two buildings. It was such a weird and bizarre place to be summoned to, but it sure beats falling from the sky- something that had the misfortune to happen to him during his last summons. He heard the frightened cry of a cat out in the distance as it hurriedly scampered off. His sudden appearance must have scared it off.
Nevertheless, where he was summoned was the least of his concerns. He was more concerned about why couldn't feel any connection to a Master or the World at all. In fact- it was his own mana supply- and his Independent Action skill as an Archer class Servant that was keeping him anchored to this world. And judging by that- he only had 2 days at most before his mana runs out- and he disappears from the world. Wow. Forcibly summoned, only to be almost immediately taken back. How unnecessarily ridiculous and a near waste of time. Was the World messing with him?
Well, it looked like his only option was to figure out where he was. What time period he ended up in.
Just then, he heard the sound of footsteps approaching in his direction. He commenced the only logical option he had in his arsenal, and disappeared into spirit form in a brilliant dust of blue lights. Better not cause a commotion. A strange man in a dark alleyway would definitely set off some wary alarm bells.
And he turned into his astral form just in time too because- only a few moments later- a girl emerged.
The girl was rather young. Younger than his past self, that's for sure. She had long, auburn hair that flowed down her back. She had big, gray eyes that were warm and gentle. Unlike his cold, gray eyes of steel, hers were reminiscent of the moon shining on the surface of an ocean. She appeared to be no more than a teenager of average height. She had a rather slender and very curvaceous figure. She was definitely more… developed than most girls her age. She wore a pair of blue, flower-shaped hair clips in her hair, and full bangs parted into a fringe.
She was carrying a pair of grocery bags in her hands. She must've been out grocery shopping for dinner. Then there must be a grocery store of some kind nearby. And considering the way she was dressed- a casual outfit consisting of a plain blouse and long, flowing skirt with a bit of a floral design around the hem- he was obviously anywhere in the Age of Gods, the Ancient Times, the Feudal Eras, or the New World Eras. She was dressed more modern than anything sense of fashion and style of clothing those eras could come up with.
He watched as the girl tilted her, face morphing into confusion. "I could have sworn I felt someone here," she muttered to herself.
He quirked an invisible eyebrow. "So she sensed my presence?" he pondered thoughtfully. That was… somewhat… impressive. He's been materialized in this world for only a moment or two, and she instantly picked up on his presence. Her senses must be incredibly sharp. Was she a magus?
EMIYA contemplated his options on whether or not he should reveal himself to the girl. But- after a few moments of pondering- in the end- he decided not to. She could potentially be an enemy Master for all he knew. Granted- he doesn't know for sure if he was thrust into another Grail War- but he wasn't going to take any chances. He was not one to take unnecessary risks. He much rather fully assessed the situation first before making any kind of move. Call him a paranoid freak, but he'd much rather be that than a reckless fool who would idiotically charge head-first into things. He has more common sense than the stupid boy.
"Guess, there's no one here…" The girl must have given up searching for him. She twisted on her heel, going back the way she came from. Archer decided to follow the girl out of the alleyway in his astral form.
However- the moment he took two measly steps forward- the girl instinctively halted in her tracks and whipped her head around in his direction.
This… This actually caught him by surprise. Not even Rin- a first-class magus in her own right- was this sensitive to the mana signatures of others. Especially not of Servants in their astral forms.
Just who was this girl?
"I thought… I just felt… someone… following me?" She furrowed her brows in apprehensive confusion, narrowing her eyes in his direction- as to see him.
Archer felt as though there was no sense in hiding anymore. The girl was no doubt a powerful magus of some sort. She had clearly picked up on his presence.
He materialized. But the reaction he got… wasn't something he was expecting.
The girl shrieked in horrified surprise, nearly dropping her grocery bags. Then her expression immediately morphed into awestruck amazement. Her gray orbs sparkled in childlike wonderment. He could practically see stars shining in them.
"How…?! How did you do that?!" the girl shouted in excited glee. "You appeared out of nowhere! Are you a ghost?"
He deadpanned, a brow nearly twitching. Was this girl… an idiot? Although- he has met some… pretty eccentric magi in the past- he really was questioning if the girl truly was a magus. Shouldn't she know about Heroic Spirits? They are general knowledge in the Mage's Association. Maybe his assessment of the girl being a powerful magus was wrong. If so, then he really screwed up by revealing himself to an outsider.
His opinion on the girl's intelligence and… maturity was not helped by the fact that she kept poking and prodding at him like a gleeful child looking at an exciting, new toy. He really was starting to retract his earlier claim about the girl being a magus. She obviously didn't have the haughtiness, pride, nor the dignity of one.
He inwardly sighed. He had no time for this. He should probably just erase the girl's memories. Can't have an innocent bystander being aware of the existence of the magical and spiritual world. Despite being a third-rate- Archer does know a few mind manipulation spells- such as a minor form of hypnosis and memory erasing. Both skills he picked up from his time studying in the Clock Tower for a few, short years before he became a freelance magus in his pursuit of becoming a "Hero of Justice".
Once the girl was done… "inspecting" him, she turned to face him with- what Archer expected was- a bright smile full of naive innocence. "What are you doing in a place like this? Are you haunting it? Or are you lost?"
Once again, he deadpanned at the girl's air-headedness. He had no time for the girl's clueless questions. He had to hurry and leave before someone else spotted him. Although, she would be a great source of information in knowing where he was.
Channeling a bit of magical energy into his eyes and voice, he spoke to her in a commanding tone. "Where am I?"
To his genuine surprise, the girl remained unaffected by his spell. His eyes nearly widened in unexpected shock. She was… unaffected? Either looks could be really, really deceiving, and this girl was indeed a powerful magus in her own right. He would reiterate that he had put some ridiculously pretty eccentric magi over the years. Or she has some damn innate magical potential to become a magus.
Even lower-tiered magi are affected by a mental manipulation spell to some degree casted by a magus stronger and more talented in magecraft than them. He knew that he wasn't the greatest out there when it came to magecraft- he was hardly a contender. But even so… A spell from- from a freaking Servant- should have major effects on an ordinary civilian.
Was this girl no ordinary bystander?
EMIYA tried again, but this time he poured a bit more mana- making his hypnotic spells slightly stronger. Still though, the results fruitlessly remained the same. It had no effect on the girl. She was completely immune to his spell!
Perhaps… this girl has the potential to be his Master. Her mana- if she was able to resist him- seems exceptional enough. Lord knows, he was in dire need of a Master before his mana supply runs out. But… with no goals or objectives in mind or to work towards, does he want to stay?
"You're in Karakura Town!" The girl happily answered his question, totally oblivious to his astoundment of her possibly inherent powers.
"Karakura Town?" he mumbled to himself very quietly. He racked his brain for any memories of a town or city with that name, but he came up short. He doesn't recall any place by the name of Karakura Town. This place was completely foreign to him. So did he end up in yet another timeline that would soon be on a brink of destruction?
He really needed to figure out what was going on here. Who or what summoned him and why?
First, he figured there was one more question he should ask the young girl. "What year is this?" It was a strange question- he knows- but it would help get the general idea of where and when he was.
As expected- the cocked her head slightly- face smeared in confusion. "Year?" She blinked at the odd question. "It's 2001."
He hummed at that. So he was in the modern age. Wait a moment… 2001? Doesn't the Fifth Holy Grail War in Fuyuki City take place in 2004? So the girl was actually his younger self's age, or- technically- a year or two older than him. Nevertheless- should he rule out the involvement of a Grail War?
No. It was too soon to say. For all he knew, he could be thrust into another Grail War- completely unrelated to Fuyuki's. It was better for him to see what's going on. He had two days' worth of mana in his reserves. A day spent scanning, analyzing, and understanding his environment. And afterwards- if there truly was a reason for him to stay- a reason for his summoning- he would search for a potential Master. Someone with an adequately enough mana supply to keep him sustained in this world.
With his next move decided, he dematerilazed. He inwardly cringed at the girl's exclaims of astonishment.
He wasn't a ghost.
What was the point of lamenting that to her? She couldn't hear him anyway. And it's not like he was planning for them to meet again.
Little did EMIYA realize how wrong he was. Because this was the start a very fateful chance.
(A/N: Well, that's it. How did you enjoy the first chapter? I hoped you liked it. I should start off first by stating that this story takes place after Unlimited Blade Works in the Fate/stay night timeline and before the plot of Bleach begins. I should say that I am glad to finally get started on this story. It's been in the works for months- around the same time I was writing "Hibiscus Archer" [still working on it]. Not gonna lie. This is my second attempt at this story. I dug myself into a writer's block on the very first chapter. I was just not feeling the timeline where I set the story up. So here I am- trying again to make it work.
Of course- I hopefully do need to explain- with Archer EMIYA into the mix- the course of the Bleach plot will change. Especially later on. Only the main plot points would remain the same. Ichigo gets his Soul Reaper powers, Chad gets his Fullbring powers, Orihime gets the Shun Shun Rikka, etc., etc. The only thing that might change is the events leading up to these moments.
As for Archer EMIYA's characterization- since this takes place after Fate/stay night- he's closer to his Fate Grand/Order counterpart, but not quite. Truthfully- I have not played Fate/Grand Order nor do I attend to. But- from what I saw and read from the Fate/Grand Order wiki, TVTrope pages, and YouTube clips- like many other EMIYA fans- I do not like how Fate/Grand Order reduced EMIYA into an overprotective mother-hen. So Archer would be a close mixture of his Fate/stay night and Fate/Grand Order self to be more accurate, but not completely precise. It's a bit of a rundown of Archer's character in this story. He's still a cynical asshole, but- thanks to the events of Unlimited Blade Works- he has softened up just a tiny bit. Although, that doesn't mean he won't have more character development as Orihime's Servant. This is just to explain Archer's character at the beginning of this story.
There's one more thing and this is the biggest thing of all…! Archer will not- I repeat- will not be able to copy Zanpakutos. One of my biggest gripes about Bleach/Fate crossovers- despite how much I love it- is that people like to OP Shirou and Archer by making them be able to Project Zanpakutos. Which shouldn't even be possible. Because 1) Zanpakutos are manifestations of the wielder's soul, and 2) since when could Shirou or Archer use the Third Magic? Because that's basically what they are doing whenever they Project a Zankpakuto. They are not only Projecting a weapon, but also the original user's soul. Every time I see it- every time- it makes me bang my head against the wall. Do other authors not know anything about Bleach lore? Or do they just not give jack shit about it?
Now I can be a little forgiving towards people writing Bleach fanfictions and crossovers without seeing all of Bleach. I mean, the lore of Zanpakuto isn't really delved into or fully explored until the final arc. And people may have dropped it after the Soul Society or Arrancar Arcs or may be anime-only watchers. That I could forgive. That and only that.
Other than that, no. No. Just… no. There should be absolutely no reason for Shirou and Archer to Project Zanpakutos. Because- like I said- unless they could somehow miraculously know and can use the Third Magic [which is the materialization/manifestation of the soul, I believe]- it should be absolutely impossible for them.
This is why I really can't stand OP characters. Especially in crossovers. Because people like to screw over the laws and lores of universe A to make a character from universe B better by comparison. It's not good story-telling. It's very blatant favoritism. That's all it is. Nobody can ever do OP character stories right.
This is nearly the same reason- I believe- I gave about why Archer and Shirou shouldn't be about to Project and copy Orihime's Shun Shun Rikka. Because it's part of her soul, and they shouldn't be able to Project her soul. Or a similar reason.
Ok now, this doesn't mean I would limit Archer's capabilities in the story. He won't be able to Project Zanpakutos, but he should be able to Structurally Analyze enough to get the bare minimum of their abilities. For example, he would be able to sense that Rukia's Zanpakuto has ice elemental powers, but he won't be able to Project or copy her sword. Because copying her sword means copying her soul. Like I said, something he should not be able to do.
I hope everyone got all that. That this is the way the story is going to go. No OP Projections. No Shirou Emiya or any version of him plowing through the Bleach plot with relative ease [thanks to aforementioned OP Projections]- completely and unrealistically disregarding Bleach lore [that other Bleach/Fate crossovers love to do so much]. A simple, friendship/fantasy story of Archer EMIYA being Orihime's Servant, and their adventures and misadventures in the world of Bleach. That's it. That's all. Nothing more, nothing less.
Comments and questions in a review would greatly be appreciated, and thanks for reading!

I know that this is a pretty… long list, but I have to give credit where credit is due. If it wasn't for some of these stories, fanfictions, and crossovers, I would not have been inspired nor had the courage to write this Bleach/Fate fanfic. I suggest checking a few of them, if you haven't already. Granted, there may be a few of them that I haven't read in a long time. But the feeling I had when I first read them is still there, so I considered that good enough to give them a bit of a mention. The ones I especially recommend reading are "The Flower Princess and the Alchemist", "Auburn Strands and Red Threads", "Unequivalent Exchange", "Right Place, Wrong War", "Fate: Break Dawn", "Hello Halcyon Days", and "The Rebirth of a Sword Hero". Those are the stories and fanfics I have read countless times, and I can't get enough of them. These are the few "Archer EMIYA ends up in another timeline/world/universe" plots and scenarios [that I've been talking about] and Orihime-centric crossovers that I like and greatly enjoy [except for one that's just purely an IchiHime Bleach fanfiction]. They are just… so… good! Please check them out, especially!
P.P.S. No other Servants would appear [at least, I don't think so] in this story. Trying to take some advice by not doing too much with too many characters. The Bleach cast has alot of characters as is. Don't want to push my limits by adding Fate characters from the Fate franchise into the mix.
P.P.P.S. If you guys haven't noticed, this chapter pays homage to the first chapter [or first couple of chapters] of the Bleach manga. From the title of the chapter to Archer EMIYA being surprised by Orihime's potentially innate spiritual powers.)
