HII YALL! Did ya miss me? Well, fear not, I have come back with the rewrite of my old story, also tysm guys for getting that story to over 100 hits despite the writing. Hopefully you guys like this version just as much as the original :) Also for those unaware, this takes place after season 1 but Olive and Otto and Olympia and Otis sort of like work together, Oona is still Oscar's partner/protege, and the timeline is sort of all over the place because it also includes a character from season 3 tbh the timeline doesn't diverge all that much but it also can get tossed out the window at times so do keep that in mind, also a bit of a warning for anyone who could be taken aback by this, but this book does contain one slightly suggestive scene, but it's glossed over, not really described and it just mentions someone taking off clothes but not underclothes just shirts and pants. Anyways without any further ado, I hope you all enjoy the story and I love you all so much 3
ao3 summary: It's been 2 years since Odd Todd made what he thought was his permanent departure from Odd Squad and has resigned himself to be a Gardener to get away from all oddness and anything to do with odd squad, but after being hit on the head during work, he's found himself to be stuck at Odd Squad and now with nothing else to do, he has to become an agent again, will he get out to his garden? Is his facade going to hold up? And who was the one behind all of this? (I'm putting this here because i couldn't fit it on here)
Todd had been in the garden for the entirety of the afternoon planting new crops and harvesting old ones it was about to start raining for days, "Ah yes, now that it's sunny my 'prize-winning bell peppers' will be ripe, hopefully, next time it rains it will rainwater this time though," Todd said reminiscing the time when it rained pancakes, although it made for fantastic breakfast it made horrible nourishment for plants. After giving up the odd for almost good, he remained neutral as it was the only way for him to truly be at peace with himself after being on both sides and never truly being happy with either. It had been some days since it had last rained and at last, the sun finally showed itself and not half of the moon and itself at the same time. The photos were stunning, but the temperature was not so much. It was almost nearing late afternoon and the sun had been shining down on him for hours only being blocked by his hat so that he wouldn't overheat or get blinded by the light and not be able to see properly. The only seeds in his mind were the cucumber seeds that he had planted. And as he was getting his hands dirty with the soil and tools his mind wandered off as it tended to back to when he nearly succumbed to his urge to turn back to odd and do what he wanted to do since he had left the odd squad. Which was to tip the scales and cause more oddness in the world, only being brought back to reality by Otis and the tomato that he had given him as a warning and a plead to leave him alone as he didn't want to be involved with odd or odd squad or anything of the sort.
Todd thought about the times when he was on the side of good then odd, and now that Todd had been on both sides, the boy felt at peace now that he wasn't forcing himself to choose between two extremes, he disliked how much Odd Squad was against odd because odd makes the world go round just as good does, but they wouldn't understand that. He had mostly blocked it out of his mind for the most part because thinking about anything related to the concept of "good" or "odd" almost disturbed a part of his soul and made him get a feeling that was hard to shake once he got it.
He carefully moved around his hands in the dirt planting seeds and crops and new plants making sure not to mess with any of the plants next to him and he kept the tools that he was using to harvest and plant right beside him so that he could swap them as fast as possible not that he was really running low on time but more for convenience sake. Mostly because he tended to forget where anything seemed to go if not in his eyesight and then go around looking everywhere just to find it was behind some plant.
The first and only thing that was in the front of his mind was making sure his cucumbers could get proper sunlight and rain/water for the week he remembered when his garden got covered in jam and the thing that he was most bitter about was his prise winning bell peppers and as he looked to his new batch he realized that he oddly felt a sense of lingering almost background terror but he brushed it off since he always got those sorts of feelings after the incident where he was met with so much odd that it scared him into never wanting to see something out of the ordinary again.
He was humming some tunes that he had stuck in his head, he walked around the garden to see some of the other people that were also in the garden to clear his head since there were almost five distinct voices all of the same person who was him but they were all talking about drastically different things at the same time, the sound of his footsteps on sand lightly annoyed him but it was part of being in the garden and it was slightly impolite to wear headphones in case someone needed something or wanted to ask a question, there were a lot of those floating around and also in case someone came and wanted to talk to him directly since he was the person who sort of owned and started the garden.
Todd walked back to his spot in the garden and started to go back to planting and tending to the many plants and vegetables that he had planted he had realized that something in his vision changed and the plants seemed more vibrant and bright despite the sun almost setting since it was nearing six o'clock, He still had this lingering sense of fear looming over him. The feeling of dirt on his hands felt almost bland his knees were growing tired and he was thinking about going home when he heard noises behind him he could feel his paranoia growing. Todd was starting to fidget with his hands, his breathing became noticeably heavier, he was slightly shaking, and his heart started skipping beats, but what frustrated him the most was that no matter how hard he tried, no matter how many memories he flipped through he couldn't, for the life of him figure out why he felt so scared. He buried the hatchet with Odd Squad once he proved that he was good now, and he was even helping villains become good again so why did he feel so scared? In the back of Todd's mind, he felt something bad would happen within the next hour and that it would not end well at all, but he couldn't put his finger on what or who would cause this. His jaw clenched out of fear, and despite the autumn sun beaming down more than it would in summer usually, he felt cold shivers run down his spine and something in the air changed for him, he kept on looking behind him and his fear was starting to become more apparent for the people around him, despite being not too close to him, he got up to take a walk around to clear his head as he had done just over ten minutes before, but something was telling him to sit down and not move a limb. He felt like a fool for being so worried when no one was as worried as him, but as he was starting to calm down he heard footsteps behind him, and he didn't turn his head unlike a minute or so prior because he knew that it was probably just someone else walking around the garden, the worst case scenario was that it was Jamie jam plotting to maybe add a little jam somewhere. Todd felt like he was in one of those superhero stories where their inner alarms were going off, and they were going off louder than they ever had before, but instead of taking them for what they were, he was simply covering his ears convincing himself he was just experiencing some sort of anxiety response since he had always lived in a state of fear and fight or flight. The gardener's body went on autopilot he didn't know what was making him act like this and that was the worst part, all he could do was keep going on like nothing was wrong, he didn't even realize that there was cold sweat running down his face.
"Is something the matter?" Someone asked Todd, and he was reluctant to answer honestly because he felt like he would be brushed off as crazy, but he still did.
"I feel like something bad's gonna happen in the next hour and I can't shake the feeling off,"
"That's a shame, as I like to say even when it's raining the sun will still find a way to shine, don't worry those feelings going to pass soon and before you even know it you won't even remember that you were scared at all,"
"Thank you,"
"No problem"
Todd tried his best but he could still hear those footsteps and they were getting closer, but again his mind just brushed it off as someone walking around the garden, and the route they were taking just so happened to be close to where he was at. His hands were sweaty and his grip on his tools was getting tight, he calmed down for a small while using breathing skills that he learned, but it didn't help much, as Todd still had a feeling that someone was going to do something bad and he would be the victim of this person's actions. He was never good at predicting things and even if he did he never did the right thing which always backfired. But this person was acting in such a way that he couldn't tell if it was his paranoia and gut deceiving him, or if it was genuinely someone behind him.
People pass by me all the time why is it scaring me this time? Of course, there's a former villain or two, but that's the thing, former, they're not causing odd this time and even if they would they wouldn't do it to me, right?
His paranoia went from a quiet whisper in a noisy room, soon snowballed into a scream in a quiet room and he couldn't get rid of it, and he felt the footsteps stop just behind him but before he had the time to react he felt something come near his head and then…
SMACK! Todd didn't have the time to process anything, the pain nor the shock before his vision went white, then pitch black and darkness,
When the boy finally awoke he had woken up to a blurry vision to a dimly lit room the first thing that he could feel before even being able to process anything was the sharp pain running through the back of his head before reaching the front, it was almost unbearable but no worse than any of the migraines he had felt before, but after his vision finally unblurred he realized that the pain in his head was the least of his worries,he looked around confused, in pain and most of all terrified, by the look of the room he thought that he had been taken to some villain's lair to have answers on how to be the best villain or something extracted out of him, but this was way worse than any of the scenarios that his wildest imagination could conjure up, he tried to check multiple times if he was dreaming like rubbing his eyes, pinching himself but all that did was give him pain in more places than just his head and when his vision finally cleared out he realized that not only was he not in some villain's lair, but that he was the last place he ever wanted to be taken to… the odd squad trophy room, the last place Todd had been at as an agent before quitting.
The now terrified boy wanted to scream his lungs out in terror, but the last thing he needed was to cause a scene, eventually be found by someone, and then be dragged out, not before getting something like "Code 43" or something like that. He looked up and saw that Ova wasn't yet in the trophy room meaning either he had woken up early in the morning or he had managed to wake up in the middle of lunch break. He hoped that it was the first option so that it would give him more time. The first thing that Todd needed to do besides getting some sort of convincing disguise was to find a good hiding spot until then. He slowly crept around the place, the person who had taken him here must have known him well or at least know that this was the last place he was before he had quit being an agent, either way, he felt like this was just twisting the already painful knife in his heart.
He tried to keep a low profile despite his nearly unbearable pain and slightly blurred vision because he got hit in the head. Once he finally made it out of the trophy room he saw that the place was nearly empty but there were no proper clocks anywhere. He saw Ms. O getting her stuff together and getting her juice pile ready, he knew that she always had a juice box on her but he never seemed to realize the extravagant routine she had to do to get all of those juice boxes there, he saw her choosing the flavor that would best suit her mood for the day. All the memories not only of him as an agent but as "Odd" Todd came flooding back like a tsunami hitting a small town, this guilt seemed to tether him to the exact spot that he was in, his former partner, Olive defending him as he handed over his badge, the times he would taunt Olive because he was bored, the time that he tried to convince Olive that the doubling pattern was just Sammy squirrel all over again, the Pienado, all of it. And the guilt hit even worse, if the initial memories were a nuclear explosion, then the guilt must have been the fallout and the following radiation.
The realization hit Todd like a train to the stomach, but other than the memories and guilt and regret, what was he even wearing at the moment? He needed to find a mirror and fast so that he could figure out what disguise he would need if at all. That would not be hard for Todd to do as he saw a small mirror on what he could only assume was another agent's desk it wasn't too important who it belonged to since he was only going to use it for a few minutes at most. He saw that his hair was in his old hairstyle which wasn't much of an issue because it looked good on him, but as he lowered the mirror down to his clothes, he was horrified to see that he was in his old agent uniform, he nearly had a heart attack since he was wearing this outfit without any sort of badge, of course he willingly handed what was once his badge to Ms. O but that was beside the point. He would get in even more trouble than he already was in being to everyone else "Odd" Todd and also being in headquarters, heaven forbid someone saw him in this he would get some code called on him immediately, and he wouldn't be able to make it a single day without someone noticing that he was in fact "Odd" Todd if it wasn't Ms. O herself.
Todd was already heavily distrusted by everyone there let alone the important people, and there was no way that with how he looked that he would be able to convince anyone that he wasn't just here to cause oddness and torment Olive. With his reputation, it was never just staring or glances it was always some code or some yelling or karma coming right for him. So not only did the person who brought him here know that the trophy room in specific held some emotional meaning to Todd, but they also set him up so that he would look like he was just breaking into an odd squad using his old uniform to cause odd. There was one place, however, that could maybe give him a chance to hide and get him out Scott free, the hiding place located in the lab. Of course, if he wanted to change his appearance so that he wouldn't immediately be recognized as "Odd" Todd, he needed to gather paper because if he was to communicate with anyone he couldn't use his real voice.
And he wasn't the best voice actor to the point where he could simply change his voice, he needed either a voice changer, a text-to-speech device, or some pieces of paper. Of course, now the only thing that he would be able to obtain quickly were pieces of paper. So he raced across headquarters not before putting down the mirror and started looking for slips of paper and some scissors, he took stacks of paper, a pencil, and a pair of scissors and turned the pieces of paper into little slips so that he could communicate properly, but he also kept some the way they were in case he needed to communicate with a lot of words, have a conversation or just write someone a letter.
His goal was to get some sort of mask and ideally change his hair color so that no one would recognize him. Todd needed not to change his hair color to some wacky color, but just get rid of the white streak he still had in his hair. He also needed a mask that would be able to hide his face because even if the other agents wouldn't recognize him the moment he walked past anyone who could recognize him, he would get some code and then he would get dragged out by the guards. Todd crawled into the hiding spot and he got comfy, it was cold so he wanted a blanket. Thankfully there were plenty where that came from, and they all had a nice texture he ran it across his hands and it was as if he was petting a fluffy cat.
Todd also found a pillow and he tucked himself into the makeshift bed. After some looking around, he heard footsteps and all of the paranoia that came to him while he was working in the garden immediately came back, but then he realized that there was no way that they would come in since the place that he was hiding in was only meant for emergencies and that if anyone was walking into the lab at most it was Oscar or even Oona who was supposed to be Oscar's lab assistant. Or just an agent with a broken gadget. He had heard the last time that he encountered Otis and Olympia that there was a new scientist and that her name was Oona and how she had improved so much since she had got in, he was curious to know more but he didn't want Olympia and Otis to know that he might have been eavesdropping on them.
And the whole time that he was listening in, he felt like he was an agent again, back then when there was no Oona, no watches, and no risk of him being there. Todd could hear himself yawning over and over again and his vision got blurrier, he felt his eyelids droop and his expression was expressionless, The air conditioner was blasting against him but since he had his blanket there was no need to worry. He wanted an eyemask and preferably some headphones, he had put the blanket that was on top of him also beneath him so that he would essentially be the human equivalent of a roomy burrito. With the exception of his hands, so that he could grab things and move around, He saw an eyemask and some headphones but they looked almost makeshift, he knew that there was a strict policy around headphones and that nothing that wasn't either approved by The Big O, or Ms. O herself weren't allowed into headquarters, and he was surprised that Oscar would be actively violating one of Ms. O's rules, but at least he wasn't violating Ms. O's main rule which was to do no odd. After taking off his mask for a little while to take a better look around he also saw a music device that allowed him to search for music, and it looked makeshift as well. It wasn't as good as say modern technology but as a device that was supposed to play music, it was good. Todd slipped on the eye mask and the headphones and he noticed that the padding of the headphones was surprisingly comfortable, and he noticed there was a noise canceling feature which was what he needed at the moment since he didn't want to hear sounds even if muffled, of agents talking and yelling from Ms. O since it was now around 30 minutes since Todd had gotten into headquarters and people were starting to pour in. There were multiple features on the device including shuffling and looping songs, and he arranged a sort of playlist that involved instrumentals of some songs that Todd found calming ambient music and lofi music.
Todd could feel his eyes close and his movement was now dormant he was essentially a statue now and he felt his vision go dark and then fell into a slumber and dream. In this first dream of his, he could see that he was in a hazy vision of a room that had round cafeteria tables and that looked eerily like the break room but there was no Oksana, there was no food just a blank room with sad dark and muted colors everywhere, and an unknown light source and a fog that went up nearly to his knees, as he walked around he started to notice everything was becoming less coherent before he went into his next dream notably the most confusing one which was just a state of flashing lights, blurry visions of his old self before he had let the one opportunity he had to be something fall out of his hands like poorly held liquid, visions of his old partner, random colors and throughout all of it an internal feeling of emptiness, but all of this turned into his next and final dream that confirmed what had happened before his paranoia got confirmed, all of the things that could've happened or gone differently. It looped like a broken tape recorder, All types of scenarios where things could have gone differently, like if he had listened to his gut, one where he let the fear get the best of him and he started having a panic attack, one where he had turned around and fought back, and one where nothing happened in the first place and the person who was behind him turned out to just be another gardener. Where there was no fear to be had at all and he just went on with his normal day and routine, chatting farming, listening to music, and going home tired but satisfied. The rest was a haze of color and the sound of ambient music playing in his ears.
As Todd started to wake up, his vision was black but when he took off his eyemask his vision was white and blurred in the far albeit blurry part of his vision, he could see someone taking a nap, and when he rubbed his eyes he could see that this must be the new scientist that the new agents were talking about, Oona in the flesh. Except she hopefully had no idea that he was there sleeping so that he could get some proper rest, he hoped to all good and odd above that he had only slept a couple of hours at most, and that he didn't accidentally sleep well into the night hours, he needed to be able to have a rest of the day because the last thing he wanted was to pull an all-nighter. But with how long he had been knocked out, he most likely slept a couple of hours at most so he must have been fine. He was focused on getting himself awake but then suddenly in his peripheral vision he saw a faint image of Oona and her eyes opening and despite his dazed state, he realized that he had mere seconds to get out of the place since he had nothing to cover his face and he would be questioned and despite Oona being new, she wasn't born yesterday, so if he didn't get out within the next few seconds he was screwed. He quickly rushed to crawl out of the exit and he landed with a slight thud, the pain barely affected him more than the pain in his head that was still lingering after such a hard blow, he was surprised that his consciousness wasn't affected, or that his brain was still working as well as it had before, it was…odd.
The first thing that he needed to do however, was not to try and relieve his pain instead, his first mission was to find something to cover his head and especially something to cover his face because while he could just play off his hairstyle as just a new agent making a mistake, absolutely no one could mistake his face with how infamous it was amongst the agents and especially oscar. The first thing that he saw beside the floor when he got out was that everyone seemed to be on their break or not there entirely, absolutely no one was in the headquarters meaning that everyone was most likely on break. Todd looked down at his new watch and saw that the time read exactly 12:45 meaning that he likely woke up at 12:43, and that's when the puzzle pieces clicked. He realized that since Oona was taking a nap on her break, it was most likely just one of those things that she did on break. Todd realized that it was almost time for everyone to come back including Oscar so he needed to figure out a way to hide his face and hide his hair or at the very least just his white streak that made him stick out like a sore thumb. He was able to craft a hat and a paper mask that would be able to properly cover his face until further notice, he used a little glue, some paper mache, and film to obscure his eyes, and because it was against odd squad policy to have a mask that would cover your eyes since it would obstruct your vision and prevent you from doing cases properly, he carved out some holes for the eyes as well as the nose. He waited for what felt like forever, but he could slowly start to see the people trickle in, first, it was obviously Ms. O since she was the one who had to be there first to get ready to have all the agents solve all the cases and run odd squads.
Lunch break was officially over, there were even some people who had come in since it was technically not against the rules to have lunch outside. This meant that he wouldn't be able to eat until at least the next day, or if Ms. O was generous enough to extend the break into a double break, it happened very rarely only on holidays and just lucky days in general usually when Ms. O was in a particularly good mood. Todd prayed in his head that Ms. O would announce a double lunch break, but all that wishing and praying inside of his head just made him realize how bad of a headache he had. Perhaps it was the blow to the head plus the additional blow to his body that he had taken while trying his hardest to get out before Oona realized there was someone else in the hiding spot with her. Or it might have been the fact that Todd hadn't eaten since at least yesterday.
Either way, his head was hurting badly, he could see Oscar and the gadget that he was holding approaching the lab with that sort of resting smiling face that he had. Todd crouched behind the counter even further and scooted in the opposite direction so that he could hide from Oscar's presence. Oscar wasn't really the type to cautiously look around to see if anything had been different since the last time that he was there, mostly because he was too busy repairing different gadgets. So for the time being, Todd was safe from being Oscar's target. He reached into his pockets for the paper and the pencil that he had gotten for himself so that he could start talking to people without using his voice and outing himself. It was a shame that he would have to do all this just to prove that he wasn't himself. But there was no way that they would believe he wasn't there intentionally, all that he wanted to do was go back to the garden but to do that he would have to mitigate the risk of him being caught so that he could make his escape
. But first, he would have to become an agent so that when he got his first case which of course would be outside, he could use the tubes to go back to his garden and thus he would be free. He finally started to stand up as he saw Oscar start to work on his stuff, he crawled over to just outside the lab and stood up, and walked over to where Oscar was working on gadgets of course he had to do this so that Oscar wouldn't ask why he was just casually hanging out in his lab. Oscar was taken aback by his sudden presence he jumped back and almost flinched. "Ah!"
Todd didn't say a thing, and Oscar seemed to get more confused by the second of what this random boy was doing at his desk and what he wanted. "Uh yello, do you need a gadget repaired, a new gadget, or maybe just to talk?" Oscar tried to sound tough but his nervousness could be seen from outside of headquarters. Todd pulled out the pieces of paper as well as the pencil and Oscar put two and two together and realized that he was probably going to write his responses on the paper, or at least he hoped that was what he was going to do. Todd swiftly wrote down his answer, "Hello, I need a hair-color-inator as well as a face-mask-inator, and I need it as fast as you can make it or get it for me, please," Todd tried to convey a polite tone in his paper, there was no guarantee that it would be interpreted that way, but it was worth a try.
He handed the slip over to Oscar and as the scientist read it his nervousness turned into a sigh of relief, at least now he knew that this boy had benign intentions. And thankfully, he had both of these gadgets on hand. "Ok, what made you want to get these gadgets from me?" Oscar asked with the most confidence he could muster. Todd noticed Oscar's nervousness and he realized that even his presence was unsettling in and of itself. Todd pulled out another piece of paper to write his next response, of course, he had to make this part up because if he were to just reveal his true identity, of course, he would get out quickly but he was already here so there was no point in stopping the flood when the first drops were already starting to pour. "I was going out and I had an encounter with one of the villains and they zapped my head with all sorts of random colors, and i just prefer to wear a face mask and i checked the rule book and it's technically not against the rules," Todd already knew that this note itself was super suspicious but it was the closest thing that he could get the truth considering that there was a part of his hair that would immediately give him away and he needed to get rid of that, and what better way to do that than to use the hair color inator especially since it dyes your whole head.
He handed the slip over to Oscar and as Oscar read it Todd could almost envision the puzzle pieces clicking in Oscar's head as he realized why this random agent with a weird face mask and hat came in. "Ok I'll get those right now, would you like to maybe go somewhere to do this yourself or would you like me to help?" "I'd like to go somewhere to do this myself, I don't really want you seeing my wacky hair at the moment." Did he seriously think that I was just going to let him see my hair? With this white streak of mine, even if I wanted to I couldn't he would know me immediately
Todd took the gadgets with him and after thanking Oscar he crouched down behind one of the desks outside of Oscar's peripheral vision and took off the hat that he had made, it was starting to make him angry with how it felt against his head so he was glad that he was able to take it off. The hair-color-inator looked way more advanced than when it first was made, must have been some updating. It took a couple of minutes but he figured out the mechanics of the gadget and he started flicking through the settings before settling on what he thought was closest to his hair color, and he pointed the gadget to his hair and closed his eyes before he pushed the button and zapped his hair. He realized that the tables were semi-reflective and even amidst the blurry vision of his face he could see that the white streak was now gone and if anything his hair looked a little better than when he came in, he messed up his hair a little as to not cause suspicion since Oscar knew his haircut and he knew it well.
Next was the mask-inator and he needed to finally take off his little makeshift mask, it felt free to take it off as he was able to feel the cool breeze of the air conditioner in the lab go across his face and cool it down. He took the other gadget to his face and prayed that it would work well, he was able to customize the mask and as he pushed the button he actually felt a little nervous but after the zap, he looked at his face and was met with the blurry sight of a golden mask with a smiley face carved into it and the face had a black layer so his eyes and mouth were obscured. It was perfect, all he needed to do now was to become an official agent, get his first case, and then get out and get back to his garden. The plan was perfect and impeccable. As he got up from the table he could already feel the plan starting to come together before his eyes, and Oscar was taken aback by how the agent looked without the mask and the hat and he was almost amazed. He had this sort of aura around him that radiated power and confidence as well as oddly smartness. But at the same time, he was oddly unsettled by the unmoving mask and the fact that his face was so obscured that it would take him so long to figure out who he was even talking to made him a little nervous as Todd walked over to the table he already had his paper written out and he handed the slip to Oscar. It was a thank you note for the gadgets "Well you're welcome," but as Todd walked away Oscar realized that the agent didn't have a badge on him meaning that he was an unregistered agent. That was a clear violation of code gold which stated: All agents must have a badge when in headquarters. Since it's easy to obtain the suit but it's hard to obtain the badge. There was the obvious answer that he needed to call code gold and have him taken away, but he realized that the agent probably had no idea so instead he decided to just take him to Ms. O's office to become a registered agent and then he could let him off the hook.
"Hey, you don't have a badge, I need to take you to Ms. O's office,"
Drats, now I'm seriously in trouble, I wasn't even thinking about that when going into headquarters, I swear the person who took me here is clearly praying for my downfall, I mean they didn't even bother to give me my badge, I still have it next to my suit, there's no way they didn't notice.
Oscar noticed the look of pure terror on the agent even if it wasn't clear what his facial expression was. Todd already knew that he was doomed but he just tried to reassure himself that he was going to be fine and that even if he did get kicked out he could just go back to the garden and forget about the odd squad and try to forget this day.
"I'm not going to throw you under the bus, I promise, I'm just taking you there so that you can become a registered agent because if anyone else were to catch you they would immediately call a cold gold and you'd be taken away by the guards immediately," Oscar said with a calm voice in an attempt to ease the agent's clear terror. He placed his hand on the agent's shoulder to further reassure him. It was clear that the agent was less tense and less nervous about heading to Ms. O's office. Then it hit Oscar, he didn't even know this agent's name, of course, that would be a necessary piece of information to know so that he could properly introduce the kid to Ms. O,
"Hey by the way, what's your name, I'm only asking so I can properly introduce you to Ms. O" Oscar said he was trying to hide his inner coward by covering it with false seriousness, but it was clear that it wasn't working. Todd was scared beyond belief, he had barely managed to get through the encounter with Oscar with literal paper and pencil, and now he was here about to be sent to Ms. O's office, of course, that really would be the best option because then he could be sent out and back to the garden, but he was already in too deep, and this was the first time that the agents of Odd Squad were actually treating him as a proper human being and he wanted to cherish that for at least a day longer. Todd's hands were trembling as he took out the piece of paper and started to write, it wasn't even noticeable but he was starting to stumble and Oscar placed his arm around his shoulder to keep him up-right The last thing that the scientist needed was to be blamed for an agent collapsing and possibly hurting themselves.
Todd was panicking, he needed to come up with a name but suddenly all the names were disappearing out of his head, the first thing he came up with was Jamie, then Rebecca, then Charlie, but none of those names would slide with Odd Squad, so in a rush he wrote apolo but he just replaced the A with an O, surprisingly; it didn't look horrible and he could actually pronounce it in his head well. He handed the slip to Oscar and his eyes softened. And Before they headed up the stairs Oscar said one last thing, "It doesn't matter if Ms. O sends the guards to take you away, I'm going to be there on your side every step of the way and it doesn't matter if I'm allowed to or not, I'm going to do everything in my power to make sure that you become an agent and everything to make sure that you don't get dragged out by those blood-thirsty and power-hungry guards." Oscar smiled as he said that and behind the mask, he felt a smile slowly creep its way up on his lips, his facial expression changed and softened from his usual angry and crazy stare to a calm gaze.
For the first time, he felt safe in the headquarters, and even if back there he wouldn't budge for a second out of pure fear, he was now all willing to go to Ms. O's office even if it meant turning himself in because he was already willing to do it himself.
