Mace Windu was checking over the information that the spy equipment had compiled on Palpatine so far. There was some things that could potentially point towards shady dealings; but nothing that could identify him as the Sith Lord yet. Yannan Beidachi was quietly working on a console. The young half Theelin/human Jedi was very good at computer hacking and bypassing security. The council hoped that she would be able to dig deep into the system and find what Chae was convinced was hiding somewhere in Palpatine's computer files. The system was highly encrypted. Yannan warned them that it could take some time for her to find a way in without alerting Palpatine or any of his staff.

Little did anyone know that it would be Obi-Wan would be the one who would be the one to finally crack the case. He would be the one to find something that would become a damning piece of evidence against Palpatine. Said evidence would also help Yannan Beidachi hack into the computer system in Palpatine's quarters. It was a holo-communicator of all things that would be the item to help the Jedi. Obi-Wan had tracked General Grievous to the planet of Utapau. After killing Grievous, Obi-Wan had found the communicator, which had clattered across the floor as Grievous had fallen. Curiosity got the better of the Jedi when he saw there was a message saved to the device. He activated it and was greeted by a hologram of the Sith Lord they were hunting. Although the man's face was hidden, Obi-Wan knew that voice anywhere. It was the Supreme Chancellor.

Obi-Wan, convinced he was going crazy from lack of sleep and the stresses of war, started the message over again; just to be sure he had seen and heard what he thought he had. Pocketing the device, Obi-Wan knew he had to get back to Coruscant and hand it over. He desperately tried to keep his panic under control. Chae was in danger – he couldn't explain why he'd suddenly felt this, but he knew he had to get home and find a way to get Chae out of harm's way.

Palpatine shut down the holo message that had been left for him. General Kenobi was still alive and he potentially had evidence that would make things very difficult for the Supreme Chancellor. Palpatine thought for a while, trying to figure out what he could do to stop the Jedi from returning to Coruscant. After some thought, the chancellor wondered if he could cause an accident – a crash landing of some sort. There was a war going on, so it wouldn't seem too strange for ships to be attacked and destroyed. He would also make sure there were assassins dotted around, ready to act at a moment's notice, should the Jedi survive a crash.

Added bonus would be that, if anything happened to the general, Palpatine could potentially use that in his attempts to turn Chae to his side. He had noticed that she was beginning to drop her guard a little around him in the weeks she had spent in his presence, acting as his personal protection and assisting him with keeping rumours about him at bay. The Jedi Council had not liked the chancellor's request but they had eventually relented to letting Chae essentially act as a bodyguard for him.

Chae had revealed that she still had that tiny amount of resentment towards the council for what had happened years before with her daughter, and her brief exile. Chae admitted part of her wondered how life would have gone had she chosen to not return and, instead, taken Obi-Wan up on his offer to leave together and have a normal life away from the Order. Just the two of them, married, raising Evana, working regular jobs and maybe having more children. Just being a normal family.

Palpatine started to make the plans that needed to be put into place. Obi-Wan had to die in one way or another. The man had become too troublesome and Palpatine had to stop him revealing his secret identity. The chancellor had gotten too far just to have everything ruined by the Jedi.

Obi-Wan didn't realise that he was being tailed until he dropped out of hyperspace and approached Coruscant. He didn't need the Force to tell him that he was likely being hunted by someone connected to the Sith Lord. He'd had a weird feeling that he'd not been able to shake since leaving the planet. Radioing ahead to Coruscant air space and transmitting his codes, Obi-Wan set his ship ready to approach, contacting Chae at the same time to let her know he was on his way back.

This was when the other ship started to attack. Obi-Wan did his best to dodge the attacks as he made his way planet side. Whomever it was that was chasing and attacking him was determined that he wasn't going to make it out of this alive. They were also a far superior fighter pilot. Obi-Wan wasn't a bad pilot by any means. But this person was something else. All it took was one lucky shot to render Obi-Wan's ship completely useless.

Obi-Wan's ship hurtled towards the planet's surface, completely out of control. Obi-Wan desperately tried not to choke on the smoke that was building up in the cockpit. His eyes burned and streamed due to the smoke and fumes as he struggled to stay conscious. Was this it? Was this how he died? Suffocating to death as he hurtled towards the planet's upper levels, likely dying on impact if suffocation didn't get him first?

The initial impact of the crash threw Obi-Wan through the cockpit window. The damaged ship continued to bounce and skid until it hit the side of a nearby building. Thankfully the Jedi still had the presence of mind to use the Force to cushion his fall. As Obi-Wan hit the ground, pain ripped through his body. The pain from the impact was so intense that it literally knocked the air from his lungs. He couldn't think or react. All he knew was pain...

Somehow, Obi-Wan found the strength to drag himself further away from the burning wreckage, should it decide to explode. The progress was incredibly slow and painful. A he did so, he felt a foot on the small of his back. It connected with some force, pinned him and stopped him from being able to move any further.

"Not so fast Jedi!" The voice had that metallic sound of some kind of droid. But being face down, Obi-Wan was unable to see exactly who or what it was.

"You're a wanted man – you should be a dead one!" The voice continued.

"Then just kill me," Obi-Wan struggled to say. His throat was still burning and it hurt to talk. He was in no position to be able to fight back. He was hurt, pinned down and he had the sneaking suspicion he may have lost his lightsaber.

"With pleasure."

Obi-Wan braced himself for the incoming blaster fire but instead all he heard was the ignition of a lightsaber. There was the sounds of a very brief battle then a clunk. Obi-Wan was aware of being turned onto his back. The bright sun stung at his eyes and he flinched.

"Easy there, it's okay, you're safe now."

Obi-Wan finally managed to focus on the person kneeling at his side, as their form was blocking the sun. The voice and the presence were familiar and comforting. It was Chae. She had found him.

"Stay still, you're hurt," Chae said gently, one hand caressing his cheek, her other hand on his chest.

Obi-Wan felt the warmth flow through him as Chae used her healing abilities to at stabilise his condition. He was vaguely aware of the voice of his former master; and of being put onto some kind of stretcher, before he succumbed to unconsciousness.

Chae barely left the Healer's area over the following two days, only leaving at her father's insistence to eat, grab some sleep and attend to Evana. Her bodyguard arrangements with Palpatine were promptly forgotten. Her focus was on making sure Obi-Wan was properly cared for. Normally, Vokara Che, wouldn't have allowed such a thing, but Chae was stubborn so Vokara relented and allowed her to be in charge of Obi-Wan's care. He had some minor fractures, a concussion and had suffered from smoke inhalation and minor burns to his throat, but he would recover.

By the third day, it was agreed that Obi-Wan had healed well enough to leave the care of the healers. The first thing Obi-Wan saw when he awoke was Chae, sat on the edge of his bed. She looked exhausted, although she would no doubt deny that she felt as such. For a few moments he just took the time to appreciate seeing her face again. Chae managed a tired smile in return. With some effort Obi-Wan managed to sit up. He suddenly became aware of the fact that he was wearing very little; only undergarments.

"Thank you for staying with me," Obi-Wan managed to say, his voice sounding somewhat hoarse from the smoke inhalation and the internal burns.

"I wasn't about to leave you alone here when you needed me."

Standing up, Chae pulled the curtain around the bed, in order to give Obi-Wan some privacy so that he could dress. It took a moment for Obi-Wan to feel steady enough to stand. As he dressed, his hand felt something solid in one of the pouches of his utility belt. He paused for a moment, then remembered what he had put in there. The communicator! He just hoped it hadn't been damaged during the crash. As Chae returned to check if he was managing to dress himself okay, Obi-Wan handed her the communicator.

Chae was slightly confused at first. "What's this?"

"Hopefully the evidence you need, if it still works after the crash," Obi-Wan responded. "Although don't look at the message here. Go somewhere private and secure first."

Frowning for a moment, Chae then suddenly realised what Obi-Wan was telling her. She put the communicator away into one of her belt pouches. After a brief moment, Chae seemed to remember what else she was about to do. She unclipped Obi-Wan's lightsaber from her belt and handed it back to him.

"I do believe you dropped this," she said, handing it back to him. "It appears to still work."
