Chae was taken into the care of the Temple healers. Her stab wound wasn't as bad as initially feared. The bruises and scrapes were a minor inconvenience. Her body had suffered more due to using Dark Force powers that she wasn't use to using; and the Darkside powers Palpatine had used against them. The healers were hopeful that she would recover. How she had faired, mentally, after being exposed to so much Darkside energy would be another thing. The council hoped that she hadn't fallen to the Darkside – or at least, hadn't fallen too far that she couldn't be saved.

In the following days – and weeks – after Palpatine was defeated, change began to happen. The senate began slowly rebuilding itself. It had become incredibly unstable and corrupt no thanks to the Sith Lord breaking it down from the inside. But with the right people leading the way, the senate would one day fully heal. Or at least people had faith that it would. Bail Organa and Padmé Amidala did their best to lead the rebuild of the senate.

The Jedi could feel the Force much clearer now. Before, their connection had become dark and clouded due to the encroaching Darkside that had blinded them for many years. It had become increasingly more difficult to see or feel the Force. But now, it was like a massive weight had been lifted and the Jedi could finally feel and use the Force clearly again.

During this time Obi-Wan Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon and Anakin began working with the Jedi Council to start changing the code. It had been a decision that had been backed by nearly the entire Order. Many had, for a long time, felt the Order had been seriously overdue a complete rethink. The galaxy was always changing, but the Jedi had become stuck in their ways for far too long; the code being interpreted in far too many different ways, to the point that it had become far too muddled.

The core principles were to remain the same. But how to deal with a Jedi's mental health, general well being and personal relations were to be overhauled. There were many examples to show that romantic love and positive attachments could work in harmony with the code. Obi-Wan and Chae were a prime example of this. They were hopelessly in love and were two of the best Jedi the Order had ever had. Asia being able to reunite with her family had helped her to unlock her full potential. All that was asked is that all the parties involved knew that, one day, they would have to eventually let go. All of this was an important lesson taught to the Jedi during their training.

Those Jedi that had children would no longer be exiled by default. They had lost far too many good Jedi to this part of the old code. There had been occasions when members of the Order hadn't been punished for this, but that was few and far between.

Now that the war was over, thanks to Palpatine's death, the Jedi were afforded more time off for rest where appropriate. After several days of being in the care of the healers, Chae was allowed to leave their care; on the promise that she would take the time needed to fully heal and to not take on too many strenuous missions for the foreseeable future. There was only so much the healers could do. Sometimes the human mind and body just needed to do things in its own time.

As it was early in the morning on the day she was allowed to leave, Chae took herself to the Temple library. Both Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan were in a meeting, Anakin was apparently with Padmé, who was likely due to give birth any day now, if Chae's memory served correctly. Evana was with the Kibibi family and would likely be on her way to school. Chae decided it would be a good idea to concentrate on her role within the library and historical records. The cataloguing of books, holocrons and other items had fallen very behind. The number of historians had fallen drastically so more would need to be trained. Jocasta filled Chae in on the changes to the Code whilst Chae had been with the healers.

Chae felt her heart rate increase with both disbelief and hope. She felt slightly faint. Could she and Obi-Wan finally be together openly? Jocasta noticed her reaction and helped her to sit down. A half smile tugged at her lips. Her suspicions had been correct. Jocasta had suspected for some time that Chae and Obi-Wan secretly had something going on between them. They behaved too relaxed and casual around each other, in a way that went way beyond a mere friendship. As Chae was pulling her thoughts together, Asia appeared at the entrance of the library. The Twi'lek scanned the room, her face lighting up when she spotted her friend. Chae got to her feet to greet her friend.

"Chae! Have you seen your father or Obi-Wan yet? Have you heard?" Asia asked excitedly.

"About the changes to the Code? Yes, I've just found out."

Chae paused and looked at Asia. There was something different about her but Chae couldn't quite place what it was. Her mind, and connection with the Force, were still a little foggy after the battle with Palpatine. Asia seemed to realise what was on Chae's mind and smiled.

"I'm pregnant…"

"Truly?" Chae asked, hardly daring to believe what she had been told.

Asia nodded, her face splitting into a massive smile. Chae was overcome with emotion and could only hug her friend. Jocasta politely excused herself so that the two friends could have this moment together in private. Tom already knew about the baby – Qui-Gon had helped Asia sneak into the Temple communication room in order to contact his ship, as he was currently off planet, doing a supply run. This had prompted him to ask Asia to marry him. The change of the Code couldn't have come at a better time. Asia had been massively relieved knowing she wouldn't be exiled from the Order.

Obi-Wan was exhausted and done with all the back to back meetings with the council and the senators that had been going on for the past few days. He had wanted to be there when Chae had left the healers that morning. He'd wanted to be the one to tell her about the new Jedi Code; and to also ask her a very important question. Instead, he and his former master were having to listen to another round of senators debating what was to happen in regards to the changes within the senate.

Chae decided she was going to surprise Obi-Wan. She had manage to track down where the meeting was taking place and she had talked her way into the senate building, saying that she was there to join the other Jedi who were already in the building. Chae was pretty sure that her reputation for killing the Sith Lord chancellor helped as well. She was approaching the meeting room as Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan were coming out of it. Impulsively, Chae ran to Obi-Wan and practically jumped into his arms, almost disappearing in the layers of his hooded robe as Obi-Wan wrapped his arms around her. It felt so good to feel Obi-Wan hold her after everything that had happened – the war in general, the two of them nearly getting killed, the investigation and the final battle with Palpatine.

Before the two men could say so, Chae told them that she had already been told about the new Code. Qui-Gon excused himself to allow Obi-Wan the chance to ask Chae his question. Qui-Gon had picked up on his former padawan's thoughts and emotions more than usual that day. Now that the two of them could be open about their relationship, Obi-Wan wanted to ask Chae to marry him. He wanted them to have their family unit in an official capacity.

Taking Chae's hand, Obi-Wan asked her to follow him. He just wanted to get out of the senate building and be anywhere else. Chae could feel Obi-Wan was restless and had something on his mind. They ended up at Coruscant Park, not far from the Jedi Temple. It was a place that they had both found peace over the years, especially on those days when they just needed to get out of the Temple. The Park was one of the rare areas of greenery on the massive city planet.

Standing under their favourite tree, Obi-Wan pulled Chae round to face him. He took hold of her hands. Taking a steadying breath, Obi-Wan looked her in the eyes. They had become an interesting colour. They were still green, but they had flecks of gold in them; a strange effect of the Darkside powers that she'd used and encountered.

"Are you finally going to tell me what's gotten you all wound up?" Chae asked.

"Now that we're able to be open with our relationship… will you marry me?" Obi-Wan didn't want to wait a moment longer.

Chae was left momentarily surprised. Despite having spoken about marriage and children in the past, it had only been in a hypothetical sense, she still hadn't ever expected it to happen. Now, here she was, finally having Obi-Wan asking her that one question she'd always wanted to hear; but never dreamed it would without consequences from the Order.

Chae answered with a gentle "Yes, I want to marry you, I want to be your wife."

Obi-Wan pulled her in for a tight hug and they shared a long, deep kiss. Their love for each other flowed through their Force bond. Everything was changing but it was changing for the better. They were finally getting what they always wanted.
