Charles Afton and Eric Emily had their best years in the 1970s. Although the public is unaware of these two men's backgrounds, it is known that they had a talent for robotics. Charles and Eric began making their first known animatronic girl one month after graduating from high school in downtown Utah, with the same dream of opening a cabaret filled with animatronic girls.

They based their first animatronic girl on a golden-furred bear. Her hair is long and blonde, and her skin is gold and tanned. She is dressed in a button-down shirt that reveals only her slim waist. Her breasts are large and visible through the shirt. She also wears a top hat and two bear ears, as well as black pants. Most notably, she has a microphone on which she sings classic songs from any genre. Rock, jazz, and so on. She is portrayed as a suave and seductive character who is willing to tease the audience in front of her.

Charles Afton used holograms to observe how Fredbearina, the animatronic girl's name, reacts to a crowd of people. Although the test went well at first, Fredbearina becomes overwhelmed and withdraws from the crowd. Eric Emily and Charles Afton realized they needed to make a companion for Fredbearina when Eric proposed making an animatronic bunny girl this time, to which Charles agreed.

Spring-Bonnay is the name of the animatronic rabbit girl in question. She'd have the same gold and tan skin tone as Fredbearina, as well as long blonde hair. But this time, because she's dressed as a rabbit, she gets two rabbit ears and a tail, all of which are gold. She appears to dress more casually, as she wears a striped shirt and black shorts to distinguish herself as a normal human civilian. When she got on stage with Fredbearina, the test went as expected and successful.

Charles Afton and Eric Emily made their next move by revealing these two animatronic girls to the state of Utah. Interested in these two robotic geniuses ideas of making a cabaret, the civilians gave both Charles Afton and Eric enough money to start said cabaret in a large building that had been abandoned since the late 1800s. After a few months, Charles handled their finances, and Fredbearina's Cabaret was open for business in 1983 and became an absolute success. Not only was Fredbearina's Cabaret a hotspot for nightclub people in Utah, but Charles locked in a deal with an animation studio to create a mature-themed anime-style TV show based on his creations.

The only downside to this, however, is that the studio wanted to have more characters to make the show more interesting to all audiences. Charles Afton, at the time of the deal, seemed to expect this kind of response, and created four different characters: A brown bear girl, Freddrina, a purple bunny girl, Bonnay, a xanthophyll chicken girl, Chiku, and a red fox girl, Fexie.

This wasn't the peak of success for Charles or Eric, as they noticed while children stood near the building waiting for their parents, not allowed to go inside for age restrictions. This worried Charles quite a bit, as their success could've potentially diminished if Eric hadn't come up with a kid-friendly version of Fredbearina's Cabaret called Fredbearina's Family Diner. Although hesitating at such an idea, Charles eventually agreed to start locations of the Family Diner across America, as they did with the Cabaret. After all of this, Charles Afton and Eric Emily's success had peaked, with their riches almost unheard of, even by other successful people's peers.

Everything seemed to work well, until things started to take a turn for the worst...

Because Charles Afton was the only child in his family, he only had a Mother, Father, Grandparents, Uncle, and Aunt, all of whom clearly disapprove of their descendant's massive success. Although Charles tried to convince his family that he was no longer the moody teenager he once was, they didn't believe a word he said. Charles Afton would watch his family leave with contempt after a terrible night with them. And, in a horrifying turn of events, the Afton family would vanish that night, with no evidence to convict anyone of the family's sudden disappearance.

This haunting incident would be infamously known as the Vanishing of '83...

Because of this incident, Charles Afton and Eric Emily scrambled for a new idea to save their business, as the Afton family's disappearance occurred not far from the location of Fredbearina's Cabaret in Utah. Eric Emily would suggest a nightshift job to anyone, unaware of how life-changing this decision would be. Charles Afton paused for a moment before agreeing, knowing that this would increase the security of their company. They offered the job to anyone who was willing to stay five nights for $3.75 per hour, daily age being $30, and $150 per week.

This is when Jess Schmidt becomes the first nightguard at Fredbearina's Cabaret, and this job would be more than what she bargained for...
