CHAPTER ONE: THE DEATH OF NIGHTWING
The streets of Gotham City were quiet, almost too quiet. The usual chaos and mayhem that plagued the city had ceased, but it was not a welcome relief. The people knew something was wrong. They could feel it in their bones. In the darkened alleys and corners of the city, whispers spread like wildfire. The city's protector, Nightwing, had fallen.
Batman had received the call early that morning, and his world had shattered. He couldn't believe that his former protege and friend was gone. Nightwing had been a beacon of hope for the city, and now that light had been extinguished.
At the funeral, Gotham's finest had gathered to pay their respects. The pallbearers carried the casket through the streets, the sound of their footsteps echoing through the silent city.
Selena Kyle stood in the crowd, her heart heavy with grief. Nightwing had been her friend, and she had come to pay her respects. Damian Wayne, Nightwing's successor, stood stoically at Batman's side. His eyes were fixed on the casket, his mind racing with thoughts of what he must do to carry on his mentor's legacy.
Jason Todd was also in attendance, a silent reminder of the danger that Nightwing and Batman faced every day. He stood alone, away from the rest of the mourners, watching with a mixture of sadness and anger.
Barbara Gordon, a longtime ally of Batman and wife of Nightwing, was also present. Her wheelchair was adorned with flowers, and tears streamed down her face as the casket passed by.
As the procession approached the cemetery, Batman's heart weighed heavily in his chest. He couldn't believe that Nightwing was gone. The man he had trained and watched over for so many years was gone forever. The casket was lowered into the ground, and Batman stood silently, lost in thought. The people of Gotham City had lost a hero, but he had lost a son.
As the mourners filed away, Batman was left alone with his grief. He knew that he must carry on, but he didn't know how. Nightwing had been his last hope for Gotham, and now he was gone.
