Now it was getting very late. Nearing midnight.

"I think James is going to have to spend the night here," Luz said. "All the other Toons are asleep, and they can't help now."

Even Luz and Amity were very sleepy as well.

"You two look exhausted," James said. "We are..." Amity said, rubbing her eyes just after yawning. "It was a busy day on set today, since we're wrapping up season 2,"

"How's that going so far?" Trickster asked.

"It's been going good! But there's a lot more to record, and a lot more lines for us to say... it's just been very insane. I honestly can't wait for it to all come together," Luz said, smiling.

"We should worry about James, though," Amity said. She turned, and looked behind her, James was playing with Bendy. He wasn't near them to hear them talking. "He needs to sleep somewhere."

"Well, I do stay with Merlin. There's an extra bed back home, I'm sure Merlin wouldn't mind him staying," Trickster said.

"Well, that's settled then!" Luz said. "At least he has an option."

"Should we meet back here tomorrow morning?" Amity asked.

Trickster nodded. "Yes," he said.

Luz and Amity said bye to them, and went on their way, and Trickster went back to James.

"Hey, James?"

James was having Bendy ride on his shoulders. "Yeah?" James asked, turning around to face Trickster.

Trickster chuckled, looking at both of them. "Did you like, just adopt yourself a son or something?"

James just rolled his eyes, chuckling. "I guess so. Bendy is amazing!" After saying that, Bendy smiled.

"Well, come on. I know you're tired," Trickster said, walking off, just after putting his hand on James's shoulder.

"I am tired, but... where am I going to sleep?"

"I'm sure Merlin wouldn't mind you sleeping with us. Plus, he's probably wondering where we are,"

So, Trickster and James, with Bendy riding on his shoulders, walked through the town to get back to Merlin.

Knock knock knock

They waited for a little while, but then Merlin came to the door.

"Oh? Good heavens, boys, where have you been? I just looked at the time, it's past 12 in the morning!"

"Sorry Merlin!" Trickster said as he entered into the house. "We got really wrapped up in trying to open the gateway,"

"Did that work out?" Merlin asked, shutting the door.

James sighed. "No," he responded. "It didn't."

"Oh dear," Merlin sighed. "I haven't had any luck either. I've been searching through every room, and I still can not find that spell book. I know I had it with me- I was looking through it just the other day!"

"Merlin... sir... what exactly is the book about?"

Merlin turned to James. "It's a book of spells. Any Toon that is gifted the power to use magic, such as myself, can use spells in the book. But there are limited copies. Spells in the book, can change Toon Town. Morph it if you will,"

"Such thing exists?" James asked, a little surprised. "Yes!" Merlin exclaimed. "I remember there being a spell in the book, that can make forces, such as what's blocking the gateway, appear. If there is a spell to make such a thing materialize, there has to be a counter spell to get rid of it,"

James blinked. He looked at Trickster, who just shrugged, then back at Merlin.

Something didn't seem right. "Wait... what did you say?"

"Hm? The counter spell?"

"No, before that."

"The spell that can make forces?"

"Yes!" James said. "If... you need a counter spell to remove something like this, who made it appear?"

Trickster's eyes widen a bit. "Y-Yeah," he turned his head to Merlin. "He's got a point. Who used a spell like that?"

"And... You can't find the book... Does someone have it?"

Trickster gasped. "And they used it to make the force field appear-!"

"Good heavens!" Merlin gasped. "We would be in a dire situation if that book fell into the wrong hands!"

"Nah, I don't think it fell into a human's hands," James.

Merlin put his hand on James's shoulder. "Listen to me, child, just like there are bad humans. There are also bad Toons," Merlin said. James tilted his head. "Huh?"

"You are aware of the story of Judge Doom, right?"

"Yeah, somewhat," James said.

Merlin nodded. "He wanted to destroy Toon Town. Even though he was a Toon himself. He hurt human beings, and got away with it as a cover-up. He was evil. Likewise, he turned on his own kind. No matter what you are, you'll still have bad apples lurking around."

"But... He was working for human beings, wasn't he? He owned a human business, and wanted to destroy Toon Town just to build a freeway. Which is what a lot of human beings did then, and still do till this day," James expressed. "His actions were influenced by humans. It's still human, no matter how you put it,"

Merlin just smiled softly. "All of us Toons are based on humans, one way or another. Even us magic folk. Just some Toons pick up the bad habits, and not the good ones,"

James sighed. "I... I guess you're right,"

"But," Trickster got into the conversation. "What are we going to do? A bad Toon could've gotten a hold of the spellbook... What'll happen?" He asked.

"Well," Merlin rubbed his chin. "There's not much to do. The best we can do is hope nothing else goes wrong. I'm sure if they wanted to hurt us, they would have used a more dire spell. Some of those spells are downright horrible."

James got worried after hearing that.

"Well, tomorrow we can crack this case. You two need sleep. I need sleep, I've been up all day," Merlin said.

"2D toothpaste... and a 2D toothbrush..." James said, looking down at the toothbrush and toothpaste tube that Merlin given him. He was in a room with Trickster.

"Oh, I'm sorry. We should have made a pit stop in CGI-Town to have gotten night supplies that would have been your dimensional size," Trickster said. He came to the door of the bathroom. "Just put it in your mouth, 2D isn't going to kill you, you ate that Anime soup didn't you?"

"Well, that was different. And I was really hung-" James turned his head to face Trickster, and he froze for a little bit. His face was a little red.

"Huh? What is it?" Trickster looked down. "Oh- ... Oops, I should've told you that I like to sleep shirtless,"

James blinked, then looked over at the bed that had Trickster's shirt on it, then looked back at Trickster.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" Trickster ask, tilting his head.

"N-Nothing!" James said, and went to out the toothpaste on his toothbrush. At least he thought it was the toothpaste. He was pumping the soup on it.

"James... You do know you're adding soap?"

James froze.

"... I knew that! Haha... I... was... um... testing to see if you were going to notice!"

Trickster just rolled his eyes. "Yeah, sure..." He said, leaving the bathroom.

James's face was still red, but he tried to hide it.
