Ellie: Age 19
Enid: Age 20
(Seattle Day 2: Hill Crest)
The next morning, both Ellie and Enid had fallen asleep in that theater. They hadn't realized that they needed sleep until they finally got a chance to sit down and relax, even for just a minute.
Enid woke up first and groaned groggily. She tried to move but she felt a light pressure on her shoulder. She looked down and her face went red when she saw Ellie sleeping on her shoulder.
As much as she would love to let Ellie sleep a little bit longer, she needed to wake up since she could hear radio static from above them.
"Ellie? Ellie, c'mon, wake up," Enid said, shaking Ellie by the shoulder with her hand.
Ellie stirred around and moan ed groggily. "Hmm?" she groaned, pushing herself upwards.
"I know you want to sleep more, but I hear something. It's coming from the control room," she said to her.
Ellie had blushed when she saw that she was sleeping on Enid's shoulder.
She looked at her for a second then looked behind her, listening closely.
"Yeah, I hear it too," she said as she got up from the theater seat, picking her backpack up.
Enid got up and stretched her sore arms.
Ellie glanced at her, forgetting how cute Enid looked when she stretched.
"What?" Enid asked, catching the look on Ellie's face.
Ellie smiled and looked away for a moment. "Oh, nothing. Just forgot you are adorable when you stretch," Ellie said with a smile.
"Oh, funny," Enid said with a playful eye roll.
"Oh, come on. It's true and you know it," Ellie said with a smirk.
Enid smirked at her, knowing that Ellie was right.
"Yeah, you know me too well," Enid admitted.
"Told you," Ellie replied, picking her backpack up from the floor.
"Yeah, yeah. Yuck it up," Enid replied, unable to hide the smile on her face.
She picked up her backpack and slung it over her shoulder.
After another exchange of smiles, the duo ran up passed the theater seats.
They ran up another flight of stairs that would lead them to where the radio static was. It was accompanied by the sound of
Dina dry heaving.
"Dina?" Enid said a bit concerned as Ellie opened the door.
Dina was hovered a trash can, dry heaving.
They walked through the door and approached her, seeing the light from the desk gently illuminating the room.
There was a map of Seattle laying on the floor. "Hey," Ellie said.
Dina pushed back and saw them coming in. "How hot do I look right now?" She asked, trying to joke her way through her nausea.
"Pretty hot," Ellie replied with a grin.
Enid rolled her eyes and knelt down in front of the map.
"Whoa, how'd you get it working?" Enid asked, inspecting the radio.
"It was a loose connection or antenna. They found our mess at the school," Dina said to them.
"Good," Ellie replied. "They need to see it. Anyway, what'd you find on here?" Enid asked, kneeling down in front of the map with Ellie.
Dina pointed to a picture of Owen from the map.
"This guy. Owen. Says he went AWOL," Dina said.
Ellie picked up the picture so she and Enid could look at it.
It had him and Abby in it. "You think Tommy got a hold of him?" Ellie wondered.
"Yeah, maybe. Guess we won't know unless we actually do find them. What about her?" Enid said, trying to think logically. She pointed to Abby on the picture.
"Nothing yet," Dina replied with a shrug.
"Unit Romeo, you are requested at site Two. You are requested at site Two. Confirm," someone said from the radio.
"So, the numbers are locations. The TV Station we were at? That's Six.There's a lot of chatter coming out of, so I'm assuming that's their home base..." Dina said, wrapping an arm around her abdomen.
Ellie sat down beside her and she rubbed her back.
Enid felt sympathy for Dina that she had to go through that. She stood up and rubbed the back of her neck.
"I'm gonna... go up front. Take it easy, Dina," Enid said with a forced smile.
Dina glanced up for a moment along with Ellie. "Thanks, Enid," Dina said, with a nod.
Enid nodded back and left the room, but not without looking back at Ellie and Dina for a minute.
She could see how close they were. Too close in fact.
Enid walked down the stairs until she reached the lobby. Sitting down on the couch Dina laid on, a lot of thoughts ran through her mind.
Just seeing Ellie and Dina together made her feel jealous. She hated herself for feeling that. She couldn't hate Dina.
It felt so confusing to her. After a few minutes, Ellie and Dina come down to join her.
"You okay there, Enid?" Ellie asked. Enid glanced up when Ellie spoke.
"Huh? Oh, yeah. I'm fine. Just thinkin'," Enid said, standing up. She had taken off her jacket so that she only was wearing her black shirt with a denim vest.
It exposed her scar from the dog attack a few years ago.
"Okay. Don't need you getting sick too," Ellie said, seeing through Enid's lie.
"Yeah, I know. I just needed a minute. So... we're heading out?" Enid asked, picking her backpack up from the couch and slipping it on her shoulders.
Yeah, we got a pinpoint on Tommy's location," Ellie said as Dina took the chair out of the door.
Dina sighed and sat back down on the couch. Ellie held the door open and was about to walk outside, but she saw Dina's state.
"Dina?" Ellie said, walking back over to her.
"Not good," Dina said, still not feeling well.
Enid looked down for a minute and sighed. She and Ellie knew that Dina couldn't go with them.
"Why don't you stay here and take it easy? We'll go find him," Enid suggested.
"Yeah, sounds good," Ellie agreed, opening the door again. Enid squeezed out of the door, heaving a exhale.
It was gloomy this morning and a bit humid. "Ellie, c'mon," she called, ready to get a move on.
"Alright, I'm coming," Ellie said, coming out after a few minutes. Enid and Ellie would watch out for each other for sure, so Dina didn't have anything to worry about.
They jogged away from the theater.
(Hill Crest)
It was around eleven or so by the time the duo reached Hill Crest.
The streets were covered in grass along with the many cars that was littering the street.
Vines and foliage covered the buildings, the street signs, and bus stops.
"Okay, Hill Crest. Is this the right place?" Ellie wondered, looking at the map.
"Yeah, it is. Finally, that map's good for something. Or maybe you're eyes aren't working right," Enid replied, walking down the street.
"Your sense of humor is still pretty shitty though," Ellie joked.
"It's still better than yours," Enid giggled, smiling a bit.
There was a distant gunshot coming from North of them.
They instantly tensed up when they heard it.
"Did you hear that?" Enid asked, taking her pistol out.
"Yeah, that's gotta be Tommy. Shit," Ellie replied, crouching down.
The two girls make their way over to a clothing store and snuck inside quietly, keeping their flashlights turned off so they wouldn't be spotted.
They gathered a few things before listening closely for anything.
"Ellie, I don't hear anything," Enid said, standing up again and putting her gun in her jeans.
"Yeah, I don't either. Let's find a way outta here," Ellie replied with a sigh.
They maneuvered their way through the basement, turning on their flashlights so they could see.
Enid found some ammo for both of them in the drawers. Then, she walked back to where Ellie was and saw she was holding a piece of paper.
"Whatcha got there?" she asked, walking up to her.
"A drawing. Looks pretty good," Ellie replied, looking at Enid for a second.
It was a drawing of someone holding a bow and arrow, standing over some dead infected.
"Yeah, it is. You're sure you didn't draw that?" Enid commented.
Ellie scoffed and put the paper down. "Psh, nope. Just found it. Besides, I don't know who this is," Ellie said, setting the drawing down on the table she found it.
They grabbed as many supplies as they could before moving on.
They jog up the basement stairs, and go through the back door that led them outside.
There was more grass that went up to their knees and they felt a breeze in the air.
They jog around the corner and hop over a fence and they jog to the end of the street, which had a truck trailer sitting on its side.
Ellie jumps up first before kneeling down to help Enid up. Enid jumped and grabbed Ellie's hand, who hoisted her up.
"Thanks," she said. "Not a problem," Ellie replied, looking ahead of them.
"How do we get up there?" she asked, seeing where they needed to go.
There were many trees covering their path, so it would be difficult to get to where they needed to go.
"Maybe we can try- Shit!" Enid started, but the sound of an engine stopped her. They both see a WLF pick up truck driving away with some of them sitting in the bed of it.
The two girls watched as the truck drove away and out of sight.
"There's too many of these assholes," Ellie whispers to Enid.
"Yeah. Gotta be careful. Hold on, Uncle Tommy," Enid said, standing back up with Ellie.
They jumped down from the truck and landed on the road below it.
There was a sink hole that had a couple of small waterfalls going in the hole.
They saw a rule banner from the WLF hanging on the wall. They hated the WLF with a passion. They searched through a coffee shop and a book store, but didn't find much of anything.
Once they were done with that, they found a trail and followed it and it led them to the back of another building.
However, they would have to climb up thanks to an abundance of debris.
"C'mon, let's get up here," Ellie said, climbing up. "Right behind ya," Enid replied, climbing up after her.
The door was boarded up so they had to break one of the windows.
They hop over the window sill and we're inside a post office.
They searched through the small room and found some ammo. Enid had spotted a not sitting on the moss-covered table.
She picked it up and turned her flash light on so she can read it.
"What you got there?" Ellie asked, seeing what Enid was reading.
Enid glanced over at Enid for a second. "Look at this," she said, holding the note out so Ellie could also read it.
What did we get ourselves into? The Wolves were supposed to make things better. The military hoarded all the resources, controlled what we said, told us what job to do and so far the Wolves are doing the same exact thing... and now they're talking about moving everyone to the stadium. WHAT?!
I grew up in this town. I survived the outbreak in this town. I'm not moving to some refugee camp where some asshole tells me when I can or can't wipe my own ass. This is my home.
We need a plan! We can't settle for the same thing!
-Uli
"This guy sounded desperate," Enid replied, setting the note back on the table. "Yeah, sounds like it," Ellie replied with a shoulder shrug.
They left the post office and go back down the sink hole and back up the way they came down.
Going back into town, they found a building that had a ladder attached to it. They both climb up and go across the building.
"Ellie, over here," Enid called, waving Ellie over to a hole in the roof of the next building that had plants
Ellie walked over and saw where Enid was talking about.
That would be their way to the next area..
Talhey leaped over the fence that blocked them off from the next building.
After jumping down, they found themselves in knee height grass.
"This is dumb, we should be pushing in," a WLF soldier asked exasperated.
Ellie and Enid instantly crouched down the second they heard that voice.
They crouch walk to the one of the boarded up windows and they peek over the small opening.
There was two of them with a dog, a German Shepherd.
Enid felt her heart jump into her throat when she saw that dog, knowing it was an attack dog.
She looked down at her scarred arm from when Princess had attacked her.
Ellie saw the fear cross Enid's face, knowing how she was afraid of dogs because of what happened.
"We hold the perimeter until we here otherwise. Keep an eye out in case he comes this way," the other soldier said.
The dog catches Ellie and Enid's scents and it barked and growled in their direction.
"I got something!" one soldier shouted.
"Shit!" Ellie cursed, pulling Enid away from that window. They ran through the door that was across the room and Ellie pulled inside the next room, closing the door behind them.
They both heard those doors burst open and they heard the dog walking around, trying to find their scents.
They were listened in on the conversation between the two of them.
They talked about Ellie, Enid, and Dina being connected with whoever this male trespasser was.
Ellie moved up a bit and saw a way out of that building. She went back for Enid and motioned for her to follow.
Enid stayed crouched, gun pulled out. They went back outside and made their way behind a car.
They both hear that dog following them. It was sniffing around.
Ellie picked up a bottle and threw it quite a ways from them.
The loud sound got the two soldiers and the dog's attention.
While they were distracted, Ellie and Enid sneak to the building closest to them, which had a crevice in the brick wall.
They go inside one at a time, staying crouched the entire time.
Enid went ahead of Ellie, finding the back door. They went to the next building and slink their way inside, seeing that it was once a store.
Enid peeked over a shelf she and Ellie hid behind and saw another soldier walking with their dog by their side.
She dropped down the second she saw them. "There's one coming from the front door," she whispered, pointing towards the door.
Ellie picked up a bottle and threw it passed the soldier to grab his attention.
The soldier and his dog followed the sound, turning away from the hidden duo.
They moved up and saw a red door, providing them their escape.
"That's our way out," Ellie said quietly.
They watched the other soldiers were walking around completely undetected of the two girls that were army crawling towards those doors.
Ellie threw another brick away from them, distracting another soldier.
They were able to make it to the red doors. Enid helped Ellie with the door, occasionally looking back to see if the soldiers had spotted them.
Thankfully, they didn't and they managed to get through it.
Enid went through first then Ellie, who pushed a heavy crate in front of the door then she locked it.
"Fuck these WLF," Ellie groaned. She looked over at Enid, who held herself up by pressing her hands to her knees.
She tried to breathe normally after seeing those dogs. It was something she couldn't help.
She couldn't have a panic attack, not now.
"Enid? Hey. Hey, look at me," Ellie said, walking over to her and placing her hands on Enid's shoulders.
"Huh?" Enid asked, feeling Ellie touch her shoulders. It made her jump a bit.
"You okay?" Ellie asked her.
"Oh, um… yeah. That was too fucking close…" Enid replied, clearing her throat.
Ellie knew her long enough to know that it was those dogs that bothered her.
"It was those dogs, wasn't it?" Ellie asked, knowing Enid had gained PTSD from that dog attack and she hadn't felt the same about them since.
Enid looked up at her for a minute and shook her hands.
"Yeah, it was. I'm glad they didn't see us. I can't go through that again. Fuck, I don't want you going through that," Enid replied, rubbing the back of her neck.
Ellie walked over and hugged Enid assuringly, wrapping one arm around her waist and the other around her back. It wasn't the same hug they had when they reunited.
Enid hugged back, both arms around Ellie's neck, just a bit tighter. It'd been a while since they've had a real hug.
Ellie's hugs always gave Enid comfort. It never failed to make her feel okay again.
After a minute, they break the hug.
"You okay?" Ellie asked her. Enid smiled a bit and looked at her old friend.
"Now I am. Thank you for helping me. I really needed one of your hugs," Enid replied.
"You know that they never fail to help. Look, I don't want you to have another panic attack while we find Tommy," Ellie said.
"Can't make any promises. C'mon. Let's get the fuck outta here," Enid said with a gulp.
They found themselves in the storage area that'd lead them out of there.
Grass grew from the floor and on some tipped over barrels that sat in one of the corners.
They grab some supplies from a shelf before walking through an open doorway that looked to be a dining area of some sort.
There was a catwalk staircase that ked to a loading bay with a few garages.
"Maybe we can get up here," Enid said, pointing up at smaller building that could get them outta there.
"Yeah sounds good. Just need something to climb on," Ellie agreed.
"Maybe I can give you a boost?" Enid suggested, "I mean, you can't be that heavy,"
"Very funny. You're probably heavier than me," Ellie replied, rolling her green eyes.
"The hell I am. You always gotta tease me for that?" Enid scoffed.
"Always have to," Ellie said, giving Enid a playful shove, "Just kidding,"
"Sure you were," Enid scoffed, walking over to the building.
"Alright, you go first and you pull me up," Enid said, locking her fingers together.
Ellie walked over and placed her foot in Enid's hands.
"Alright, get me up there," Ellie said, looking up at the roof.
Enid hoisted Ellie up with one good push. After crawling up, Ellie turned around and she knelt down to help Enid up.
"Alright, gimme your hand," she said, extending a hand down towards Enid.
Enid jumped and grabbed Ellie's hand with both hands, pressing her feet against the wall to help her climb.
Ellie pulled her up with an audible grunt.
"Thanks, El," Enid said. "Not a problem," Ellie said, remembering how Enid always called her that.
They jumped down to the other side of the small garage so they were behind a fence. There was a large hole in the wall of the connected brick building.
Ellie goes in first before Enid. It looked they were in the back room of a workshop.
They gathered some things from the moldy shelves. However, this was actually a bike store with bikes still sitting on the racks.
Both girls leave that bike shop and see they made it on the other side of Hill Crest.
Enid took a second to sight see before moving on. She then saw an actual tattoo shop and she smirked, knowing Ellie had a tattoo on her right forearm.
"Hey, Ellie! Check it out," she said, walking inside. "What? Oh, an actual tattoo shop," Ellie said, following her.
"You think I oughta get one? When we're done with this whole thing?" Enid asked, looking at the abundance of artwork that was inside a tattoo book.
"Yeah, maybe one of those characters from Savage Starlight or something. Maybe even a rose with those vines on it?" Ellie suggested.
Enid smirked and nodded to the side.
"Yeah, that actually sounds like a good idea. Maybe you can get Cat to hook me up," she replied.
"Yeah, might just do that," Ellie agreed.
Enid would have to keep that idea in her head. They leave after getting some things before moving on.
They found another building that had another dumpster parked in front of the back door.
Ellie moved it out of the way and Enid opened the door, only to hear infected inside the building.
"What the fuck!?" Ellie exclaimed.
"Watch out!" Enid shouted, pulling her pistol out and she started to shoot at the infected.
"Run!" Ellie cursed as she started to sprint away from the on coming infected.
Enid sprinted behind her and they climbed over a fence. But that didn't stop the infected.
They chased the girls towards the street, screeching and screaming loudly.
"Watch out!" Ellie shouted, trying to avoid getting grabbed.
Enid raised her pistol and fired a couple of rounds, striking a runner.
But those were her last shots. "Oh, fuck!" she shouted as a clicker tackled her to the ground.
"Get the fuck off!" she shouted, trying to keep herself from getting bitten by the clicker.
"Enid!" Ellie exclaimed, running to Enid's aid. She stabbed the clicker and pulled it off of her best friend.
Ellie pulled Enid up to her feet and the two make a run for it before what's left of the infected chased them.
"Go! Run!" Ellie shouted, hearing the horde closing in on them.
They both felt their hearts pounding in their chests as they made a break for a near by pet groomers.
Hopping into the back, they thought they were safe but a single shambler stumbled into the pet shop.
Enid stayed crouched by the wall with Ellie, who had thrown a molotov in its direction.
Enid heard the shambler scream from the next room and heard the flames of the molotov burn it up.
The shambler hopped over the room window while it was on fire.
"Oh shit, run!" Enid shouted, jumping over the counter with Ellie in hot pursuit.
They bolt out of that pet shop, run across the street and over the same fence they came through.
However, the infected wouldn't stop following them though, no matter where they went.
"Get off!" Ellie shouted as a clicker jumped on her. It swung its arms and snapped its teeth at Ellie's neck.
Enid didn't hesitate to come to Ellie's aid.
"Get the fuck off of her!" she shouted, driving her knife in the clickers neck and pulled it off of Ellie.
She kicked it away and drove her knife again and again into its fungal covered body, killing it.
They take care of the shambler and the rest of the infected.
"Man... that was fucking intense. Are you okay?" Enid asked, trying to catch her breath.
"Yeah, I think so. You?" Ellie replied, standing up with an exhale.
"Yeah. No bites," Enid answered, looking at her arms and felt around her neck.
No bites for sure.
"Thank god. Let's go," Ellie sighed in relief.
They work their way around and eventually found a staircase that would take them to the next area.
Bang!
"Whoa, what was that?" Ellie asked.
"Sounded like an explosion. Came from up there," Enid replied, jogging faster up the scars.
They make it to the top of the stairs and see black smoke rising up in the distance.
"Holy shit..." Ellie said, looking at the smoke.
"Hope you did that, Uncle Tommy," Enid sighed.
Their thoughts were interrupted by the sound of more infected running at them.
"Oh fuck!" Enid shouted.
"Run! There's too many!" Ellie cried out, sprinting through the neighborhood.
Enid looked over her shoulder as she sprinted behind Ellie. There was too many
to fight off.
They hopped over a fence and bolt into an open house through the back door.
It was dark in there so they had to turn on their flashlights.
"Okay, we need to look around and see what we can find," Ellie said after catching her breath.
"Yeah, sounds good. I'll look on this side of the house," Enid replied, using her thumb to point behind her.
"Okay, I'll check the garage," Ellie replied.
"Be careful," Enid said, taking Ellie's hand and squeezed it.
Ellie felt her cheeks become hot for a moment. It was a feeling she hadn't felt for Enid in a few years.
"I will," Ellie replied, reciprocating the action.
Enid blushed too. They let go of each other's hands and went their separate ways.
Enid held her gun up as she looked through the bedroom and found some ammo.
While she was looking through the room, she heard Ellie scream from the garage.
"Ellie!" Enid shouted, running out of that room.
She ran to the garage and saw that the door was blocked off.
Ellie was fighting off something in that garage from what she could hear.
"Ellie! Oh, shit!" she shouted, trying to break the door by using her shoulder.
It scared her that she couldn't get to Ellie.
She turned and bolted outside to the garage, seeing that it was shut and locked.
The backyard she was in had three mannequins with targets painted on their torsos. One stood in front of a car that sat on the concrete part of the yard.
Enid began panicking because she wasn't there to protect Ellie.
"Ellie! Fucking talk to me!" Enid shouted, trying to open the garage.
But it wouldn't budge at all. Soon, there was silence inside the garage.
"Ellie? Ellie, are you alright?" Enid called out. "Yeah, I'm good!" Ellie shouted from the other side.
Enid's heart dropped in relief that her old friend was okay.
Ellie unlocked the garage and she lifted it open.
Enid watched her old friend walk out and went over to hug her.
"Whoa, take it easy. I'm fine, okay? I handled that fucker pretty nicely on my own, thank you," Ellie assured.
"Yeah, I know you can. When the hell are you gonna start listening to me on being careful?" Enid asked, getting Ellie to grin.
"Not any time soon. I oughta tell you the same thing," Ellie replied with a smirk.
"Unlike you, I'm actually careful. *
"What the fuck was that?" Enid asked.
"Fucking stalker," Ellie sighed, adjusting her backpack.
*Sees bow and arrow* Did that come off that stalker?"Enid asked.
"Hell yeah. It's in good condition too. Wanna get some practice?" Ellie asked, taking the bow off her shoulders.
Enid looked at the three mannequins that were in the yard.
"Yeah. There's only one way to use mannequins," Enid said with a nod, "You go first since you found the damn thing,"
"Thank you," Ellie said with a smug grin.
She pulled back on the string of the bow and she aimed it at the closest mannequin.
"Let's see..." she said as she aimed the arrow.
She let the arrow go and it struck the target.
"Wow, nice shot," Enid said sheepishly.
"I'll take your compliment. Here, see if you can get that one way down there," Ellie said, pointing to the mannequin that was furthest away.
"If you insist," Enid replied with an eye roll, taking the bow and arrow.
She pulled back the string on the bow and aimed it at the furthest mannequin.
"Hold it steady..." she whispered before firing.
It struck the mannequins' head, knocking it off its shoulders.
"You... dick," Ellie said, looking at Enid with an impressed expression on her face.
"What can I say? Kid's still got it," Enid replied with a shrug and smirked at Ellie.
"Oh shut up," Ellie replied, playfully shoving Enid.
"You love me and you know it," Enid said teasingly.
"Yeah, yeah," Ellie said with an eye roll.
The two gather their arrows, seeing that they had enough practice.
They hopped over a wooden fence to get to the next area, where they landed in tall grass.
It was another neighborhood they ended up in.
"Hey! Dogs picked up something down the hill! Think he's down here!" a WLF soldier called out to a fellow member.
"No way! He's still up here! Just blew up one of our fucking trucks!" his accomplice replied.
Ellie and Enid gasped quietly as they see the soldiers patrolling the area.
"Oh, fuck..." Ellie whispered, keeping her voice low.
After some banter, they were told to spread out, fearing there was multiples.
Enid, while crouched in the grass, glanced over at Ellie for a moment.
"You go that way. I'll flank those assholes," Enid whispered, pointing behind her.
"Okay... be careful..." Ellie whispered, having a worried expression on her face.
"You know I will," Enid whispered back, squeezing Ellie's hand.
She felt it shake in her own. Enid gave her a 'We'll-make-it-through-this' look.
Ellie gave her a smile before they went their separate ways.
Enid army crawled through the tall grass and crawled into the closest house.
She prayed that there wasn't any dogs with these soldiers; she couldn't risk having another panic attack.
She got up to a crouching position to grab some scissors. Afterwards, she made her way over to a large hole in the floor, where the living room was.
She couldn't rest for long though because she heard a soldier coming so she hid behind a sofa, listening for them to come in.
She pulled her knife and opened the blade since shooting them would only draw their attention.
Peeking over the back of the sofa, she saw that the soldier didn't have a dog with them.
As quietly as she could, she snuck her way over to the lone soldier, knife drawn.
When she got close enough, she jumped up and grabbed the soldier, slitting her throat.
"Not a fucking word..." Enid hissed as she killed the soldier, dropping her to the ground before sneaking through the back door.
She stayed hidden in the grass and peeked over a short wall to get a look at who's coming next.
But she saw Ellie from across the way, taking out a soldier by stabbing him in the throat.
"There you go..." Enid whispered with a grin.
She could hear more soldiers coming her direction so she got down to her belly into the long grass and gripped on her knife.
Looking up at a roof, she saw another soldier get taken down by one of Ellie's arrows.
That gave Enid enough time to get to the next house before she was spotted.
She slinked her way through another house, and jumped down from the roof to the first floor and into the next yard, sprinting her way over there.
"Let's check over here," a female soldier said.
Enid runs passed a dog, which alerted the others with its loud barking. She looked behind her for a second before jumping out of another window.
However, when she jumped down, she had accidentally landed on Ellie, who happened to run passed there, making them fall on the ground.
"Ow, fuck!" Ellie cursed, feeling Enid's full weight crash down onto her.
Enid felt the wind get knocked out of her for a moment. She couldn't get up right away.
"Whst the fuck!?" Ellie cursed, seeing it was Enid that crashed into her.
"Owww, shit... sorry..." Enid groaned, sitting up.
They couldn't sit and talk for long because the soldiers were coming their way.
"C'mon!" Enid shouted, grabbing Ellie's hand and the two sprint through the neighborhood, getting the attention of more dogs.
"No! Fuck!" Ellie shouted. They both jumped down to a basement.
"They dropped down there!" a soldier yelled out.
"Smoke them out!" another ordered. The girls didn't stop running to get out of the crossfire.
"Fuck! Go!" Enid cursed as she shot a soldier in the face, following Ellie up the basement stairs.
They run up and make their way upstairs, where more soldiers were at.
"They're up here!" A female soldier called out, charging at them with a machete.
Ellie dodged the attack and managed to disarm the woman. She grabbed her machete and used it to stab the soldier, killing her.
They sprint out of that house and jumped down to where the back alleys were.
"This way!" Enid exclaimed, sprinting through a burnt down house with Ellie behind her, breathing heavily.
"They ran through there!!" another shouted, sounding closer to them.
The two women jump down from a ledge to get to the ground floor, only to get grabbed from behind, hands covering their mouths.
As expected, they both fought to get loose. Enid had bitten down on the hand hard, getting whoever had her to let go.
"Ow! Dammit!" He yelled out, getting the girls to freeze, they recognized that voice.
Slowly, they turn around and see none other than Jesse. "What the hell are you do?" Ellie asked in disbelief.
Jesse leaned against wall, shaking the hand Enid had bitten.
"Think I'd let you two do this on your own?" He asked.
"Jesse..." Enid sighed, "Sorry for biting you like that,"
"Nah, don't worry about it. I probably deserved it. You do bite pretty hard," Jesse said, "Where's Dina?"
Ellie glanced down and sighed. "She's safe. She's just sick," Ellie said.
"What kind of sick?" Jesse asked, now worried.
"She's fine," Ellie said more tensely.
"Fan out! They went this way!" a soldier shouted.
Enid and Ellie looked around the doorway; More soldiers were outside, looking for them.
"Christ, there's a lot of them," Jesse said quietly.
Jesse started to sneak towards the back.
"Hey, you hurt any?" Enid asked him, feeling bad for biting his hand.
"I'll live," Jesse replied, "Your friends out there rushed me without a warning or any,"
The trio crouched down so nobody would see them.
"Please tell us you didn't come alone," Ellie asked quietly.
Jesse glanced over at them. The look on his face didn't assure them at all.
"Gimme shit about it later," Jesse said with a smirk.
The girls roll their eyes, clearly annoyed by this.
"You're a fucking idiot, you know that, right?" Ellie groaned.
"Yeah, you're just gonna get yourself killed," Enid agreed with her.
They all crouched by a boarded up window. There was an opening wide enough for them to see outside.
Just outside was a WLF truck with a few soldiers surrounding it.
It wouldn't be easy getting to that truck without a fight.
"Alright, see that truck?" Jesse asked.
Ellie looked over at him, eyebrows raised.
"That's your plan?" she asked in complete disbelief.
"It's better than nothing if we want to get outta here," Enid said, looking outside with a hand on the window sill.
"At least someone here agrees. Besides, we need to get done distance," Jesse whispered, sneaking his way through the front door.
Ellie and Enid slowly followed him outside, hiding behind some fences that kept them out of sight.
The girls hid on one side while Jesse hid behind the other.
Enid pulled out her gun and made sure it was loaded.
"Over here!" a female soldier shouted, knowing where the trio was.
They would have no choice but to fight back instead of going stealthy.
Ellie raised up and shot a soldier in the head, blowing their head off before dropping back down.
Enid raised up and shot two with her shotgun, killing them instantly then dropped back down.
Jesse took aim and fired his gun at them, striking a few.
The soldiers started to fire back at them.
"Ellie, on your right!" Enid shouted as she saw one coming from her right side.
Ellie quickly turned and fired her gun at the oncoming soldier but ended up missing.
More came around the corner from where the truck sat. The trio fired back at them.
"Hell," Jesse whispered.
After a while, they were able to get to the truck. "I'll get the keys!" Jesse shouted.
The truck had a backseat Enid could have a place to sit.
Ellie got in the passenger seat and Jesse jumped in the driver's seat.
"The car!" a soldier shouted, seeing the trio steal their car.
Enid turned to look behind them, seeing that more were coming. "Fuck, go Jesse!" she shouted.
"I'm trying to!" Jesse shouted, turning the truck on. He hit the gas pedal, jerking them forward.
"Give it more gas!" Ellie shouted in a alight panic.
Ellie and Enid aimed their guns from the shattered back window, shooting at any soldier they see.
Jesse was struggling to get the truck to turn over.
"Jesse, get us the fuck out of here!" Ellie shouted, taking out a few soldiers.
Jesse turned the key in the ignition again and the truck started finally.
"Yes-- Ahh!" Jesse yelled out as a WLF soldier grabbed him from behind him through the driver's side.
"Jesse!" the girls shouted. Ellie shot the guy who had a hold of him, making him release Jesse.
"Jesus!" Jesse gasped as he sat up right in the driver's seat.
The car jolted again forward again and more soldiers started to come out.
"Watch it!" Ellie shouted, firing her pistol at them. "Go! Now!" Enid exclaimed, also shooting at the soldiers.
"Get the tyres!" one shouted. "Don't let them escape!" another ordered.
Jesse reversed the truck and it pinned another soldier against another car.
When the guy started to wake up, Enid didn't hesitate to shoot him in the head.
Jesse then floors it and they speed down the road with the WLF behind them.
"Go, go!" Ellie exclaimed urgently. Then, a humvee that the WLF had charged and crashed into them.
The humvee drove passed them and started shooting at the trio, to which Ellie and Enid fired back at them through the windshield.
The humvee swerved left and right as the soldiers were shooting at the trio.
Enid shot a few as they come around their right side. She ended up getting a bullet to the left arm, grazing it.
"Agh!" she yelled out, jolting back a bit from the impact of the bullet.
"Enid!" Ellie shouted when she saw her friend getting shot.
Jesse yelled out for Ellie to take out the driver, and she does.
For a moment, the humvee drove out of control. It had driven off a broken part of the road, bumping the truck.
It caused Jesse to lose control of the truck and they crash into a tree, cracking the windshield.
Jesse used his foot to kick out the windshield with his foot.
They saw infected coming from the trees, watching as two tackled a WLF soldier to the ground, tearing them to pieces.
"You gotta be kidding me... come on!" Jesse gasped, trying to get the truck to reverse.
There was a whole horde of infected coming in their direction.
Jesse got the broken truck to reverse away from the infected, but it didn't do much good.
"Holy shit!!" Enid shouted, shooting at the infected through the knocked out windshield.
"Oh my god!" Ellie shouted, shooting at them, managing to hit a few of them.
A runner jumped through the opened passenger window and grabbed Ellie. It tried to bite her as she fought it off.
Enid jumped forward and shot the infected in the head to get it off Ellie.
Jesse was having a hard time trying to drive while the infected were charging at them.
"Dammit!" He cursed, now driving through the infected, running some of them over.
A clicker ended up jumping on the hood and tried to crawl inside the truck cab.
"Get off!" Enid shouted, trying to shoot the clicker.
"Motherfucker!" Ellie cursed loudly, shooting the clicker.
They drive off the side of a cliff and into water below them. They didn't have time to catch their breath because the truck sank into the water, submerging it completely.
They had no choice but to swim out. Ellie and Jesse were able to get out of the truck easily, but Enid was having a hard time trying to get out.
She began to panic and struggled to get loose.
She saw Ellie and Jesse swim out, failing to see that Enid hadn't gotten out. Looking around, she found that her foot was caught in the seat belt.
She managed to get her foot loose and she swam out of the truck, opening her mouth to take a breath, but ended up swallowing water.
She swam up and up until she broke through the surface, taking a deep breath the second she did.
Jesse and Ellie were already at the bank, catching their breaths.
Enid crawled out of the water, coughing as she did. "You guys okay?" Ellie asked, kneeling down by them.
"Never better," Jesse said, completely out of breath.
"Yeah, I'm good. Out of breath, but good," Enid replied, sitting up with her arms on her knees.
Ellie looked around the wooded area and she could see that they were cleared.
"Okay, I think we're in the clear," she said.
"Oh, thank god, Enid sighed in relief, holding onto her grazed arm.
Ellie saw her holding onto her arm pretty tightly. The water had washed away the blood , but only for a minute.
"Your arm's bleeding. We need to get that fixed up when we get back," Ellie said, standing up after helping her and Jesse up.
"I'm fine," Enid said, obviously lying.
"You're bullshitting. We need to fix it before it gets infected," Ellie said, seeing right through her.
"Okay," Enid sighed.
Ellie looked over at Jesse and told him the way to the theater.
(Theater)
The three of them make it back to the theater.
It was more muggier than it was before.
Enid's upper arm was bleeding again and it began to ache.
"Dina!" Ellie called after knocking on the door. Dina opened the door a few seconds later.
"Hey, you guys," she said, hugging both of them. Jesse was leaning against the other door, holding himself up by his hand.
Dina didn't hesitate to walk up to him and she hugged him.
"Hey, Dina. Oh!" Jesse exclaimed when she hugged him.
"Hey. You okay?" Dina asked him.
"Nothing a little sleep won't take care of. However, Enid took a bullet to the arm," Jesse assured.
"It grazed me. It's nothing I haven't dealt with before," Enid said, gently waving her hand with a head shake.
Ellie looked over at Enid for a minute.
"We should get inside," she said.
"Yeah, let's go," Dina replied, gently leading Jesse inside with Enid behind them. Ellie came in last and shut the door, locking it up by setting the same chair she used before.
Jesse and Dina were having a conversation about how he was able to get passed Maria so easily.
"My friends' problems are my problems. I heard you're sick?" Jesse replied humbly.
"Oh, its... it's just a stomach thing. Cmon', let's sit you down, yeah?" Dina replied, getting him to sit down on the couch.
Enid looked over at them for a minute and sighed.
"I'm gonna get my arm checked out," she said, going back upstairs to the room where
the theater part was.
"I'm coming with you. You aren't gonna be able to stitch it up yourself if you need it," Ellie said.
Enid glimpsed at her, seeing that Ellie was following her.
Her heart raced in her chest, feeling kind of shaky.
She did still have feelings for Ellie. In her heart, she did. Even after her and Joel told Ellie the truth, she still loved her though she felt like she didn't deserve it.
They go inside one of the dressing rooms and Enid sat down on the ottoman.
Ellie moved Enid's arm, seeing that the wound was deep enough to require stitches.
Don't worry, Ellie will ask about Enid's jealousy after this next chapter.
A review would be appreciated. Thank you.
