Hey guys. You may or may not have read my other ongoing story, Rise of the new era, which is an AU fic of Naruto. This is a for want of a nail type fic, where there is one small change that drastically changes the storyline. This is inspired in part by a couple other fics, the primary one being Obito Sensei. I'm excited to see how this goes, and I hope you all enjoy this. And as always, all right to Naruto and it's characters belong to one Masashi Kishimoto. Also, unlike my other fic, this will focus solely on the pov of Sakura.
The chatter in the class was loud, as Iruka sensei walked in. He looked a little worn out for some reason, but maybe he was just tired. As the chatter didn't stop, Iruka yelled out loud, "Silence!"
After seeing the class quite down, he coughed and continued.
"As you all know, today is the day you become genin. Under the reign of the Yondaime Hokage, our Shinobi village of Konoha has reached greater heights than ever. It is our duty as it's shinobi to ensure that we remain prosperous. When you put on your headband, you swear an oath to dedicate the rest of your lives to the village. I hope you all understand what I mean, and serve the village accordingly. With that said, I will now announce the teams."
Iruka sensei started rattling off names, but most of them weren't people she was particularly close to, so she looked out of the window as she thought about the future. Her parents had been so proud when she'd passed through the exams. She was one of the few civilian borns who'd actually succeeded. She was happy about it herself, though she'd noticed a tension in the air for the past few years. She turned her attention back to her sensei. She wondered what kind of team she'd be put in. Some of her friends really wanted to be in the same team as Sasuke and Naruto. The latter wasn't her type, though she could understand his popularity. As the son of the Fourth and with a nice and enthusiastic personality, he was likable, albeit a little spoilt by praise and attention. But Sasuke...
She sighed hotly. The Uchiha was frankly ridiculously good-looking, and was just her type. Though there were only a handful of people he got along with, including one Namikaze Naruto. She looked over the rest of the room. Shino was strong, but a little creepy and not very talkative. She got along well enough with Ino. Hinata was quiet and shy, with a blatant crush on Naruto. But she was nice. Choji ate a lot, and was one of the slackers, right alongside Shikamaru. She'd rather not be in their teams. Kiba was a loudmouth, who frequently picked fights with Naruto, which she put down to a clash of similar personalities. But since Naruto was popular, this just got him the ire of many fans of the son of the Fourth. But he had a cute puppy. She took a look at the seal she'd halfheartedly been doodling. It was a simple storage seal. Over the past few years, sealing had become one of the most popular classes, largely because it was taught by the wife of the fourth. According to Kushina sensei, she was a natural.
Just then, her name was called out. "Sakura Haruno, Hinata Hyuga and Naruto Namikaze." She left out a soft whine to herself, but didn't say anything more. Well, it wasn't a bad team overall. She tried to ignore the stares of the many fans Naruto had, including her best friend, Ino Yamanaka. She shrugged helplessly.
"Your sensei will be Kakashi Hatake, and you'll be Team 7." She whistled at that. The One-eyed Owl, Lightning Fist Kakashi. It was probably arranged for Naruto's sake, she couldn't tell why else such an elite jonin was arranged for her team. She felt subconscious about her lower status now. She was stuck between the Hyuga heir and the son of the Fourth. She ignored the stares and tried to listen to Iruka sensei. Naruto on the other hand seemed happy about it, as he cheered out loud. He got up and asked "Awesome. Where is Kakashi ni-san anyway ?" Iruka sighed and replied "It's Kakashi sensei now Naruto. And to answer your question, he'll probably arrive later." Naruto grumbled at that, and said "Figures" as he sat down, though his mood didn't go down one bit.
"Ino Yamanaka, Shikamaru Nara, and Choji Akimichi, your sensei will be Kurenai Yuhi, and you'll be Team 8." So the Ino-Shika-Cho, as per usual. Well, that made sense. She'd never heard of a Kurenai Yuhi, but the Yuhi clan was well known. Just then, the door opened and a gorgeous woman walked in. "Kurenai Yuhi, here to pick up Team 8." Woah, Ino was so lucky. Maybe she could ask to switch ? But then she'd be with Choji and Shikamaru, who were far worse than her current teammates, who she at least liked.
"Sasuke Uchiha, Shino Aburame and Kiba Inuzuka, your sensei will be Sarutobi Asuma, and you'll be Team 10." The son of the Third. Not bad at all. And it had Sasuke. And again, the door opened and a bearded jonin walked in and called for Team 10. She watched as Sasuke and the others walked out. Fate was so unfair. She watched as all the teams were picked up by their sensei, until they were the only ones left. By this point, Naruto had come up to sit next to her, while calling for Hinata to do the same. While Naruto was in a middle of a rant about how annoying it was for Kakashi ni-san to do this and how he'd totally tell on him later on, the door opened, and a grey-haired masked man walked in. "Yo. So this is my team." Naruto immediately got in and yelled, "You're late Kakashi ni-san. I'll tell on you to dad."
Their sensei sighed and said "It's sensei now Naruto." He looked at them, and she suddenly felt like he was seeing right through her. It was unnerving. He abruptly said "All right, first to the roof does ten push-ups." He then disappeared in a swirl of leaves. What ? Naruto was already bolting out of the room, and Hinata wasn't far behind. Dammit. She looked out the window. She'd learnt how to walk on walls from Kushina sensei, who'd said she had the chakra control for it while they were discussing seals. So she leapt out the window and started running up as fast as she could. By the time she got there, her sensei was already there. He eye smiled at her and said "You know how to treewalk already. Excellent. Maybe at least one of you has some hope, neh Naruto." A few seconds later, Naruto ran through the open doors, while panting hard. Hinata came soon after.
"All right, that's shown me enough. If this much gets you tired, you guys have a long way to go. Hinata, you were last, so so ten push-ups. Naruto and Sakura, introduce yourselves."
She raised her hand and asked, "Um, Sensei. What exactly do we say ?" He shrugged and said "Oh you know, your name, likes and dislikes, and goals for the future. Things like that."
Naruto went first, and said "I'm Naruto Namikaze. Remember the name! I love ramen, especially when it's from Ichiraku, dislike the wait before ramen is done, my hobby is taking care of plants and my goal is to be a badass ninja better than my Dad." Just how much did he like ramen ? Though this info could be useful for his fangirls. Ino would be happy about it at least.
Their sensei just nodded and said "All right. Pinky, you're next."
She scowled at the nickname, but ignored it as she answered "I'm Sakura Haruno. I like ..." This probably wasn't a good place to mention a crush. "Sealing and reading, and I dislike anything spicy. My goal is to become a strong shinobi who the village can be proud of."
Kakashi said "All right then. Hyuga, you're next." Hinata, who'd finished the push-ups, finally spoke in a timid voice. "I'm Hinata Hyuga. I like cinnamon rolls, I dislike cruelty, my hoppy is pressing flowers, and my goal is to be a worthy heir to my clan." She noticed the pause and glance towards Naruto, and the hesitation on the last part. Though Naruto seemed oblivious as always. He got up and pointed at their sensei "All right, now it's your turn ni-san."
He casually replied "Oh me ? I'm Hatake Kakashi. I have no desire to tell you my likes and dislikes… My dreams for the future… Hmm… As for my hobbies… I have lots of hobbies…"
Naruto groaned at that. Their sensei ignored him as he continued speaking. "Now, I have a certain test that I typically use, but since Naruto is here I'm going to have to switch things up. Listen carefully."
She could swear he was smirking, but listened as he explained the rules.
A/N
I hope you enjoyed that. This just establishes the basic setting and teams. Minato and Kushina are alive, and Kakashi has a Byakugan, not a Sharingan. A couple of stats below. I've come up with a certain stats system that I'll also be using in my other fic. I personally love stats like these, so I use them very often. Anyways, this is probably going to more light-hearted at the beginning, since there aren't many active threats. Heavy focus on team bonding, and I plan on exploring sealing in depth, with the workings and stuff like that.
