At the sorting, Draco went up to Dursley "Malfoy, Draco Malfoy." Dudley clasped his hand and shook it. "The more the merrier, right?" "I'm sorry about your cousin." "It's no big deal. He doesn't know what he's missing and I'm not going to rub it in."
Dudley walked up to the sorting hat. His mom warned him that the hat talks and explained the sorting to him. To a majority of the castle's surprise, Dudley was sorted into Slytherin.
"No way!" Was screamed from the table. "We don't want no mudblood." "Especially not someone who stole Potter's magic!"
Sparks flew to the room. "Enough. What the hat says is final." Dumbledore commanded.
Dudley was happy when Draco got sorted in Slytherin too. He was a little sad Neville was sorted in a supposed rival house. But he wasn't going to allow that to be an issue.
Dudley sat beside Draco in potions. Neville awkwardly sat in the seat Draco saved for him. Dudley patted him on the back, "You can't avoid our friendship." He joked. "You don't mind I'm a Gryffindor?" Neville asked, "Or that my family are known as blood traitors?" Draco shook his head, "I'm not my parents." Is that what people assumed of him? Maybe he was wrong about mudbloods, no that can't be right. "That's true." Neville commented.
Snape entered the room, and to his confusion saw Longbottom with the Slytherins. "Okay, thank you." Well, there goes his favorite target. If Draco liked him, he would tolerate this weirdness. Too bad Potter wasn't here to torment.
Snape saw Draco partner with Dursley as Granger partnered with Neville. Two pairs of Slytherin and Gryffindor partners. It was a weird day for sure.
It only got weirder when Draco stayed after class. "Sir, can I ask you something?" "Yes, anything." "Can mudbloods steal magic?" Snape cast a secure locking charm with a silencing spell. "No, they cannot. That is a myth." "Where did it come from?" "I don't know for sure, but I suspect it may mirror Dursley's situation." Draco looked conflicted. "Is it okay if I don't follow my parents' footsteps?" Snape looked in Draco's silver eyes, "Draco, we make our own choices."
