"Edmund, you look so cold! Come and sit with me!" It was freezing and Edmund didn't have a coat, and this lady's sleigh did look so inviting. She looked harsh, but her voice was deceivingly kind. Edmund's desire for warmth and company won. He climbed up beside the lady dressed in white.

She wrapped her thick fur robe around him. It seemed to never end. She kept wrapping it around and around Edmund's body. His head was covered; he was being smothered. His air was cut off; he couldn't breathe!

Edmund woke up with a start. He shook his head to clear the nightmare. The memories were still strong, even though he wasn't in Narnia anymore. He had these dreams sometimes, when the guilt of his treachery was laying heavy upon him. He could never get back to sleep after he woke up from a nightmare like that.

On one such night, Edmund threw off the covers and slipped out of bed. "Ed?" Peter whispered from his bed on the other side of the room. "What are you doing?"

Drat. "Sorry, Pete," Edmund whispered back. "I was trying to be quiet. Go back to sleep."

"But why are you up?" Peter asked.

Edmund sighed. "I can't sleep. I keep having dreams about—her."

"The White Witch?"

"Yeah."

"Edmund, who's more powerful—the White Witch or Aslan?"

"Aslan."

"Who defeated the White Witch through the Deeper Magic?"

"Aslan."

"And who absolved your treachery by sacrificing himself?"

"Aslan." Edmund wondered where Peter was going with all these questions.

"If Aslan chose to save you when you were a traitor, don't you think his love for you is stronger than your guilt? Just remind yourself of that when you have bad dreams."

Peter's advice proved to be invaluable to Edmund. When the nightmares returned, he remembered every word his brother had said. He thought about what Aslan had done for him when he was unworthy. He allowed himself to relive the memories of Aslan trading his own life for Edmund's.

Soon, the White Witch wasn't appearing in Edmund's dreams as much. Her cold, stark white face was replaced by the face of a lion with a thick, golden mane and kind eyes.
