The next morning arrived, it is quiet and peaceful in Encanto, breakfast is ready and being set up outside, Abuela Alma Madrigal is speaking, "Family, we are thankful for Antonio new gift. Today, we must serve the community to keep the miracle burning and..."

Julietta speaks up, "Mom, Mirabel isn't here yet, shouldn't someone wake her up for breakfast."

Isabela scoffs, "She's probably trying to sleep off a hangover. Besides, if she misses breakfast, that is her own fault."

Julietta looks at her oldest daughter, "Isabela Marie Madrigal, your sister was not drunk last night. She was perfectly coherent and balanced. I don't know what happened, but whatever it was, was not caused by alchol consumption. Now get up and go wake up your sister."

Isabela looks at her, "Why should I go and get her? Besides, she..."

Julietta glares at her, "Because she is your sister, because I said so, and because it is time you started acting like a big sister who actually cares about Mirabel like I know you do, rather than someone who just wants to brush her off to the side. Now go, the longer you take, the longer it will take to eat breakfast, the later that we start our chores."

Isabela huffs, "Fine." She gets up and marches toward the nursery and knocks on the door, "Mirabel, time to get up. Breakfast." She gets no answer and she frowns and knocks on the door harder, "Mirabel, get up, you are making everyone wait!" She gets no answer and sighs, "If I have to come in there..." She yanks open the door, and marches in "You had better be in bed sick otherwise..." She sees the bed is empty and sees the note. She opens it and quickly reads it, "No. NO! Momma!" She calls out

Julieta hears her and rushes toward the room, expecting to see Mirabel sick, and instead, finds the room empty and sees Isabela shaking and on the verge of tears as she is holding the paper. She takes the paper from her, she quickly reads it and rushes back to the table, "Mirabel's run off, Dolores, can you hear her?"

Dolores tries to listen, "No, I can't...she...she may just be being super quiet, but..."

Alma speaks up, "She is doing this for attention and we will not be indulging her behavior. She'll come home at lunch time and when she does come home, she'll get a lecture and can go to bed without supper to think about what she has done. Besides, there's no way that she could have gotten out of Encanto."

Julieta looks at her mom, "Mama, this isn't like when Bruno ran off. Bruno was a 40 year old man, Mirabel is just a 15 year old girl. She is a child, she has no idea of the dangers of the world or how to defend herself."

Alma looks at her, "She's heard enough about what happen to her albelo to know of the dangers of this world. If she has disregarded it, then that is her own choice. Besides, she should have been sent to live with Auguistin's parents or another family in Encanto years ago."

Julieta frowns, "I can't believe you. I, she is your youngest granddaughter. You used to adore her, how can you disregard her now?"

Isabela shakes her head, "Because Mirabel isn't even a real Madrigal in the first place."

Juleita frowns at her oldest, "You were six Isabela, how can you believe that? You were in this house she was born, you saw her when she was just a few hours old."

Isabela sighs, "Yes, you gave birth to her, but Albeula said that the reason that she didn't get a gift is because she wasn't a real Madrigal, but a bastard."

Julieta feels anger. Thunder can be heard as Pepa has a cloud, angered for the insult directed toward her sister, both by her own mother and oldest niece who has clearly been corrupted by her mother to believe that Mirabel is a bastard or something like that.

Isabela continues, "It has to be true isn't it? Abuela wouldn't say it if it was otherwise. Now, I know that this is a big family secret to avoid more of a scandle than she already is by not having a gift, but now, she's run off and we don't have to worry about the stain on our family anymore."

Suddenly a fist slams down on the table, breaking it in half and Luisa is breathing heavily, "ENOUGH!" She looks at Isabela, "Enough. What's happened to you? I know you aren't this cold heartless bitch that you are pretending to be. I even know that you don't even believe what you are saying to be true. Stop...please, just stop. Start being you again."

Isabela looks at her, "THis is me. This is me, being me."

Dolores speaks up with a squeak, "No, it's not. I can hear your heart racing when you were insulting Mirabel or even when you claim that you are being yourself. You can fix your features to lie, but you can't stop your heart rate from changing when you lie. Who are you trying to lie to though, us or yourself?"

Isabela gets up and storms out of the room, "Mirabel always only cared about herself anyway." She says, saying another lie that she is once again, telling herself and she marches on up to her room. She jumps into her bed, buries her face in her pillow and begins crying, thinking of her baby sister, who was born so tiny and sick due to being born early. How weak Mirabel was as a little girl, how many times she could have died. She thinks of her now, seeing that same little girl who used to follow her around all the time, who wanted to be just like her, alone in the world, hungry, frightened, lost. She whispers to herself, "What do I do? What do I do?"

The rest of the family has read the letter, Antonio had burst into tears, Luisa says that she is going out there and finding her sister. Dolores stands up, suggesting that they go to different parts of the village. Pepa is trying to calm down, to keep from flooding the village. She never realized how much Mirabel cared about everyone, until she read the letter. She realizes that Mirabel saw the pain that the gifts were bringing down on all of them. Camilo says that he'll stay with Antonio to comfort him and keep him calm.

Alma speaks up, disregarding it, "I said once again, this is just a cry for attention, leave it be. She'll come home soon, besides, there's no way that she could have left Encanto anyway."

Augustin has to drag Julieta out of there, because Julieta looked like she was seconds away from grabbing her mother and strangling her.

Most of the family go to search for Mirabel, Camilo and Antonio go to Antonio's room. Alma stays at the house, she is planning on saying I told you so as soon as Mirabel comes into the house hungry for lunch.

Isabela had finished crying and comes out of her room, she glares up at the candle, "YOU! You are the reason that I am stuck being perfect all the time. You are the reason that I am going to be forced to marry a man that I do not love. You are the reason that Abuela puts so much pressure on us all. You are the reason that my baby sister felt like she was less than all of us and has now run away and is alone in the world. It is all because of you. Take it back! TAKE IT! I DON'T WANT IT! GIVE ME BACK MY SISTER! TAKE MY GIFT AWAY FROM ME AND GIVE ME BACK MY SISTER!" She screams in frustration and suddenly all kinds of plants grow.

Alma sees the crazy plants, unorganized and everything, she sighs and rubs her head, "Even when she isn't in the house, that girl is causing problems for me."

Isabela stares at the plants, any other time, she'd be happy at seeing this, something unexpected, new, different, interesting. Something that wasn't perfect, something that is beautiful because of its imperfections. Something that she feels, only she looks down, she can't feel anything but sad. This is what it took for her powers to grow like the grapes that thrive on the vine, "IF LOSING MY SISTER WAS THE TRADE OFF FOR MY POWERS TO GROW! IF THIS IS WHAT IT TOOK, THEN NO! NO! I'LL GROW NOTHING BUT ROSES FOREVER UNTIL MIRABEL RETURNS! I WON'T ACCEPT THAT MY SISTER BEING GONE IS THE REASON FOR MY POWER GROWTH! NO!" She yells at the candle and summons a vine and wraps it around the candle to yank it off the window in anger. She feels the sudden backlash and screams in pain as the magic attacks her for attacking it and burns her.

Alma rushes up, in shock at what Isabela just did and tried to do and calls for Dolores, "Dolores, get Luisa and Julieta back here now. Isabela's hurt."

Isabela has blacked out from the pain.
